The 100 List — Lesser-Known Companies Worth a Trigger

September 2026 refresh of the dormant watchlist (first published Issue #7). Thirty-one entries rotated out since then — upgraded to Act/Watch, dropped below threshold, or got acquired. Replacements follow the same screening logic: company rubric score strong enough that one signal pushes it to Watch or Act. Every entry here is Ignore-until-trigger. None warrant outreach today.

Use this reactively

A recruiter mentions a name, a funding headline lands, someone posts "we're hiring" — find the entry, check whether the trigger fired, route to the correct Tier Playbook. Portfolio match is pre-mapped. You skip the 2-hour research phase.

Companies with active qualifying signals this cycle were excluded. Glean, EvenUp, BuildOps, Perplexity, and Dataiku all have live postings — those belong in the Priority Action Queue.

1. Agent Platforms and Orchestration

Users hand work to agents and get back results with no legibility — what the agent did, why it chose that path, whether the output is safe to act on. Lead with the human-agent system design artifacts and the Trust essay's five handoffs. TinyFish work on agent traces and governance gives you practitioner credibility that concept artifacts alone don't carry.

Mistral AI. Frontier models, Le Chat assistant, and enterprise deployment — European sovereignty and open-weight licensing as differentiators.

- Portfolio match: The most extreme trust surface in AI: a voice agent talking to patients about health. The Trust essay's five handoffs framework was built for this — when should the agent escalate, how does the patient know they're talking to AI, what does the clinician see when reviewing the conversation? Thermo Fisher proves regulated-domain delivery. That combination — trust architecture for autonomous outputs plus regulated shipping — is rare in a single candidate.
- Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Any product design posting at Staff+ level. Monitor monthly.
OpenEvidence. Evidence-backed medical search and clinical decision support for verified clinicians.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series D, $700M raised; 11–50 employees (LinkedIn — likely understated).

- Portfolio match: Continuous monitoring — patients and clinicians need shared surfaces for metabolic data and intervention triggers. Thermo Fisher mySupply (continuous supply chain monitoring, 100% adoption, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) parallels sustained engagement in a regulated context.
- Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff+ product design posting or AI-centrality upgrade. Monitor quarterly.

4. Governed Automation in Medical Back-Office

AI automates coding, claims, or chart review, but regulatory liability stays with the human. Design must make exception handling efficient without hiding the automation's reasoning. Thermo Fisher and Red Cross lead here. Forward-looking artifacts on output review patterns apply across most entries.

Pomelo Care. Virtual maternity and women's health care with continuous risk monitoring.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$140M raised; 200–500 employees.

Things to follow up on...

Glean's live Head of Design posting: This was excluded from the dormant list because it has an active posting on Greenhouse — score it against the full rubric for the Priority Action Queue.
Decagon's team-building pattern: A current Senior Product Designer posting at a company valued at $4.5B after its March 2026 tender fits the IC-cluster pattern that historically precedes a leadership search by 4–8 weeks.
Legora's geographic constraint: The company hit a $5.6B valuation in April and has a live Staff Product Designer role, but it's London-only — worth checking quarterly for a US-based posting given the New York office presence.
Norm AI at 50–200 employees: At this headcount with $120M in fresh capital, the first senior design hire would shape the entire product surface — monitor biweekly for any design posting.
