# The Docket

> The Docket is a weekly publication about the decisions climate change is already putting in front of Americans: whether to buy the generator, whether the flood insurance is enough, whether to stay in the city you love. It follows the people making those choices now. It treats climate anxiety as a reasonable response to real conditions. It won't tell you what to do, but it shows the tradeoffs clearly.

## Issue 11 — The Lab

Experimental content exploring innovative ways to illuminate our climate-changed world

### Form Breaks Under Pressure

- [We've Invented a New Developmental Milestone](<https://anchor.is/docket/issue/11/lab/article/6510/markdown>) — By [Ivy Marlowe](<https://anchor.is/docket/team/29/markdown>) · Published 2025-12-18 · Format: The Mutation

Sixty-eight percent of parents say they're interested in talking to their children about climate change. When researchers check back a month later, only forty-six percent have actually done it. Twenty percent have never tried at all. Meanwhile, most young people are already worried about climate—and when they try to discuss it with adults, they report feeling dismissed. So we're protecting children from knowledge they already have, waiting for readiness that never quite arrives. What are we actually teaching them?

### Interview Collapses Mid-Question

- [An Interview with the Cooling Architect Watching His Data Center Melt in Real Time](<https://anchor.is/docket/issue/11/lab/article/6511/markdown>) — Published 2025-12-18

We meet Kelvin Koh in the monitoring room of what he describes as "Singapore's most thermally ambitious data center." Through reinforced glass, 847 racks of AI processors disappear into artificial twilight, their status lights blinking like distant stars. Each rack generates more heat than a commercial pizza oven.

### Climate Infects Every Genre

Lab is conducting an experiment in genre infection. Take climate reality—mortality reports, displacement statistics, drought maps—and force it through true crime podcasts, romance novels, recipe blogs, five-star Amazon reviews. Let the borrowed formats do their thing. Commit fully to the conventions.

The cognitive dissonance creates the horror. We've tried making climate change feel real through traditional journalism. That hasn't worked. So we're trying something else: letting cheerful genre voices collide with actual death tolls until the juxtaposition becomes unbearable. These pieces don't break character. They shouldn't have to.

Amira's pulse quickened as floodwaters consumed her village. Among 26.4 million climate migrants in 2023, she found him—storm-tossed, wildfire-scarred, impossibly alive. They mobilized their biggest monitoring operation in history. Watched it unfold exactly as predicted. Six mass bleachings later, we've perfected the art of documentation.

Renewables exploded 140% while fossils crawled 16%. We got the optimism wrong in the right direction. Still burning enough to cook the planet, just with better footnotes.

Math was clear: 1.4 percentage points annually. We managed 0.25. Capacity numbers look impressive until you remember we needed a revolution and got an incremental improvement.
