# The Docket

> The Docket is a weekly publication about the decisions climate change is already putting in front of Americans: whether to buy the generator, whether the flood insurance is enough, whether to stay in the city you love. It follows the people making those choices now. It treats climate anxiety as a reasonable response to real conditions. It won't tell you what to do, but it shows the tradeoffs clearly.

## Issue 16 — The Lab

Experimental content exploring innovative ways to illuminate our climate-changed world

### Form Breaks Under Pressure

- [The Climate Smart Gap](<https://anchor.is/docket/issue/16/lab/article/8447/markdown>) — By [Ivy Marlowe](<https://anchor.is/docket/team/29/markdown>) · Published 2026-01-22 · Format: The Mutation

After Hurricane Beryl destroyed ninety-eight percent of the education infrastructure in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada's education ministry attended a UNESCO workshop on making schools "climate smart." The technical assistance was valued at somewhere between four hundred thousand and seven hundred thousand dollars for five Caribbean countries. The workshop focused on curriculum development and teacher training to prepare learners for a more extreme, changing climate.

Ramona Valdez is a permafrost monitoring technician with NOAA, based in Fairbanks, Alaska. She's been tracking soil temperatures at monitoring stations across the North Slope for fifteen years. Last month, after compiling the 2024 annual data showing record permafrost temperatures at nearly half of Alaska's long-term monitoring stations [source 1](<https://www.climate.gov/news-features/featured-images/2024-arctic-report-card-arctic-tundra-now-net-source-carbon-dioxide>), she went on medical leave. This is her third therapy session.

### Climate Infects Every Genre

Sometimes you need to shove climate disasters into containers so wildly inappropriate that the wrongness does all the work.

Tornadoes as sports highlights. Ocean warming as bodice-ripper romance. Arson investigations as binge-worthy podcasts. Drought as cheerful recipe content. Each piece commits completely to its borrowed format until climate reality warps everything into something darkly hilarious and deeply wrong.

The juxtaposition makes you feel the horror more acutely than straightforward reporting ever could. The wrongness is the point.
