October 3, 2026
Sixteen roles on the board. Five are new: Databricks, Shield AI, two ServiceNow seats, Comfy. Three of them carry gates: a values decision at Shield AI, missing code-contribution evidence at Databricks, an unknown reporting line at Comfy. Figma and Webflow are the two Acts with nothing in front of them. Glean is excluded this cycle and Luxury Presence retires on a corrected age; both below.
Cluster 1 — New This Cycle
Five roles surfaced for the first time. Databricks, Shield AI, and Comfy score highest, and each needs something resolved before outreach is worth writing. ServiceNow is a Watch with real craft depth and no equity upside worth planning around.
1. Databricks. Enterprise data and AI platform: lakehouse architecture, model serving, and agentic coding tools.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, Agentic Coding
- Posting date / age: September 29, 2026 (4 days). Per secondary index; the ATS does not expose an original date.
- Source: Databricks careers
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (~$190B valuation), ~7,000 employees, $5B raised August 2026.
- Offices: San Francisco HQ.
- Value chain: Midstream platform between cloud infrastructure and enterprise data teams. Design owns the developer-to-analyst surface.
- Best at: The unified lakehouse that collapsed the data warehouse and data lake divide.
- Why now: Databricks shipped Omnigent in June, a control layer for composing and running fleets of agents. The managed Omnigent beta was documented September 28, one day before this role posted. Sourced from company blog and documentation.
- Signals: Aggressive AI-native feature shipping since the MosaicML acquisition. No recent design leadership changes.
- Tier: AI-native platform. Tier Playbook: read the AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 1, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Carrier IQ — the design problem here is a developer watching an agent write code and deciding mid-flow whether to trust it or take the keyboard back, which is the same shape as a user inspecting agent-generated work before authorizing it inside a regulated process. Juno built and shipped that approval surface, then published the argument for why the approval moment is the product. Strong AI design candidates usually have the supervision concept. Fewer have a live artifact plus the written framework behind it.
- Verdict: Act (gated). Gate: code-contribution evidence. The posting asks for a builder-designer who can make small changes in the codebase. Assemble examples of working inside engineering-adjacent surfaces, then route to the Opportunity Brief.
- Evidence-readiness: Carrier IQ match ready. Code-contribution evidence not prepared. No outreach angle or talking points yet.
- Databricks routing note: The Opportunity Brief owns the full engagement package. This entry carries score, gate, and next move only.
2. Shield AI. Autonomous systems for defense: AI pilots for military aircraft operating where GPS is unavailable.
- Role: Head of Product Design
- Posting date / age: September 26, 2026 (7 days). Per Lever posting.
- Source: Lever
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series G, ~$12.7B valuation), ~500–800 employees, $2B raised March 2026.
- Offices: San Diego HQ, San Mateo, Washington D.C. San Mateo is confirmed as an onsite option with a listed range of $280,000–$420,000.
- Value chain: Downstream application, AI applied to defense operations. Design scope includes operator interfaces where decisions carry lethal consequences.
- Best at: Autonomous flight in contested, GPS-denied environments.
- Why now: This is a first Head of Product Design, so the hire builds the function rather than inheriting it. The posting names trust, transparency, explainability, and human oversight directly. Sourced from posting language and March financing coverage.
- Signals: $2B capital transaction in March at $12.7B valuation. Acquired geospatial simulation company Aechelon Technology in June.
- Tier: AI-native / Regulated. Tier Playbook: read both before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 1, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role 15/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher (BCG DV) — the problem is explainability before an irreversible action, and the exception-first triage pattern is the structural match: 197 orders, surface the three where a miss has operational consequence. Red Cross (BCG DV) supplies the second proof, a system built where failure lands on people and compliance is a constraint rather than a preference. Most strong AI design candidates bring consumer AI. Regulated high-stakes exception surfaces are rarer.
- Verdict: Act (gated). Gate: your own decision about defense work. If the answer is yes, lead with Thermo Fisher and Red Cross. If no, skip and reclaim the hours.
- Evidence-readiness: Thermo Fisher and Red Cross matches ready. Mission decision outstanding. No outreach angle prepared.
3. ServiceNow. Enterprise workflow automation across IT, HR, customer service, and security. Two Sr Staff IC roles posted together.
- Role A: Sr Staff Product Designer, Mobile Experience Strategy & Systems
- Role B: Sr Staff Product & Visual Designer, Technology Workflows
- Posting date / age: September 25–26, 2026 (7–8 days). Per ATS observation; original dates may be earlier.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (~$180B market cap), ~23,000 employees.
- Offices: Santa Clara HQ.
- Value chain: Midstream enterprise platform. Two simultaneous Sr Staff postings point to design investment, most likely tied to Now Assist.
- Best at: Workflow automation at enterprise scale. The category incumbent.
- Why now: Two Sr Staff IC seats at once is an org-level investment signal. Q2 2026 subscription revenue of $3.877B, up 24.5% YoY; AI products passed $1B in annual contract value. Sourced from company financial disclosure.
- Signals: AI product revenue crossing $1B ACV is a real adoption marker, not a press-release number.
- Tier: Enterprise platform.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 1, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role A 13/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI 2, Portfolio 2). Role B 10/15 (Comp 3, Scope 2, Craft 2, AI 2, Portfolio 1).
- Portfolio match (Role A, Mobile): Alibaba — compressing full procurement workflows onto constrained surfaces for buyers who had been running on consumer-grade UX. 25M+ desktop sessions redesigned, +7% DAU and +20% transactions at $50B+ GMV.
- Portfolio match (Role B, Tech Workflows): Allē (BCG DV) — visual coherence held across provider and consumer surfaces carrying very different information densities, which is the actual difficulty in a multi-workflow visual system.
- Verdict: Watch. Craft depth is there, equity is not. Apply if your Act targets are already in motion and you want a stable Sr Staff seat with strong cash.
- Evidence-readiness: Alibaba and Allē ready. No outreach angle or talking points.
4. Comfy. Open-source node-based AI image and video generation workflow tool, ComfyUI.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, Developer Platform
- Posting date / age: Approximately September 24, 2026 (9 days). Per secondary index; the ATS does not expose an original date.
- Source: Ashby
- Stage / Size / Capital: 11–50 stated company size (100 LinkedIn-associated profiles), $30M raised April 2026 at $500M valuation, ~$47–48M total. The company's own materials differ by $1M.
- Offices: Not confirmed. Verify SF or remote eligibility.
- Value chain: Midstream tooling between AI models and creative end-users. The open-source standard for node-based AI creative production.
- Best at: Node-based visual workflow for AI creative production.
- Why now: The posting says the hire owns the Developer Platform surface end to end, "without a design manager over your shoulder." No Director+, Head of Design, or VP Design is publicly identifiable. Sourced from company page and posting language. Read that two ways: design has no voice above this seat, or this seat defines the function. Which one it is depends on the reporting line, and the reporting line is not public.
- Signals: Rapid growth in open-source AI creative tooling. No design leadership visible in the public org.
- Tier: AI-native. Tier Playbook: read the AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design 1, Trajectory 3). Design influence scored 1 on absent leadership; it would be 3 if this hire defines the function. Role 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Agentic Labs — Brand Pulse, Carrier IQ, and Retail Velocity are end-to-end product ownership from concept to live deployment, built solo, which is the working mode the posting describes. Many candidates can claim that mode. Juno can link to three running products.
- Verdict: Act (gated). Two gates: geographic eligibility, and whether the missing design leadership is a ceiling or an opening. Both resolve in one conversation about reporting structure and location.
- Evidence-readiness: Agentic Labs ready. Reporting structure and geography unverified. No outreach angle.
Cluster 2 — Still Live and Ready to Engage
Figma is the strongest Director-level seat on the board and the package is written. Webflow's Opportunity Brief is ready to run. Handshake is a confirmed five-role design cluster with no Director+ posting, and the routing question is still open.
5. Figma. Collaborative design tool platform, hiring into AI & Context.
- Role: Director, Product Design — AI & Context
- Posting date / age: Approximately September 23, 2026 (11 days). Per secondary index; Greenhouse does not expose an original date.
- Source: Greenhouse
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series E, ~$20B valuation), ~1,500 employees. SF HQ.
- Value chain: Midstream design tooling. Director-level with strategic scope over the AI feature layer.
- Best at: Real-time collaborative design. The industry standard.
- Why now: Figma is building its AI feature layer and this role owns direction, not execution. Q2 2026 revenue of $370M, up 48% YoY; the 10-Q describes material investment and cost risk associated with AI integrations. Sourced from the SEC filing.
- Signals: AI features shipping. The Director posting marks the next phase of investment.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform. Tier Playbook: Growth-stage.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design 3, Trajectory 2). Role 13/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI 2, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Brand Pulse — contextual AI assistance in a creative tool turns on when the system should surface something and how the user keeps authority over the output. Brand Pulse is an agentic product where every mention is scored as it lands and the design question is what reaches the human and when. Lead with Brand Pulse for the oversight thinking, Alibaba for enterprise-scale leadership proof.
- Verdict: Act. Apply and route through design leadership.
- Evidence-readiness: Brand Pulse and Alibaba ready. Outreach angle prepared in a prior cycle.
6. Webflow. No-code website builder and CMS, now hiring for agentic content management.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, Agentic CMS
- Posting date / age: Approximately September 19, 2026 (15 days). Per board observation; Greenhouse does not expose an original date.
- Source: Greenhouse
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series C, ~$4B valuation), ~1,000 employees. SF HQ.
- Value chain: Midstream web publishing. The CMS layer is where agents author and publish under governance.
- Best at: Visual web development without code.
- Why now: The role title describes agent-authored content with a governance layer around it. Opportunity Brief ready.
- Signals: The Agentic CMS title indicates a new product surface under construction.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design 2, Trajectory 2). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Red Cross (BCG DV) — governed publication means content models, approval paths, permissions, rollback, and the moment a human accepts or overrides agent-authored content before it goes live. Six legacy systems into one, three roles sharing a record for the first time, FEMA audit trails built in; the governance path was the design work. Most AI design candidates have designed single-user approval. A multi-role publication chain is a different problem, and she has shipped one.
- Verdict: Act. Apply using the existing Opportunity Brief. Route through Kevin Wong. Lead with Red Cross governance architecture.
- Evidence-readiness: Full engagement package ready.
7–9. Handshake. Career platform connecting college students with employers, with three Staff Product Designer roles across different surfaces.
Resolve the routing before you write anything. The prior Signal Watch named Gabe Schindler and May-Li Khoe. The Handshake AI brief found no public design executive and routed through Vee Sahgal on the product side. Confirm which is right first. Reaching the product leader before the design leader on a design role risks positioning you as a product-org candidate.
- Posting dates / ages: AR and SE first observed Sept 19 (15 days); AI first observed Sept 26 (8 days). Actual posting dates may be earlier.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series F, ~$3.5B valuation), ~1,000 employees. SF HQ.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform / AI-adjacent.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Roles 11–12/15 each.
The three differ by authority model:
- Handshake AI (internal AI tasking). Exception-first internal workflow. Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher (BCG DV) triage, 197 orders, surface the three that matter. Brief ready. Verdict: Watch, pending the reporting line named in the brief.
- Autonomous Recruiting (employer-side delegation). The agent acts on the employer's behalf. Portfolio match: the Trust essay's return conditions, the moments an agent must come back before proceeding. Verdict: Act. Brief needs writing.
- Student Experience (student-side recommendation). The agent recommends, the student decides. Portfolio match: Carrier IQ's approval gate. Brief ready. Verdict: Act.
Cluster signal: Confirmed five-role design cluster, the three Staff seats above plus Staff Growth and Senior II. No Director+ design posting as of Oct 3. A Design Program Manager posted Sept 27 covers design ops, not leadership. Under the IC Cluster Rule, watch for a leadership posting in 6–12 weeks.
- Evidence-readiness: Briefs ready for AI and Student Experience. Autonomous Recruiting needs one. Routing contact unresolved.
Monitoring, two Watches without urgency triggers:
- F2 (Staff Product Designer). YC-backed AI platform for private-market underwriting and diligence, ~15 people, Seed ($14M, June 2026). The posting calls this "an early designer," though it is not the first. Comp $220,000–$250,000 plus bonus and equity. Company 8/12, Role 11/15. Portfolio match: Carrier IQ for regulated document automation in a financial context, Alibaba supporting expert B2B decision workflows. Watch. Upgrade trigger: Series A announcement.
- Scale AI (Staff Product Designer, Enterprise). AI data platform, Pre-IPO (Series F, ~$14B valuation), ~1,000+ employees, SF. Approximately September 9, 2026 (24 days) per secondary index, which puts it in the verification window. Company 9/12, Role 11/15. Portfolio match: Alibaba's enterprise B2B redesign at scale. Watch, and confirm the slate is still open before spending outreach time. Case study ready, no angle prepared.
Cluster 3 — Gated With Named Gate and Resolution Path
Both of these have an obstacle that outreach would hit in the first exchange. Clear the gate before you build the positioning, or the positioning is wasted.
10. Deepgram. Speech AI platform: speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice agent infrastructure.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, Conversational AI
- Posting date / age: Approximately September 19, 2026 (14 days). Per board observation; the ATS does not expose an original date.
- Source: Ashby
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series C, ~$1.3B valuation), ~200 employees, $130M raised January 2026. SF / remote.
- Value chain: Upstream speech infrastructure. The Conversational AI title points to a product layer being built on top of the models.
- Best at: Low-latency speech recognition.
- Why now: Voice agents are an expanding product category and Deepgram appears to be building the surface above its own infrastructure. Inferred from the posting title and scope; no company announcement found.
- Tier: AI-native.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 3, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 1). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 1).
- Portfolio match: Weak. The design problem is conversational repair and turn-taking — how a voice agent recovers from a misunderstanding without any visual affordance to lean on. The Trust essay's work on prediction mismatch is conceptually relevant, but there is no shipped voice-agent artifact behind it.
- Verdict: Watch (gated). Gate: production voice-agent domain experience, which is a qualification boundary rather than a portfolio gap. Resolution path: ask directly whether shipped voice work is required or whether adjacent AI and trust-architecture work clears the bar. Do not apply cold.
- Evidence-readiness: Trust essay ready as conceptual match only. No outreach contact identified.
11. Airwallex. Global payments and financial infrastructure, hiring into agentic finance.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, Agentic Finance
- Posting date / age: Approximately September 15, 2026 (18 days). Verified live Oct 3 at the direct URL, but absent from Airwallex's org-level Ashby feed.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series E, ~$11B valuation), ~1,500 employees, $320M raised June 2026.
- Offices: Melbourne HQ with SF and other global offices. Geographic eligibility unverified.
- Value chain: Midstream financial infrastructure. Agentic Finance suggests AI-driven payment automation.
- Best at: Cross-border payments infrastructure.
- Why now: T:0, the company's agentic finance product covering payments, payroll, bookkeeping, and tax, launched publicly September 1. Sourced from company disclosure. Treat the feed anomaly as a caution rather than a disqualifier: the page loads at its direct URL but does not appear on the public board, which could mean pulled, referral-only, or a feed artifact.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform / Fintech.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Carrier IQ's approval gate in a regulated financial context. Writing it out further is premature while the posting status is unclear.
- Verdict: Watch (gated). Two gates: posting status and geographic eligibility. Resolution path: submit through the direct URL and see whether it is accepted, or find an Airwallex design recruiter on LinkedIn and confirm the role is open to Bay Area candidates. Nothing else until both clear.
- Evidence-readiness: Both gates open. No outreach contact identified.
Cluster 4 — Needs Verification
One entry. The posting loads; the search does not appear to be running.
Glean — Head of Product Design. Excluded. The Greenhouse posting is live, but the requisition traces to March 2025. An interim Head of Design publicly handed the role to Christian Ervin roughly ten months ago, and current Glean designers identify Ervin as Head of Design. No Glean recruiter or design leader has promoted this search in the last 30 days. A live posting page is not evidence of a live search. Trigger for re-entry: a Glean design leader or recruiter publicly activates it, or Ervin's title changes.
Cluster 5 — Reactivated
Two roles back in the active window on fresh human signal. Both reactivations came from people rather than the ATS, which is the more reliable kind.
12. Nooks. AI-powered sales platform: virtual sales floor, AI dialer, and conversation intelligence.
- Role: Head of Design
- Posting date / age: Original requisition March 11. Founder Dan Lee publicly renewed the search October 1, describing it as the company's first Head of Design. Reactivation signal: 2 days old.
- Source: Ashby
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO (Series B, $43M raised), ~100–200 employees. SF.
- Value chain: Downstream AI sales tooling. First Head of Design means building the function.
- Best at: AI-powered parallel dialing and real-time sales intelligence.
- Why now: The founder is the search sponsor and said so publicly two days ago. That is a substantiated route, not an inferred contact.
- Signals: Founder post October 1. Series B announced October 2025.
- Tier: AI-native.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role 13–15/15 (Comp 1–3, undisclosed; Scope 3, Craft 3, AI 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Brand Pulse — a rep on a live call needs AI-surfaced intelligence filtered to what they can act on without breaking the conversation. Brand Pulse solves the same filtering problem at a different pace: every signal scored on arrival, the system deciding what surfaces and what stays buried. Built solo, running live.
- Verdict: Act (gated on comp). Gate: compensation is undisclosed. Confirm it clears your floor before you build the positioning. Dan Lee is the route.
- Evidence-readiness: Brand Pulse ready. Comp unverified. Outreach route confirmed.
13. Gusto. HR, payroll, and benefits platform for small and mid-sized businesses.
- Role: Staff Product Designer, HR Experiences
- Posting date / age: Present by July 31 per external index. A Gusto design employee promoted the search again in September. Reactivation strength: moderate. Employee promotion establishes renewed attention; it does not confirm a slate reset.
- Source: Greenhouse
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private (~$10B valuation), ~2,500 employees. SF HQ.
- Value chain: Downstream HR and payroll platform. A Staff IC seat inside a mature design org.
- Best at: SMB payroll and HR automation. Category leader at the small end.
- Why now: HR Experiences is where AI-assisted workflows meet employees, and the posting names uncertainty, errors, human experts, compliance constraints, and user agency explicitly. Sourced from posting language.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design 3, Trajectory 2; design influence scored high on the maturity of the org). Role 14/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI 2, Portfolio 3; the listed SF range of $177K–$222K holds comp at 2, and the HR-agent trust surface is highly publishable).
- Portfolio match: The Trust essay plus Red Cross (BCG DV). When an agent handles benefits enrollment or a compliance step for an employee, the design object is the set of return conditions: infeasibility, protected-constraint violation, irreversible consequence, unfamiliar tradeoff. Red Cross supplies the shipped multi-role proof, three roles sharing one record. She has both the framework and the built system; most candidates bring one.
- Verdict: Watch. Good design org, strong publishable surface, moderate reactivation signal from an employee rather than a recruiter or hiring manager. Confirm the slate is open before outreach.
- Evidence-readiness: Trust essay and Red Cross ready. No outreach angle.
Cluster 6 — Retiring With Trigger Conditions
Seven roles off the board. Every one of these pages still loads. Loading does not reset the original posting date or prove anyone is recruiting against it.
- Stripe — Senior Staff Product Designer, Data & AI. Past six weeks. Prior positioning sheets and Opportunity Brief stay on file. Trigger: repost with revised language, or a design leader promotes the search.
- Brex — Staff Product Designer, AI. Past threshold, last updated July 13. Trigger: repost with new language or a new AI product launch.
- Suno — Senior/Staff Product Designer. Past threshold. Trigger: repost or funding announcement.
- Runway — Sr./Staff Product Designer, Developer Platform. Past threshold. Trigger: repost or a new product surface.
- Within — Staff Product Designer. Past threshold, and the employer label now reads "Within DNU" while the org-level feed shows zero jobs. Trigger: the org feed repopulates with design roles.
- Vanta — Head of Design. Past threshold. Trigger: repost or a new design leadership signal.
- Luxury Presence — Head of Product Design. Corrected age: first posted no later than June 23, so 102 days rather than the ~31 previously indexed. Reposted several times with materially unchanged copy. A repost at 102 days with no scope revision means the committee has not learned anything from the failed search. Trigger: the posting reappears with substantively different requirements.
Board Health Note
Sixteen roles across six clusters, retirements included. Two clean Acts (Figma, Webflow), three gated Acts (Databricks, Shield AI, Comfy), one reactivated Act gated on comp (Nooks), seven Watches, two monitoring entries, one exclusion. The pattern from prior cycles holds: AI-native companies keep posting IC clusters without leadership roles. Handshake's five-role cluster with no Director+ posting is the clearest instance on the board, and if a leadership search follows it is 6–12 weeks out.
Juno, priority order this week:
- Figma and Webflow. Packages are written. Apply.
- Shield AI. Make the defense-work decision. Yes makes it the strongest Act here; no gives you back the hours.
- Databricks. Assemble code-contribution evidence, then route to the Opportunity Brief.
- Nooks. Dan Lee is the route. Verify comp first.
- Comfy. One contact, one question: who does this role report to.
Seven retirements, including the Luxury Presence age correction. Within's "DNU" label and empty feed are the strongest closure evidence of the group. Stripe positioning sheets and the Handshake briefs stay on file if triggers fire.
- Handshake's missing leadership seat: Five simultaneous design roles and a new Design Program Manager but no Director+ posting — monitor the Ashby feed for a leadership requisition in the next 6–12 weeks.
- Omnigent's contextual policies as design surface: Databricks published work on session-state governance for agent actions that could expand this role's scope beyond coding supervision into policy visibility and permissions design.
- Airwallex's board-index anomaly: The T:0 agentic finance role loads at its direct Ashby URL but is absent from the org-level feed — confirm whether the role is still publicly active or has moved to referral-only.
- Figma's AI cost exposure: The Q2 2026 10-Q filing describes material investment risk associated with AI integrations, which may shape how aggressively the Director of AI & Context role can invest in new capabilities versus optimizing existing ones.
