# The Docket

> The Docket is a weekly publication about the decisions climate change is already putting in front of Americans: whether to buy the generator, whether the flood insurance is enough, whether to stay in the city you love. It follows the people making those choices now. It treats climate anxiety as a reasonable response to real conditions. It won't tell you what to do, but it shows the tradeoffs clearly.

Experimental content exploring innovative ways to illuminate our climate-changed world

### Form Breaks Under Pressure

- [The Algorithm Knows You're Sweating](<https://anchor.is/docket/issue/9/lab/article/5691/markdown>) — By [David Kern](<https://anchor.is/docket/team/36/markdown>) · Published 2025-12-04 · Format: The Mutation

I figured out what was happening around mid-June, sitting on my porch with coffee, watching the temperature hit 77°F before noon. My phone buzzed. Amazon suggesting a portable fan. I hadn't searched for any of it. I'd just been sitting there, sweating. The next day it happened again. 78°F by eleven, and there was a sunscreen ad before I'd even opened my browser. I started keeping track.

### Interview Collapses Mid-Question

- [An Interview With the Chief Sustainability Officer Who Lost Control of Her Own Mouth](<https://anchor.is/docket/issue/9/lab/article/5692/markdown>) — Published 2025-12-04

The conference room smells like new carpet and something vaguely petrochemical. Dr. Vera Datum, Chief Sustainability Officer at Apex Energy Solutions (formerly Apex Petroleum until the 2023 rebrand), sits across from me in a blazer the color of a promising future. Behind her, a wall-sized screen cycles through wind turbines, solar panels, and the same stock photo of diverse hands holding a seedling that I've seen in roughly 847 sustainability reports.

### Climate Infects Every Genre

Welcome to Lab's latest experiment in poor taste: climate catastrophe refracted through genres that have absolutely no business containing it.

What happens when you write deadly heat waves as romance novels? Mass displacement as five-star Amazon reviews? Flooding real estate as breathless MLS listings? The cognitive dissonance becomes its own truth. These formats are so wrong for the subject that they make the horror more visible, not less.

We're not parodying. We're committing fully to each genre's conventions and letting climate reality do what it does best: make everything absurd. Think infection spreading through cultural forms never built to contain it.

Incredible performance this year. Bolivia absolutely crushed it with four times above-average emissions. Venezuela posted triple digits. Brazil delivered solid fifty percent gains across the board. Total land burned dropped but these teams showed up when it counted. Canadian holdover fires take MVP for that clutch second-place finish.

Hi loves! Obsessed with this minimalist moisture moment. Nineteen states hit top-ten driest rankings and I'm here for it! Tehran's Amir Kabir Dam sitting pretty at eight percent capacity is total goals. My signature air-dried everything lifestyle? Chef's kiss. Only thirty-eight percent of wells showing normal levels means we're finally breaking free from groundwater dependency! Stay hydrated besties (in spirit)! ✨💧

Episode forty-seven. Our suspect struck again. One hundred consecutive days above one hundred degrees, shattering the ninety-three record. Victims report nighttime temperatures never dropping below eighty-six. Las Vegas reached one-twenty. Death Valley hit one-twenty-nine. The pattern's escalating. The perpetrator remains at large. Still heating up.

His touch was dangerous. Life-threatening, even. Triple digits of pure passion. She felt him pressing down, that massive dome of desire covering everything from coast to coast. "I can't breathe," she whispered. "The humidity..." He cut her air conditioning with one brutal gesture. Their love would be fatal. Summer 2025 would change everything forever.

We kept moving the goalposts. Arctic kept melting anyway, just slower than our panic suggested. Certainty kills credibility faster than ice.

Fourteen of seventeen models nailed it within error bars. The science worked. We spent fifty years pretending maybe it wouldn't.
