The 100 List — Non-Bay Area Active Targets, October 2026

Your Monday morning

Aleph. Staff Product Designer at an AI-native FP&A platform, $280K range with equity, Americas-remote, posted September 21. Co-founder Albert Gozzi is the outreach path. CarrierIQ's approval gate maps to their core design problem: finance leader inspecting AI-generated forecasts before endorsing them to the board. Highest-scoring Act entry this cycle with a confirmed contact. Reach first.

Four more entries carry a named contact and a live signal: Help Scout (Scott Rocher, CPO, confirmed direct manager), Outreach (Prerna Makanawala, publicly promoted this role), Zocdoc (Natalie Phillips-Hamblett, VP Design), and Gusto (Amy Thibodeau, CDO). Reach all of them this week.

What the scan found

Twenty-four companies with verified signals. That's the non-Bay Area inventory with a live Staff+, Director+, or Head-of posting, confirmed Bay Area eligibility, and a signal inside the 42-day decay window. Consistent with what Issue #11 and Issue #13 found: narrow channel. The remaining 76 entries are monitoring companies from the 205-company pool, each with a named trigger condition.

Geographic rulings: ServiceNow (Santa Clara), Adobe (San Jose), Superhuman (SF hub), Handshake (SF hybrid) excluded as Bay Area native. Gusto, Webflow, Vanta, and Apollo GraphQL included under distributed exception — qualifying roles accept Denver, NYC, or US-remote. Airwallex and Nubank included — headquartered outside the Bay Area, hiring into it.

Status changes this cycle

Downgraded to Ignore-until-trigger:

• Headway Senior/Staff Provider — August 14 origin, day 50. Trigger: new Staff+ posting.
• Linear Senior/Staff — April 23 origin despite live page. Trigger: new requisition ID.
• Gusto Finance, HR Experiences, Retirement Staff roles — July or earlier. Trigger: new requisition.
• Superhuman Go Core — April 14 origin, SF hub only. Trigger: new US-remote posting.

Expiring within 7 days:

• Atlassian Rovo & AI Principal — hot band ends ~October 7.
• AlphaSense Director, AI Experience — day 39, expires ~October 7.
• Flex Principal Consumer — day 40, expires ~October 6.

No upgrades this cycle.

1. Agent Supervision and Generative Control

Largest demand family this cycle, and the one where your positioning is sharpest. Each company needs a designer who can make agent behavior legible — the agent writes CMS content, coaches a sales rep mid-call, generates financial forecasts, produces video, or advises a banking customer. Trust essay framework and CarrierIQ provenance chain are the primary proof, but each company's specific failure mode differs.

1. Aleph. AI-native FP&A platform generating financial forecasts and planning models.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series B ($29M), headcount not publicly confirmed.
• Offices: Americas-remote.
• Value chain: Downstream application. AI generates the forecast; the finance team decides whether to present it to the board. Design owns the gap between model confidence and user confidence.
• Best at: AI-generated forecasts that finance teams trust enough to bring to the board. The product surfaces the analyst's judgment call rather than hiding it behind a confidence score.
• Staff Product Designer — posted September 21. $280K range with equity.
• Signals: Series B announced; Staff design role posted same month. Hot.
• Tier: AI-native. Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 14/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3). Comp could move to 3 if equity package confirms strong upside.
• Portfolio match: CarrierIQ's approval gate — insurance agent inspects AI-generated quote context before authorizing a bind — maps to a finance leader inspecting AI-generated forecasts before endorsing them. Same pattern, different stakes language: "bind" becomes "board presentation." Aleph's forecasts aggregate across departments, so the provenance problem is multi-source. Lead with the +20% transaction lift from Alibaba to prove you move metrics on platforms where trust determines conversion.
• Hiring route: Co-founder Albert Gozzi. No separate design executive found. Moderate confidence.
• Verdict: Act — Contact now. Battlecard: Request Company Battlecard before interview.

2. Runway. Generative video and media platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series E ($315M at $5.3B valuation), ~140 employees.
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Vertically integrated — builds the models and the creative tools. Design scope runs from inference parameters to filmmaker-facing controls.
• Best at: Generative video tools built for filmmakers who care about shot composition and temporal coherence, where the creative control surface matches the ambition of the output.
• Sr./Staff Product Designer — posted September 24. $220K–$290K.
• Signals: Posted within 10 days. Hot.
• Tier: AI-native. Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 3, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Runway's core design problem is intent specification — "make this more cinematic" gets interpreted across dozens of parameters the user never sees. The additional constraint is temporal: a 30-second render taking 2 minutes means the cost of misinterpretation is time, and the feedback loop is too slow for conversational correction. Your Intent-Based Interaction artifacts address this directly. Lead with the TinyFish bridge — you shipped intent-based interaction in production and returned to design to formalize the patterns.
• Hiring route: No design decision-maker identified. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Act — Apply and route. Battlecard: Request Company Battlecard before interview.

3. Deepgram. Voice AI platform for conversational intelligence.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series C ($130M at $1.3B valuation).
• Offices: US-remote with SF preference.
• Value chain: Midstream infrastructure — provides the speech-to-text and voice agent layer that other products build on. Design owns developer experience and end-user-facing agent surfaces.
• Best at: Real-time voice processing accuracy at scale.
• Staff Product Designer, Conversational AI — posted September 19. $180K–$240K with equity.
• Signals: Posted within 15 days. Hot.
• Tier: AI-native. Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Voice eliminates the visual trust layer your portfolio is built around — the user never sees a provenance screen or an approval gate. But the Trust essay's five handoffs framework is about delegation structure, not screen layout, and that still holds. The specific Deepgram problem: when does a voice agent surface enough uncertainty that the human takes over, and how does it signal that without interrupting the conversation? Ground this in CarrierIQ's Watch-to-Verify transition as production proof that you've designed the handoff moment.
• Hiring route: Natalie Rutgers, SVP Product (design background). Moderate confidence — domain owner, not confirmed requisition owner.
• Verdict: Act — Apply and route. Battlecard: Request Company Battlecard before interview.

4. Nubank. Digital banking platform serving 100M+ customers across Latin America, now building an AI Private Banker.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: NU), ~$50B market cap, headquartered in São Paulo with Palo Alto office.
• Offices: Palo Alto hybrid.
• Value chain: Vertically integrated — owns the banking stack and the AI layer. The AI Private Banker advises customers on financial decisions through conversational AI. Design owns confidence calibration, transparency, error recovery, and company-wide AI interaction patterns.
• Best at: Scaling consumer financial services to 100M+ customers with a design-led product culture rare among banks.
• Head/Senior Design Manager, AI Private Banker — posted September 21. Equity offered. Leads 6+ product and content designers.
• Signals: Posted 13 days ago. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3). Role 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: The AI Private Banker gives financial advice through conversation, and the design problem is calibrating confidence so the customer trusts the advice enough to act but doesn't over-trust it on high-stakes decisions. The Trust essay's trust ladder (Watch → Verify → Delegate) maps directly to how a customer should relate to an AI financial advisor: watch its suggestions, verify its reasoning on material decisions, delegate routine ones. CarrierIQ's provenance chain proves you've built the inspection layer. Alibaba's +20% transaction lift proves you move metrics on trust-dependent platforms. You've designed both the agent-supervision pattern (Agentic Labs) and the financial-platform trust pattern (Alibaba) — most candidates bring one or the other.
• Hiring route: Rohan Ramanath, GM of AI Core, named partner. Moderate confidence — the role itself is the design leadership seat, so Ramanath is the cross-functional sponsor.
• Verdict: Act — Apply and route. Battlecard: Request Company Battlecard before interview.

5. Webflow. Website builder and CMS platform, now building an agentic CMS.

• Stage / Size / Capital: $335M raised, 900+ employees, 3.5M users.
• Offices: US-remote, 25 countries.
• Value chain: Downstream platform — the CMS is the product surface, and the agent writes or edits content within it. Design owns the content-provenance and publish-confidence problem.
• Best at: Professional-quality web development accessible to non-engineers without the usual fidelity tradeoff.
• Staff Product Designer, Agentic CMS — posted September 18. Reports to Senior Director of Product Design.
• Signals: Posted within 16 days. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: The agentic CMS problem is content provenance — the agent writes or edits, and the site owner needs to understand what changed, why, and whether to publish. CarrierIQ's provenance chain maps directly: substitute "agent-generated content diff" for "agent-generated quote context." Webflow's additional constraint: the content is public-facing, so a bad publish is reputational damage. Lead with Red Cross's 6-systems-to-1 consolidation (BCG DV) as proof you've designed for high-stakes operational surfaces where errors have public consequences.
• Hiring route: Reporting line confirmed (Senior Director of Product Design) but individual not named. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route.

6. Outreach. Sales execution platform with Guide conversational-intelligence product.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage, Seattle-based.
• Offices: US-remote from Seattle.
• Value chain: Downstream application — Guide coaches sales reps during live calls using real-time conversational intelligence. Design owns the timing and intrusiveness of agent intervention.
• Best at: Real-time AI coaching embedded in a live sales conversation without derailing the rep's flow.
• Staff Product Designer — posted within days of cutoff. $150K–$200K OTE.
• Signals: Prerna Makanawala and Ashley Stanton publicly promoted the exact role. Hot.
• Tier: Enterprise platform. Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 13/15 (Comp 1, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Guide surfaces coaching cues during live calls — information arriving continuously that must be presented without overwhelming the primary task. Brand Pulse's visibility patterns (real-time sentiment surfacing) map to the same temporal challenge. You've built real-time agent surfaces in production at TinyFish and designed the visibility patterns at Agentic Labs — few candidates have done both. Comp floor is a concern at $150K–$200K. Verify total comp including equity before investing heavily.
• Hiring route: Prerna Makanawala and Ashley Stanton, both used first-person hiring language. High confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Contact now.

7. Gray Swan AI. AI safety company building evaluation and red-teaming tools.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series A ($40M).
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Midstream tooling — provides the evaluation layer that other companies use to assess model safety before deployment. Design owns evidence presentation under uncertainty.
• Best at: Making AI model safety evaluation rigorous and legible to non-researchers.
• Staff Product Designer — original date September 1 (day 32). $205K–$255K.
• Signals: Feed timestamp refreshed October 2 but no new requisition ID. Original clock holds. Verify.
• Tier: AI-native. Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Gray Swan designs surfaces where humans evaluate whether an AI model is safe to deploy. The Trust essay's principle — "status should be a warranted claim, not a system-owned fact" — is the exact thesis this role needs: showing evaluators what the model did, what it should have done, and how confident the evaluation is. Lead with CarrierIQ's provenance chain as production proof of evidence-layered decision surfaces.
• Hiring route: Meredith McDermott, UX leader. Moderate confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first. Day 32. Confirm the slate is still open.

Monitoring — Ignore-until-trigger:

8. Cohere. Enterprise LLM provider. Trigger: Staff+ product design posting appears. 9. Writer. AI writing platform for enterprises. Trigger: Staff+ product design posting. 10. ElevenLabs. Voice AI and speech synthesis. Trigger: Staff+ product design posting. 11. Stability AI. Open-source generative AI models. Trigger: Staff+ design posting and confirmed funding stability.

2. Financial Decision Surfaces

Five active companies where design wraps around money movement — lending decisions, cross-border payments, accounting automation, billing workflows, remittances. Every screen is a decision surface where the user commits funds. Ramp is the standout: Design Systems Lead with a $280K–$385K band, posted September 30, and the mandate explicitly includes encoding design judgment for both people and agents. Airwallex is the other high-scorer but sits at day 32 and needs verification.

12. Ramp. Corporate spend management platform handling $200B+ in annualized spend across 70,000+ companies.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, NYC-headquartered. Reported $13B+ valuation.
• Offices: NYC and SF hybrid.
• Value chain: Downstream platform — provides the expense management, corporate card, and procurement layer that finance teams operate daily. Design owns the surfaces where spending decisions, approvals, and policy enforcement happen.
• Best at: Speed of product iteration in fintech. Ramp ships features at a pace that larger competitors haven't matched.
• Design Systems Lead — posted September 30. $280K–$385K SF/NY with equity. Leads the design-systems team while remaining hands-on in code, prototyping, technical architecture, agent guidance, AI-assisted generation, and repeatable design-quality evaluations.
• Signals: Posted 3 days ago. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Ramp's Design Systems Lead mandate is about turning design judgment into rules, patterns, and evaluations that both people and agents can use — the system must know when an expense approval screen needs human review versus when the agent can proceed. The Trust essay's delegation framework applies directly at the component level. Alle's dual-surface design systems work (consumer + provider, 30M members, BCG DV) proves you've built systems that maintain quality across surfaces with different user types. The Ramp-specific edge: you've shipped agent-facing systems at TinyFish where the agent consumed design patterns programmatically, and you've formalized those patterns in the Trust essay. Most design-systems candidates have built for humans only.
• Hiring route: Diego Zaks, VP of Design. Moderate confidence — org owner, not confirmed requisition owner. Note: posting is housed under Engineering, so the reporting line may cross functions.
• Verdict: Act — Apply and route. Battlecard: Request Company Battlecard before interview.

13. Airwallex. Cross-border payments platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series E+, Melbourne HQ with second global HQ in San Francisco.
• Offices: SF hybrid.
• Value chain: Midstream infrastructure — provides the payments, treasury, and FX layer that businesses build on. Design owns the experience of moving money across borders, currencies, and regulatory regimes.
• Best at: Cross-border payments that feel domestic to the business user, absorbing FX and compliance complexity into the platform rather than the interface.
• Head of Product Design — posted September 1 (day 32). $269K–$385K with equity.
• Signals: Day 32. Verify.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Alibaba's B2B platform redesign is the direct match — you redesigned a cross-border commerce platform where trust was the conversion bottleneck, and you moved transactions +20%. Head of Product Design means function-building mandate. Lead with Alibaba for domain proof, then pivot to the BCG DV track record of building design functions from scratch across Thermo Fisher, Red Cross, and Equinox+.
• Hiring route: The open role itself is the design leadership seat. CPO Shannon Scott is the likely sponsor.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first. Day 32. Confirm the search is still active.

14. Tilt Finance. Mobile lender using 250+ financial signals in credit models.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Early-stage.
• Offices: Remote US/Canada.
• Value chain: Downstream application — uses AI-driven credit models to make lending decisions on mobile. Design owns how 250 signals become a comprehensible credit experience for the borrower.
• Best at: Using alternative financial data to extend credit to underserved borrowers.
• Head of Product Design — posted September 14. $250K–$300K with equity.
• Signals: Posted within 20 days. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 13/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: 250 financial signals feeding a credit decision is an information-density problem. The borrower sees a yes/no, but the system's confidence is built from hundreds of data points the user never inspects. Thermo Fisher's exception-first triage (mySupply, $20M+ margin, 100% adoption, BCG DV) is the match: you designed decision surfaces where the system's recommendation needed to be trusted by users who couldn't see the full evidence chain. You've solved this in regulated pharma supply chain, where the cost of a wrong decision is measured in patient outcomes.
• Hiring route: No design or product owner identified. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route.

15. FinQuery. AI-enabled accounting automation.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, remote US.
• Offices: Remote US.
• Value chain: Downstream application — automates lease and contract accounting with AI, then surfaces results for human review. Design owns the review, error recovery, and trust surfaces.
• Best at: Automating the tedious parts of accounting while keeping the accountant in control of the judgment calls.
• Director of Product Design — posted September 23. $180K–$200K. Reports to SVP Product. Hands-on across AI automation, human review, error recovery, research, and design systems.
• Signals: Posted within 11 days. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 1, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 1, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: The posting explicitly names "human review" and "error recovery" as design surfaces — the Trust essay's prediction-mismatch and authority-violation distinction applied to accounting. Lead with CarrierIQ's approval gate (human reviews agent output before a financial commitment) and the Red Cross platform (6 systems to 1, high-stakes operational surface, BCG DV). Comp is below floor. Pursue only if scope and equity compensate.
• Hiring route: SVP Product confirmed as direct manager; individual not named.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route.

16. Engine. Denver-based fintech for small business banking, payments, and billing.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, Denver HQ.
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Downstream application — provides banking and payments infrastructure for small businesses. Design owns the billing and payment workflow surfaces.
• Best at: Consolidating fragmented small-business financial operations into a single platform.
• Staff Product Designer, FinTech — earliest record September 18. $155K–$215K with equity.
• Signals: Greenhouse record updated September 28 but original date holds at September 18. Day 16.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 7/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 10/15 (Comp 1, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 2). Comp below floor — pursue only if other financial-surface targets don't convert. Role score could move to 11 if equity package is meaningful.
• Portfolio match: Small-business billing workflows share the information-density problem you solved at Alibaba — multiple payment states, reconciliation surfaces, and exception handling across a platform that serves operators without finance teams. Lead with Alibaba's B2B platform redesign for the operational-user angle.
• Hiring route: No design leader or role-level manager found. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route. Lower priority.

17. TapTap Send. Remittance platform for cross-border money transfers to Africa and South Asia.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, NYC-based.
• Offices: Listed as NYC; remote eligibility and California acceptance unconfirmed.
• Value chain: Downstream application — consumer-facing mobile remittance. Design owns the trust and transparency of cross-border money movement for a diaspora user base.
• Best at: Speed and low fees for remittance corridors that traditional providers underserve.
• Staff Product Designer — posted September 9 (day 24). No compensation disclosed. Levels.fyi reports ~$203K median for product management, no design data.
• Signals: Day 24. Verify.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 10/15 (Comp 1, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 2). Comp unresolved — could move to 2 if recruiter confirms $200K+ range.
• Portfolio match: Cross-border money movement for underserved corridors is a trust-and-transparency problem. The user sends money and waits — the design must make that wait feel safe. Alibaba's cross-border B2B platform redesign is the domain match; the Red Cross disbursement platform (BCG DV) is the high-stakes money-movement match ($847K disbursed, national deployment).
• Hiring route: No senior design owner located. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first. Confirm California eligibility and compensation before investing.

Monitoring — Ignore-until-trigger:

18. Klarna. BNPL and consumer payments. Trigger: US-remote Staff+ design posting. 19. Wise. Cross-border money transfer. Trigger: US-eligible Staff+ design posting. 20. MoneyLion. Consumer fintech super-app. Trigger: Staff+ product design posting. 21. Wealthsimple. Investing and financial planning. Trigger: US-eligible Staff+ design posting.

3. Enterprise Workflow Intelligence

Four active companies where the design problem is unifying multi-step work across dense operational surfaces. Users are experts who move fast. Atlassian is the time-sensitive entry — hot band expires around October 7.

22. Atlassian. Rovo & AI experiences across Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Public ($40B+ market cap).
• Offices: Sydney HQ, accepted US locations including Bay Area.
• Value chain: Downstream platform — Rovo is an AI agent that operates across Atlassian's product suite. Design owns cross-product coherence for an agent whose scope is ambiguous across products.
• Best at: Developer workflow tooling at massive scale with sustained design investment.
• Principal Product Designer, Rovo & AI — posted September 15. Hot band ends approximately October 7.
• Signals: Posted 19 days ago. Expiring.
• Tier: Enterprise platform. Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 2). Comp could move to 3 — Atlassian's public comp data for Principal-level roles is strong, but this posting doesn't disclose.
• Portfolio match: Rovo operates across Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket simultaneously. Alibaba's redesign (cross-functional sprints across homepage, search, and PDP) proves you can design coherent experiences across product surfaces that were built independently. The AI angle: Rovo's agent needs the same provenance and supervision patterns you've formalized in the Trust essay, applied to developer workflows where the user's mental model of the agent's scope is ambiguous across products.
• Hiring route: Carola Pescio Canale, Head of Design, AI. Moderate confidence — domain owner, not confirmed requisition owner.
• Verdict: Watch — Contact now. Signal expires in days.

23. Help Scout. Customer support platform, remote-first for 10+ years, teammates in 115+ cities.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Mature private company (PE-backed).
• Offices: Remote-first, no physical HQ.
• Value chain: Downstream application — the platform is the support workflow itself. Design owns the experience of both the support agent and the customer receiving help.
• Best at: A genuinely remote-first company that has sustained design quality for over a decade.
• Director of Product Design — posted September 16. $226K–$242K with equity. Reports directly to CPO.
• Signals: Posted 18 days ago. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 7/12 (AI 1, Stage 1, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 2). Company score is below 8, but role score clears Watch at 11. AI exposure could move to 2 if the support-automation roadmap includes agent-assisted resolution.
• Portfolio match: Director reporting to CPO at a remote-first company is a function-building mandate with direct strategic influence. Your BCG DV track record — building design functions from zero across Thermo Fisher, Red Cross, Equinox+, and Alle — is the primary proof. The Help Scout angle: customer support is a trust surface where the agent (human or AI) represents the company to an upset customer. The Trust essay's "a trustworthy representative knows when to come back" principle applies directly to support escalation design.
• Hiring route: CPO Scott Rocher, confirmed direct manager. High confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Contact now.

24. HighLevel. AI-enabled business operations platform covering CRM, marketing, sales, and operations.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, 1,500+ employees, fully remote.
• Offices: Fully remote US.
• Value chain: Downstream platform — consolidates CRM, marketing automation, sales, and operations into a single surface with AI layered across. Design owns coherence across that surface area.
• Best at: Serving agencies and SMBs with an all-in-one platform that replaces 5–10 point solutions.
• Staff Product Designer — posted September 5 (day 28). $190K–$240K.
• Signals: Day 28. Verify.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: Coherence across CRM, marketing, sales, and operations is the design challenge. Lead with Alibaba's platform redesign (enterprise workflow at scale) and the cross-functional sprint methodology you used to align independently built product surfaces.
• Hiring route: No design leader or role-level manager found. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first.

25. Customer.io. Messaging automation platform for lifecycle marketing.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, Americas-remote.
• Offices: Americas-remote.
• Value chain: Midstream tooling — provides the messaging orchestration layer that product and marketing teams build campaigns on. Design owns the workflow builder and audience segmentation surfaces.
• Best at: Fine-grained control over messaging logic for technical marketers, without requiring engineering support.
• Principal Product Designer — posted September 3 (day 30).
• Signals: Day 30. Verify.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: Workflow-builder design for technical users who think in logic rather than layouts. The Agentic Labs apps (Brand Pulse, Retail Velocity) demonstrate you can design operational surfaces for expert users configuring complex systems. Lead with the Agentic Labs production work for the workflow-design angle, supported by Alibaba for platform scale.
• Hiring route: No VP/Head of Design or role-level reporting line recovered. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first.

4. Trust, Evidence, and Compliance

Three active companies where the product surface is an evidence layer — showing users what's true, how confident the system is, what risk looks like. AlphaSense is the standout, but it's at day 39 and needs immediate verification.

32. AlphaSense. AI-powered market intelligence platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series F+ ($4B+ valuation).
• Offices: NYC or US-remote.
• Value chain: Downstream application — synthesizes insights from thousands of financial documents. Design owns how analysts trace claims back to sources and assess system confidence.
• Best at: Financial document search and synthesis where the AI shows its work — analysts can trace any synthesized claim back to the source.
• Director, Product Design, AI Experience — original date August 25 (day 39). Approaching decay threshold.
• Signals: Day 39. Expiring. Verify immediately.
• Tier: Enterprise platform. Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 14/15 (Comp 3, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: AlphaSense synthesizes insights from thousands of documents, and the analyst needs to trace any claim back to its source. CarrierIQ's provenance chain at a different scale: instead of tracing a quote through an insurance workflow, you're tracing a market insight through a document corpus. The Trust essay's "show the narrowest claim supported by evidence" principle is the exact design thesis. Diana Mounter has publicly discussed hiring AI product designers — your forward-looking artifacts demonstrate you've already formalized the patterns she's looking for.
• Hiring route: Diana Mounter, current design leader. Moderate confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first. Day 39. Verify immediately or this drops to Ignore next cycle.

33. Vanta. Compliance and security platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Series D ($150M at $4.15B valuation), $300M+ ARR.
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Downstream application — automates compliance certification (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.) and continuous monitoring. Design owns how compliance status is communicated to both the company and its customers.
• Best at: Turning compliance from a periodic audit into a continuous, automated posture.
• Staff Visual Product Designer, Design Systems — posted September 1 (day 32). $236K–$278K with equity.
• Signals: Day 32. Verify. Head of Design seat also advertised separately — role authority unresolved.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 12/15 (Comp 3, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Design systems for a compliance platform means every component carries evidentiary weight — a status badge is a warranted claim about whether a control passed or failed. The Trust essay's "status should be a warranted claim, not a system-owned fact" principle is the specific thesis. Lead with Alle's dual-surface redesign (design systems across consumer and provider surfaces, 30M members, BCG DV) as production proof of systems work at scale.
• Hiring route: Head of Design seat itself has been advertised separately, leaving role authority unresolved. Use recruiting as the information route.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first.

34. SecurityScorecard. Cyber-risk platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage, NYC-based. New president appointed September 9.
• Offices: Remote US.
• Value chain: Downstream application — scores organizations' cybersecurity posture and makes that score legible to non-technical buyers. Design owns risk communication.
• Best at: Cybersecurity risk assessable at a glance for procurement and board-level audiences who don't read vulnerability reports.
• Staff Product Designer — posted September 15.
• Signals: New president appointed September 9, signaling organizational momentum. Posted 19 days ago. Hot.
• Tier: Enterprise platform. Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: Security scoring is risk communication — making a complex risk assessment legible to a non-technical buyer. CarrierIQ's provenance chain (making agent-generated context inspectable) maps to making a security score's underlying evidence inspectable. The new president signals organizational momentum and potential design investment.
• Hiring route: No design hiring manager identified. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route.

5. Regulated Platforms and Marketplace Craft

Five active companies where domain constraints — healthcare regulation, marketplace dynamics, platform governance, consumer finance — shape the design mandate as much as user needs do. Your BCG DV portfolio is the primary proof layer: Thermo Fisher in pharma, Red Cross in disaster relief, Alle in healthcare aesthetics.

42. Zocdoc. Healthcare marketplace connecting patients and providers.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private.
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Two-sided marketplace — patients find and book providers, providers manage availability and patient flow. Design owns both sides, but this role focuses on the provider platform.
• Best at: Healthcare provider discovery and booking that works for both sides — patients get frictionless scheduling, providers get control over practice flow.
• Principal Product Designer, Provider Platform — earliest record September 30. $170K–$260K.
• Signals: Posted within 4 days. Hot.
• Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Read healthcare playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Provider Platform means you're designing for the supply side of a two-sided healthcare marketplace. Alle's dual-surface redesign (consumer + provider, 30M members, 3.2× redemption, BCG DV) is the direct match: you've designed the provider side of a healthcare-adjacent marketplace and moved the metrics that matter. Provider workflow efficiency directly determines marketplace liquidity. Lead with the Alle provider surface specifically.
• Hiring route: Natalie Phillips-Hamblett, VP Design. High confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Contact now.

43. Impiricus. AI-powered HCP engagement platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage, NYC/Atlanta.
• Offices: NYC, Atlanta, or remote US.
• Value chain: Downstream application — AI recommends content and interactions to healthcare professionals. Design owns the intersection of regulatory constraints and professional skepticism.
• Best at: AI-driven engagement with healthcare professionals that respects the HCP's time and professional judgment, in a domain where most tools feel like pharma marketing.
• Director, Product Design — posted September 21. $180K–$200K. Reports to SVP Product.
• Signals: Posted 13 days ago. Hot.
• Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Read healthcare playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 3, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 12/15 (Comp 1, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: The system recommends content to HCPs, and the design must respect both regulatory constraints and professional skepticism. Thermo Fisher's mySupply ($20M+ margin, 6 pharma partners, 100% adoption, BCG DV) proves you've designed for healthcare-adjacent professionals who won't tolerate anything that feels like marketing dressed as utility. Comp is below floor.
• Hiring route: SVP Product confirmed as direct manager; individual not named.
• Verdict: Watch — Apply and route.

44. Gusto. Payroll, benefits, and HR platform.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private (~$10B valuation), Denver/NYC/SF hybrid.
• Offices: Denver, NYC, or SF hybrid.
• Value chain: Downstream platform — handles payroll, benefits, and HR for small and mid-size businesses. Design owns surfaces where financial and legal accuracy is non-negotiable.
• Best at: Payroll and benefits administration that feels approachable for small business owners operating without HR departments.
• Design Systems, Staff Product Designer — earliest record September 29. Denver $147K–$215K, SF/NY $178K–$253K.
• Signals: Posted within 5 days. Hot.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
• Portfolio match: Design systems for a platform that handles payroll and benefits means every component carries financial and legal weight — a misrendered pay stub or benefits election screen has real consequences. Alle's dual-surface design systems work (consumer + provider, consistent patterns across 30M members, BCG DV) is the production proof. The Gusto-specific problem: the system must accommodate state-by-state payroll rules without surfacing that complexity to the employer. You solved a version of this at Thermo Fisher — regulatory density absorbed by the platform so the user sees clarity.
• Hiring route: CDO Amy Thibodeau. High confidence.
• Verdict: Watch — Contact now.

45. Flex. Consumer fintech for rent and bill payments.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage.
• Offices: NYC, Salt Lake City, or SF.
• Value chain: Downstream application — helps consumers pay rent and bills on their schedule. Design owns the trust and transparency of deferred payment flows.
• Best at: Flexible rent payment that avoids the predatory feel of traditional credit products.
• Principal Product Designer, Consumer — posted August 24 (day 40). Two days from the 43-day retirement threshold.
• Signals: Day 40. Expiring.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2). Scope could move to 3 if the role expands beyond consumer surface.
• Portfolio match: Consumer fintech for rent payments is a trust problem — the user defers a high-stakes payment and needs to understand exactly what they owe and when. Alle's consumer surface (30M members, $42 CAC, BCG DV) proves you can design consumer trust experiences that convert. The Red Cross disbursement platform proves you've designed money-movement surfaces where clarity prevents real harm.
• Hiring route: No confirmed design hiring manager. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first. Expires this week. Move now or let it go.

46. Apollo GraphQL. Developer tools for API management.

• Stage / Size / Capital: Growth-stage. US-remote. $200K–$240K with equity.
• Offices: US-remote.
• Value chain: Midstream infrastructure — provides the GraphQL federation layer that engineering teams build on. Design owns developer experience for API composition, observability, and governance surfaces.
• Best at: Federated GraphQL that's manageable for large engineering organizations.
• Senior Staff Product Designer — posted September 10 (day 23).
• Signals: Day 23. Verify.
• Tier: Growth-stage platform. Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
• Rubric: Company 7/12 (AI 1, Stage 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio 2).
• Portfolio match: Developer tools design means making infrastructure legible to practitioners who think in code. The developer-consumer legibility gap from your Trust essay work applies: API capability outruns the UI's ability to explain it. Lead with TinyFish's technical depth (agent traces, auditability) to establish credibility with a developer-tools audience.
• Hiring route: No design leader or reporting manager recovered. Apply through ATS.
• Verdict: Watch — Verify first.
