Signal Watch — The 100 List — Non-Bay Area Dormant Inventory, October 2026

None of these 100 companies need outreach this week. All sit below active signal thresholds — no qualifying design posting, funding window, or fresh executive hire in range. Each clears a 7+ company rubric score. Each has a specific trigger condition that would promote it to Watch or Act.

This replaces the prior non-Bay dormant inventory. Scores below are carried from prior editorial scoring, not freshly recomputed. Re-score before outreach when a trigger fires.

1. First qualifying senior design mandate

Capital, product complexity, AI centrality — all present. What's missing is a posted senior design seat. Set a LinkedIn job alert for each of these. When a Staff or Director product design role appears, your maximum-advantage window is about 48 hours before the pipeline fills. Every senior design recruiter in the market watches these boards too.

1. Cohere. Enterprise foundation models and agent platform for businesses building with LLMs.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C+, ~1,000 employees, $600M+ raised, ~$7B valuation.
   • Offices: Toronto (HQ), Montreal, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Seoul. Flexible remote.
   • Value chain: Upstream model provider and agent infrastructure. Design scope concentrates at the enterprise deployment layer — how businesses configure, supervise, and trust agent workflows.
   • Best at: Enterprise-grade model deployment with data privacy guarantees that satisfy on-prem customers OpenAI and Anthropic can't reach.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role on official board. Last capital event (Sep 2025) well past its window.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: Cohere's gap sits between CLI-level configurability and the enterprise buyer's need to understand what an agent will do before approving deployment. CarrierIQ's approval gate — user inspects agent-produced context before authorizing a policy bind — is the same pattern applied to enterprise admin reviewing agent configuration before production. Lead with CarrierIQ's provenance chain. You shipped the approval-before-commitment pattern at TinyFish in production, which gives you practitioner depth.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: First US-eligible Staff/Director product design seat for agent configuration or enterprise deployment workflows.

2. ElevenLabs. Voice synthesis, speech-to-speech, and conversational agent infrastructure.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series D, $781M total, $11B valuation, ~300 employees.
   • Offices: New York, London, San Francisco, Warsaw.
   • Value chain: Upstream voice-AI infrastructure. Design scope lives at the consent and identity layer — who authorized this voice, what disclosure accompanies synthetic speech.
   • Best at: Voice quality and latency that makes competitors sound robotic.
   • Signals: No qualifying senior product design role found. Capital isn't the constraint; a design leadership mandate is.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: Synthetic voice consent adds an identity dimension most agent-supervision problems don't have: who authorized this voice to represent them? Allē's dual-surface work (provider identity on one side, consumer trust on the other, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is the lead — you've designed for asymmetric identity relationships where one party's representation is consumed by another. The Trust essay's delegation handoff (Watch, Verify, Delegate) gives you a framework for voice authorization tiers.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-eligible senior product design role for consent, identity, or agent supervision surfaces.

3. Ideogram. Generative image and typography product for designers and creators.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, ~$100M+ raised, ~80 employees. Pre-IPO with meaningful equity.
   • Offices: Toronto (HQ). Remote-eligible for some roles.
   • Value chain: Downstream AI-native creative tool. Design scope concentrates at the controllability layer — how users steer generation toward precise visual outcomes.
   • Best at: Typography in generated images, which no competitor handles well.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: The core challenge is controllability — how a user specifies "this typeface at this weight in this composition" without reverting to manual tools. Your forward-looking artifact work on intent-based interaction is built for this. Support with Brand Pulse's intent-to-output loop (user sets parameters, system produces, user evaluates). TinyFish production experience gives you firsthand understanding of intent-to-output loops where agents interpreted user specifications and users evaluated results.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: First senior product design mandate for controllable generation workflows. Verify US/remote eligibility.

4. HeyGen. AI avatar video creation and real-time translation platform.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C+, ~$200M+ raised, ~300 employees.
   • Offices: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Shenzhen.
   • Value chain: Midstream AI video tooling. Design scope at the identity consent and localization review layer.
   • Best at: Real-time avatar lip-sync and translation quality that makes enterprise adoption viable.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role on official board. Rapid product expansion suggests design hiring is coming.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: The avatar's representation of the user degrades as the system translates, localizes, and distributes — mandate drift applied to identity. Lead with the Trust essay's return-condition framework (when should the system come back to the user for re-authorization?) rather than the provenance chain. You've dealt with mandate drift in production agent deployments at TinyFish, where silent conversion of exceptions into precedent was a recurring failure you had to design around.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior product design mandate for avatar governance, identity consent, or localization review.

5. Shield AI. Autonomous defense aircraft and mission-planning software.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series F, $1B+ raised, ~1,000 employees.
   • Offices: San Diego (HQ), Dallas, Washington DC.
   • Value chain: Vertically integrated — hardware, autonomy software, and mission interfaces. Design scope at the human-supervision layer for autonomous systems.
   • Best at: Autonomous flight in GPS-denied environments, which is a harder technical problem than most commercial autonomy.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role found. Defense-sector design hiring is opaque.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: The highest-stakes application of the Trust essay's supervision framework: a human operator must understand what an autonomous system will do, verify its plan, and retain meaningful override authority under time pressure. The Red Cross platform (6 systems to 1, national deployment, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is your proof that you've designed for consequential decisions under operational pressure. You've shipped decision gates where errors have real human cost.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior human-supervision design role with acceptable values alignment and clearance accessibility. Flag: defense-sector values gate — evaluate before pursuing.

6. Captions. AI video creation and editing tools for creators and businesses.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$100M+ raised, ~150 employees.
   • Offices: New York (HQ).
   • Value chain: Downstream AI creative tool. Design scope at the generation-review-publication pipeline.
   • Best at: Mobile-first AI video editing that collapsed a professional workflow into a consumer experience.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: The design challenge is the review moment between generation and publication. Brand Pulse's in-progress visibility patterns (watching an agent work, evaluating intermediate output) parallel the experience of watching AI edit video in real time. Lead with Brand Pulse specifically — the user here is evaluating quality as it emerges, not authorizing a consequential action after the fact.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director role owning generation review and publication controls.

7. Copy.ai. AI go-to-market workflow platform for sales and marketing teams.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B+, ~$50M+ raised, ~200 employees.
   • Offices: Remote-first, US distributed.
   • Value chain: Midstream AI workflow tooling for GTM teams. Design scope at the supervised-outbound-agent layer.
   • Best at: Chaining multiple AI actions into GTM workflows rather than offering single-prompt generation.
   • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: Copy.ai chains multiple AI actions, so the agent's output drifts from the sales rep's original intent across steps. Each chained action compounds deviation — the Trust essay's mandate maintenance problem applied to GTM workflows. You saw this firsthand at TinyFish, where chained agent actions silently converted exceptions into precedent.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: First senior product design mandate for supervised outbound agent workflows.

8. D-ID. Conversational digital avatars for enterprise and consumer applications.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B+, ~$50M+ raised, ~100 employees.
   • Offices: Tel Aviv (HQ), New York.
   • Value chain: Midstream avatar infrastructure. Design scope at the disclosure and human-handoff layer.
   • Best at: Real-time conversational avatars that maintain natural interaction patterns.
   • Signals: No qualifying US design role found.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: The hardest design problem is the handoff: when the avatar reaches the boundary of its competence, what happens? The Trust essay's return conditions (infeasibility, unfamiliar tradeoff, material conflict) frame this. Allē's dual-surface work (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) gives you proof of designing both sides of a two-party system where trust is asymmetric.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US product design lead for disclosure, identity, and human-handoff surfaces.

9. Ada. AI customer-service automation platform for enterprise.

   • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$200M+ raised, ~500 employees.
   • Offices: Toronto (HQ), remote-eligible for some roles.
   • Value chain: Downstream AI application layer for customer service. Design scope at the escalation and resolution boundary.
   • Best at: Automated resolution rates that justify enterprise pricing — the product works well enough that customers let it handle real conversations.
   • Signals: No qualifying US-accessible design leadership or Staff mandate found.
   • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
   • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
   • Portfolio match: Ada's escalation boundary is bilateral: the customer needs to know the handoff happened, and the human agent needs context about what the AI already tried. The Red Cross platform (6 systems consolidated to 1, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is your proof of designing case-management handoffs where the receiving party needs consolidated context from multiple prior interactions.
   • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible design leadership or Staff mandate for agent escalation and resolution design.

10. Tennr. Healthcare referral automation using AI document processing.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, ~$50M+ raised, ~80 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Midstream healthcare workflow automation. Design scope at the clinical-document review and exception-handling layer.
    • Best at: Automating the referral intake process that buries healthcare providers in faxes and manual data entry.
    • Signals: Has a current Senior Product Designer role (Sep 23) — Senior level doesn't independently qualify under the Staff/Director rule.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — current posting below qualifying level.
    • Portfolio match: When the AI misreads a referral document, the clinician needs to catch it. Same pattern as Thermo Fisher mySupply (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) — a human reviewer evaluates automated output in a regulated, high-consequence environment. Lead with the $20M+ margin and 100% adoption metrics. Pharma is a harder regulatory environment than healthcare referrals, which works in your favor.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director product design role posted, or current Senior role reposted at a higher level.

2. Capital-to-design conversion

These companies have raised enough to build a real design function but haven't converted that capital into a senior design hire yet. The timing advantage when the trigger fires is different from cluster 1: the company has been operating without senior design leadership, which means the new hire shapes the function rather than joins one. That's a scope-expandability signal. It also means the hiring manager is likely a product leader, not a design leader — identify who's running the search before you position.

11. Recraft. Professional generative visual design tool with precise style and brand control.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, $30M (May 2025), ~50 employees.
    • Offices: Remote-first, distributed.
    • Value chain: Downstream AI creative tool. Design scope at the controllability and brand-fidelity layer.
    • Best at: Style consistency across generated images — what makes generative tools usable for brand work rather than exploration.
    • Signals: Series B already completed. AI Designer and performance-creative openings exist but no verified Staff/Director product design mandate.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no qualifying posting.
    • Portfolio match: Professional designers have zero tolerance for "close enough." The intent-specification problem here is harder than consumer tools because the acceptable deviation from the user's vision is near zero. Lead with Equinox+ (0 to MVP in 3 months, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) to show you ship polished consumer-craft product fast, then bridge to your forward-looking artifact work on intent-based interaction.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: New senior product design requisition. Series B capital is already deployed; the next signal is the hire.

12. Colossyan. AI video platform for enterprise learning and training content.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series A, $22M (Feb 2024), ~80 employees.
    • Offices: London (HQ), Budapest. US access unconfirmed.
    • Value chain: Downstream AI application for enterprise L&D. Design scope at the enterprise content-creation and review layer.
    • Best at: Enterprise compliance training video at a fraction of traditional production cost.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found. A Series B would signal readiness for senior design investment.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Enterprise L&D video has a review-and-approval workflow where a compliance officer watches AI-generated training content before distribution. Brand Pulse's in-progress visibility patterns (watching an agent produce output, evaluating quality in real time) parallel the compliance officer reviewing generated video. In regulated content workflows, the review surface carries most of the product's weight.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Series B plus qualifying design cluster. Verify US hiring eligibility.

13. Regard. AI clinical insights platform for hospital inpatient care.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, $61M (Jul 2024), ~100 employees. Expanded into cardiology and surgery in March 2026.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Midstream clinical decision support. Design scope at the clinician-facing evidence and uncertainty layer.
    • Best at: Surfacing clinical insights physicians miss during rounds — the product catches missed diagnoses, not just documents known ones.
    • Signals: Specialty expansion is a growth signal but hasn't produced a design leadership posting.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: A physician needs to know whether the system is flagging a probable missed diagnosis or a low-confidence suggestion — the Trust essay's "status should be a warranted claim" principle at clinical stakes. The Red Cross platform (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) proves you've designed for high-consequence decisions where the system's confidence level changes what the user should do next.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Series C or new CPO/design leader followed by senior design hiring.

14. Higharc. AI-powered design-to-construction platform for homebuilders.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, $95M (Jun 2026), $170M+ total, ~150 employees.
    • Offices: Durham, NC (HQ).
    • Value chain: Vertically integrated — from architectural design through construction documentation. Design scope at the AI-assisted design and materials workflow layer.
    • Best at: Collapsing the gap between architectural design intent and construction-ready documentation.
    • Signals: Series C closed June 30 — well past the 21-day funding window. No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The expansion into materials-distributor workflows creates a multi-party coordination surface: architect, builder, and distributor need to see the same project state with role-appropriate views. Thermo Fisher mySupply (6 pharma partners, 100% adoption, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is the direct match — you've shipped multi-party enterprise workflows where each party sees different information about the same underlying system state.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director design role following the Series C investment.

15. Hummingbird. AML and financial-crime operations platform for banks and fintechs.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, ~$40M+ raised, ~100 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Midstream compliance infrastructure. Design scope at the investigation workflow and decision-documentation layer.
    • Best at: Making AML case management usable enough that compliance teams actually complete investigations rather than rubber-stamping them.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated (financial regulation variant — same playbook applies to consequential financial decisions under compliance constraints). Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The investigation workflow — analyst reviews flagged transaction, evaluates evidence, documents decision — parallels CarrierIQ's approval gate. But the financial-crime context adds an audit trail requirement that makes the documentation layer a first-class design surface. Lead with CarrierIQ's provenance chain, emphasize the documentation layer.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Series C followed by product design cluster.

16. Zest AI. AI credit underwriting platform for lenders.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C+, ~$100M+ raised, ~200 employees.
    • Offices: Los Angeles (HQ).
    • Value chain: Midstream AI decisioning infrastructure for lending. Design scope at the explainability and lender-decision layer.
    • Best at: Making AI underwriting decisions explainable enough to satisfy regulators.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Explainability in regulated lending serves two audiences with different needs from the same decision: the lender (was this recommendation accurate?) and the regulator (was this decision fair?). The Trust essay's "explanation should diagnose two failures separately" principle — prediction mismatch vs. authority violation — governs this surface. Alibaba's enterprise platform redesign ($50B+ GMV) shows you've designed enterprise decision surfaces at scale. The differentiator: you understand that the same explanation must satisfy two audiences asking fundamentally different questions.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior explainability or lender-decision design mandate.

17. Ocrolus. Document AI platform for lending decisions.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$100M+ raised, ~200 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Upstream document-intelligence infrastructure. Design scope expanding from extraction into decisioning.
    • Best at: Document accuracy rates high enough for automated lending decisions — the product replaces manual document review.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: As Ocrolus moves from extraction into decisions, it faces a product evolution Alibaba's B2B platform redesign ($50B+ GMV, +20% transactions) parallels: redesigning a product whose scope is expanding from one function (showing what the system found) into another (helping the user decide what to do about it). This transition is where design influence either expands or gets locked out. You've led that platform-scope expansion at enterprise scale.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director role as product expands from extraction into decisions.

18. Alloy. Identity verification and fraud-decision platform for financial institutions.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$100M+ raised, ~300 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Midstream identity and risk infrastructure. Design scope at the decision-orchestration and review layer.
    • Best at: Letting financial institutions build custom identity-verification workflows without writing code — the configuration surface is the product.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The configuration surface where a compliance officer builds verification rules is a workflow-authoring problem — the user is defining what the system is authorized to do. That's mandate-setting from the Trust essay. Alibaba's enterprise platform redesign ($50B+ GMV) shows you've designed configuration surfaces for enterprise operators at scale. Lead with Alibaba.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Renewed funding or product expansion accompanied by senior design hiring.

19. Current. Consumer banking and credit-building app.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series D, ~$400M+ raised, ~300 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer fintech. Design scope at the trust and financial-decision layer.
    • Best at: Credit-building products that work for underbanked consumers — the product serves people traditional banks won't.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 0, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Consumer financial trust is the design problem here. Allē's consumer engagement metrics (30M members, 3.2× redemption, $42 CAC, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) show you've designed consumer financial surfaces where trust directly drives engagement. Lead with Allē's measurable outcomes.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: New capital or product expansion followed by a senior trust-design role.

20. Palmetto. Residential clean-energy software and services platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, ~$300M+ raised, ~500 employees.
    • Offices: Charleston, SC (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Vertically integrated — software connecting homeowners, installers, and financing. Design scope at the multi-party workflow layer.
    • Best at: Simplifying the solar installation process from quote through financing through installation.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found. Sector headwinds may affect trajectory.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 0, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The installer/homeowner workflow is a two-sided platform problem. Allē's provider/consumer dual surface (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) covers the installer needing operational efficiency while the homeowner needs transparency. Thermo Fisher mySupply's multi-partner coordination covers the installer-network management side.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Renewed financing plus design leadership for installer/homeowner workflows.

3. New design or product executive

These companies either lack visible design leadership, have had leadership instability, or have a stale search that needs a new buyer to reset. A new CPO, VP Design, or Head of Design appointment opens a 30-day window where the new leader is building their team and most receptive to inbound. Set alerts for executive-level LinkedIn profile changes at these companies. When you see the appointment, reach the new leader within the first two weeks — by week four they've already started sourcing through their own network.

21. Jasper. AI marketing workflow platform for enterprise content teams.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series A+, ~$300M+ raised, ~300 employees.
    • Offices: Austin (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Midstream AI content tooling for marketing teams. Design scope at the brand-controlled generation and review layer.
    • Best at: Enterprise brand voice consistency in AI-generated marketing content.
    • Signals: A Staff Product Designer posting remains reachable but the search record is several months old. Stale — do not treat as live without a new requisition ID or buyer promotion.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — posting is stale.
    • Portfolio match: Brand-voice control is a mandate-maintenance problem: the brand guidelines are the mandate, and the AI's output drifts from them. Brand Pulse's real-time brand sentiment monitoring shows you understand how brand consistency is measured and maintained at scale. Lead with Brand Pulse specifically — you built the monitoring layer for brand consistency in production at Agentic Labs.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: New design executive or buyer promotion that resets the stale Staff requisition.

22. DeepL. AI translation and writing platform for enterprise and consumer.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B+, $300M raised at $2B valuation (May 2024), ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: Cologne (HQ), London, Austin, New York, Tokyo, Seoul.
    • Value chain: Upstream AI language infrastructure. Design scope at the enterprise workflow integration layer.
    • Best at: Translation quality that professionals trust for production work — the product replaced human translators.
    • Signals: No visible design executive with clear authority over enterprise workflow expansion. Design leadership structure is opaque.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Enterprise expansion means translation embedded in business processes (contracts, support tickets, product documentation) rather than used standalone. Alibaba's enterprise platform redesign ($50B+ GMV) is your proof of designing for enterprise workflows where the product is embedded in business operations. Lead with Alibaba.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Visible design executive appointment with authority over enterprise workflow expansion, followed by US-eligible senior design hiring.

23. Stability AI. Generative media models and developer tools.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, $232M total, ~200 employees. History of leadership instability.
    • Offices: London (HQ), distributed.
    • Value chain: Upstream model provider. Design scope at the developer tooling layer.
    • Best at: Open-weight generative models that give developers more control than closed alternatives.
    • Signals: Design hiring activity observed on careers page (a US Product Design Engineer–Audio posting), but title and scope don't establish a Staff IC or Director+ seat. No direct ATS link available for the specific posting. Leadership stability remains a concern.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — current posting doesn't qualify.
    • Portfolio match: Developer-facing tools have a legibility gap between what the model can do and what the tooling helps the developer understand: the model's capabilities outrun the interface's ability to explain them. Your forward-looking artifact work on inference-aware UX covers developer tooling where model selection and parameter configuration are the design surface. You've seen this gap from both the developer side (TinyFish) and the consumer side (Agentic Labs).
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Stable product/design executive appointment followed by a qualifying US-eligible role. Leadership stability is a prerequisite.

24. Noom. Consumer weight-management and behavior-change platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $600M+ raised, ~2,000 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer health application. Design scope at the behavior-change and coaching layer.
    • Best at: Behavior-change methodology embedded in a consumer product.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found. Product direction has shifted multiple times.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI coaching expansion creates a delegation problem: when does the AI coach escalate to a human coach? Equinox+ (0 to MVP in 3 months, 4.8 stars, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) proves you can build a consumer wellness product with premium craft expectations. The Trust essay's return conditions frame the AI-to-human coaching handoff.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: New product/design leader with a credible product reset. Trajectory concerns require re-scoring before outreach.

25. MoneyLion. Consumer financial marketplace and banking platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: ML), ~700 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer fintech. Design scope at the financial-product recommendation and trust layer.
    • Best at: Marketplace model that matches consumers with financial products based on their profile.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: When the platform recommends a financial product, the user needs to understand whether the recommendation serves their interest or the platform's margin — the Trust essay's "whose objective" question. Allē's dual-surface redesign (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) shows you've designed for platforms where the business model creates inherent tension between user benefit and platform revenue.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Design executive appointment tied to product simplification or AI-powered financial advice.

26. Sisense. Embedded analytics platform for product teams.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $300M+ raised, ~800 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ), Tel Aviv.
    • Value chain: Midstream analytics infrastructure embedded in other products. Design scope at the AI-assisted insight layer.
    • Best at: Embedding analytics into other companies' products — the design challenge is the embed, not the dashboard.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Designing analytics that work inside someone else's product is constraint-driven. Allē's dual-surface work (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) covers serving two audiences (the embedding product team and the end user) with different needs. Portfolio match is moderate — strengthens if the role specifically involves AI-assisted insight generation.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: New CPO or design leader followed by a senior AI-analytics mandate.

27. Domo. Business intelligence and data applications platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: DOMO), ~800 employees. Trajectory concerns.
    • Offices: American Fork, UT (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream BI application layer.
    • Best at: Real-time data visualization at scale for business operators.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found. Trajectory has been flat.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: If Domo resets around AI-assisted data exploration, the design problem becomes helping business operators ask questions of data without knowing SQL — an intent-specification problem. Your forward-looking artifact work on intent-based interaction is relevant here. Portfolio match is weak unless the reset is real.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Product/design leadership reset tied to improved trajectory. Re-score trajectory before any outreach.

28. Qlik. Analytics, data integration, and data quality platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private (Thoma Bravo), ~3,000 employees.
    • Offices: King of Prussia, PA (HQ), distributed globally.

    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The associative engine surfaces relationships the user didn't ask for — the system infers what's relevant based on context. Your forward-looking artifact work on inference-aware UX addresses this: how should a product behave when the system knows more than the user asked for? Portfolio match is moderate.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior product/design executive with an AI decision-workflow mandate.

29. Pagaya. AI credit and capital-market infrastructure for lending partners.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: PGY), ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ), Tel Aviv.
    • Value chain: Upstream AI decisioning infrastructure for lending. B2B2C model.
    • Best at: AI underwriting that serves lending partners rather than consumers directly.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Three-party design problem: AI makes the decision, lending partner needs to understand it, consumer experiences the outcome. Thermo Fisher mySupply's multi-partner coordination (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) covers the partner-management layer. You've designed multi-party systems where each party has different information rights and different decision authority.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Design leader responsible for explainable risk decisions at the partner-facing layer.

30. Tractable. AI damage assessment for insurance and automotive claims.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series D+, $100M+ raised, ~300 employees.
    • Offices: London (HQ), New York, Tokyo.
    • Value chain: Midstream AI decisioning for insurance claims. Design scope at the claims-review and exception-handling layer.
    • Best at: Visual AI that assesses vehicle damage from photos accurately enough for insurers to automate claims.
    • Signals: No qualifying US-accessible design role found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: When the AI's damage assessment disagrees with the claimant's expectation, the design problem splits: the claimant needs to understand the assessment (prediction mismatch) and whether the system had authority to make it (authority violation). The Trust essay's dual-failure diagnosis governs this surface. The Red Cross disaster relief disbursement (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is your proof of designing appeals layers where contested decisions have real financial consequences.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible design executive or Staff role for claims review and exception handling.

4. Customer-facing AI product launch plus senior design ownership

Strong product foundations, building AI features, but no design mandate that owns the AI surface yet. When this trigger fires, the outreach angle shifts. These companies already have design teams and established design leadership. You're joining an existing function, so the hiring manager is likely a design leader who evaluates craft depth and systems thinking. Lead with portfolio artifacts, not org-building narratives.

31. GitLab. DevSecOps platform covering the full software development lifecycle.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: GTLB), ~2,000 employees.
    • Offices: Remote-first, globally distributed.

    • Best at: All-in-one DevSecOps in a single application.
    • Signals: No current openings on official job index.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI agent workflows (code generation, security scanning, deployment automation) create a supervision problem: developers need to understand what the agent did to their codebase before merging. CarrierIQ's provenance chain covers "what did the agent change, and what evidence supports the change." The gap between what the model can do and what the developer can verify is acute here.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Customer-facing agent-workflow launch followed by a Staff/Director design seat.

32. monday.com. Work management platform for teams.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: MNDY), ~2,000 employees. Strong growth.
    • Offices: Tel Aviv (HQ), New York, Miami, London, Sydney.
    • Value chain: Downstream work-management application.
    • Best at: Visual work management that non-technical teams actually adopt.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design mandate for AI agent workflows found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: When an AI agent creates tasks, assigns work, or updates project status, the team needs to understand what authority the agent has and what it changed. The Trust essay's mandate-maintenance framework applies — agent authority should be explicitly scoped. Alibaba's enterprise platform redesign shows you've designed for enterprise workflows at scale where multiple actors operate on shared state.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior design mandate owning agent action, permissions, and auditability.

33. ClickUp. Work and productivity platform with AI-powered project management.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, $400M+ raised, ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: San Diego (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Downstream productivity application.
    • Best at: Feature density that competes with multiple point solutions simultaneously.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design role found.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: When the AI creates a project plan, that plan becomes irreversible once team members start acting on it. The Trust essay's return conditions are the framework: the system should come back for re-authorization as the plan unfolds and conditions change. You've designed return-condition logic in production agent deployments at TinyFish.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior role for AI planning and delegated execution design.

34. Automattic. WordPress, WooCommerce, Tumblr, and publishing products.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private, profitable, 1,412 employees across 83 countries.
    • Offices: Fully distributed. Geography is not a blocker.
    • Value chain: Vertically integrated publishing and commerce infrastructure.
    • Best at: Distributed-company operations at scale.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design mandate found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI-assisted content creation across WordPress is a content-review problem at massive scale. Brand Pulse's real-time monitoring patterns cover content-quality monitoring. The Trust essay's mandate maintenance addresses AI writing assistants that drift from the author's voice.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior design role for AI publishing or commerce workflows.

35. Zapier. Automation and integration platform connecting apps and workflows.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private, profitable, ~800 employees. Remote-first since 2011.
    • Offices: Fully remote.
    • Value chain: Midstream automation infrastructure.
    • Best at: Making automation accessible to non-technical users.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design role found.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI agents chaining multiple actions across multiple services is the highest-stakes version of mandate maintenance. Each step compounds drift risk. Lead with the Trust essay's mandate-maintenance framework — the critical question across 12 chained services is whether the agent is still operating within the scope the user originally authorized. You designed recoverability into agent workflows at TinyFish and understand that in chained automation, the undo surface matters more than the do surface.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director seat for agent orchestration and recoverability design.

36. Workhuman. Employee recognition and HR platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private, profitable, ~1,500 employees.
    • Offices: Dublin (HQ), Framingham, MA.
    • Value chain: Downstream HR application.
    • Best at: Recognition programs that generate usable workforce-sentiment data.
    • Signals: No qualifying design role found. AI features are peripheral.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 0, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: If Workhuman launches AI-powered workforce insights that inform people decisions (promotions, retention risk), the design problem is explainability in consequential decisions about people. Portfolio match is speculative until the AI product materializes.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Consequential AI feature launch plus senior employee-decision design mandate.

37. DigitalOcean. Cloud infrastructure for developers and SMBs.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: DOCN), ~1,200 employees.
    • Offices: New York (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Upstream cloud infrastructure.
    • Best at: Developer experience that makes cloud infrastructure accessible to small teams.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design role found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI infrastructure products (GPU instances, model deployment, inference scaling) face a gap between what the infrastructure does and what the developer can understand about it. Your forward-looking artifact work on agent infrastructure as UX covers this territory. TinyFish production experience gives you the infrastructure-as-UX perspective.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior role for AI infrastructure onboarding and operations design.

38. Canonical. Ubuntu and enterprise Linux platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private, profitable, ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: London (HQ), globally distributed. Remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Upstream OS and infrastructure.
    • Best at: Ubuntu's dominance as the OS for AI/ML workloads.
    • Signals: No qualifying US-accessible senior design role found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 1, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: If Canonical builds AI operations tooling, the design challenge is fleet management for AI infrastructure. Cummins/ZED Connect's fleet management platform (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is a direct match. Use only if the role involves fleet or operations tooling.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible senior design role for AI operations or fleet tooling.

39. DuckDuckGo. Privacy-focused search engine and browser.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private, profitable, ~200 employees.
    • Offices: Paoli, PA (HQ), remote-first.
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer search and privacy application.
    • Best at: Privacy as a product feature rather than a policy.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design role found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 1. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: When AI generates an answer, the user needs to understand where the information came from — the Trust essay's warranted-claim principle applied to search. In a privacy-focused product, source attribution must work without tracking, which makes the design harder. You've designed warranted-claim surfaces in production at Agentic Labs — CarrierIQ's provenance chain shows what evidence supports each automated conclusion.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior design role for AI-sourced answers and user control.

40. BambooHR. HR, payroll, and employee-record platform for SMBs.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Private (PE-backed), ~1,500 employees.
    • Offices: Lindon, UT (HQ), remote-eligible.
    • Value chain: Downstream HR application.
    • Best at: HR software that SMBs can implement without a consultant.
    • Signals: No qualifying senior design role found.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 0, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: If BambooHR introduces AI-powered people analytics, the user is often the business owner, not an HR professional. Explainability requirements change based on the user's expertise level — an insight from Allē's dual-surface work (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) serving both providers and consumers. Portfolio match is speculative until the AI product materializes.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior mandate for explainable AI in consequential people decisions.

5. Bay-accessible or US-remote equivalent

These companies have qualifying-level design roles or strong design orgs, but current openings are geographically locked outside the US. Set alerts for these companies specifically — when they post a US-accessible version, the role scope is already validated. The advantage is that you can pre-load the portfolio match and outreach angle now, then move within hours when the geography opens up.

41. Suno. Generative music creation platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B+, ~$100M+ raised, ~80 employees.
    • Offices: Cambridge, MA (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream AI-native creative tool.
    • Best at: Making music creation accessible to people who can't play instruments.
    • Signals: Previously had a Head of Design search. No current qualifying role found.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Helping users specify musical intent without musical vocabulary is the purest version of the intent-specification problem. Your forward-looking artifact work on intent-based interaction was made for this. Equinox+ (0 to MVP in 3 months, 4.8 stars, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) proves you ship consumer creative products with premium craft expectations. The differentiator: you've built consumer products where the interface translates non-expert intent into expert-quality output.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Reopened Head of Design or US-remote/SF-accessible Staff role.

42. Synthesia. Enterprise AI video creation platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series E, $200M at $4B valuation, $536M total, 900+ employees.
    • Offices: London (HQ), Copenhagen, Munich, New York.
    • Value chain: Midstream AI video infrastructure for enterprise.
    • Best at: Enterprise-grade AI video that replaced professional video production for training and communications.
    • Signals: Design hiring activity observed on careers page — a staff-level enterprise product design position centered in London. No direct ATS link available for the specific posting. The role scope validates the mandate exists; the blocker is geography.
    • Tier: AI-native. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — current posting is geo-locked.
    • Portfolio match: Enterprise video workflow has a review-before-publish pattern plus an identity-consent layer (the avatar represents a real person). Allē's dual-surface work (provider identity on one side, consumer trust on the other, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is the lead — you've designed for asymmetric identity relationships. The Trust essay's mandate maintenance addresses avatar representation that drifts from the person's actual communication style.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-remote equivalent of the London senior design role.

43. Snyk. Developer security platform for finding and fixing vulnerabilities.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series G+, $1B+ raised, ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: Boston, London, Tel Aviv, distributed.
    • Value chain: Midstream developer security tooling.
    • Best at: Developer-first security that integrates into the developer workflow.
    • Signals: Has a Staff Product Designer opening in Portugal (Oct 1). Fresh posting, qualifying level, wrong geography.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — current posting is geo-locked.
    • Portfolio match: Vulnerability prioritization — which security issues matter most, what should the developer fix first — is a triage problem. Thermo Fisher mySupply's exception-first triage (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is the match: helping a professional user focus on the highest-consequence items in a large queue where the prioritization logic needs to be transparent.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible equivalent of the Portugal Staff Product Designer role.

44. Intercom. Customer service and support platform with AI-first messaging.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $200M+ raised, ~1,000 employees.
    • Offices: San Francisco, Dublin (HQ), London, Sydney.
    • Value chain: Downstream customer-service application.
    • Best at: AI-first customer service that resolves conversations without human intervention.
    • Signals: Has Staff/Principal product design openings in London and Dublin. Qualifying level, but centered outside the US despite having an SF office.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — current postings are geo-locked.
    • Portfolio match: The most commercially mature version of the Trust essay's supervision framework: when does the AI resolve autonomously, when does it escalate, and how does the customer know the difference? The Trust essay's Watch-Verify-Delegate ladder maps to Intercom's resolution tiers. You designed the escalation boundary in production agent systems at TinyFish and understand that the handoff moment determines whether the customer trusts the system going forward.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible equivalent of the London/Dublin Staff/Principal roles. Given Intercom's SF office, this is plausible.

45. n8n. Workflow automation and AI agent orchestration platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, $180M (Oct 2025), $240M total. SAP investment valued it at $5.2B (May 2026).
    • Offices: Berlin (HQ). Germany-centered hiring.
    • Value chain: Midstream automation infrastructure.
    • Best at: Open-source workflow automation that developers trust.
    • Signals: Has a Product Design Manager and Senior/Staff Product Designer in Germany. Both geo-locked.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — current postings are geo-locked.
    • Portfolio match: Agent orchestration with a developer audience that expects more configurability and transparency than consumer tools. The workflow's complexity outpaces the interface's ability to explain what happened — a legibility gap that compounds with each chained step. Your forward-looking artifact work on agent infrastructure as UX was built for this. You've seen this gap from both the developer side (TinyFish) and the application side (Agentic Labs).
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible senior design seat. The mandate exists; the geography doesn't.

46. Adyen. Global payment infrastructure for enterprise merchants.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (AMS: ADYEN), ~4,000 employees. Strong trajectory.
    • Offices: Amsterdam (HQ), San Francisco, New York, London, 25+ offices globally.

    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: Merchant operations — risk management, transaction monitoring, dispute resolution — is an enterprise operations platform. Alibaba's B2B platform ($50B+ GMV) is the direct match for enterprise merchant-operations design at scale. Lead with Alibaba.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible senior product design mandate for risk and merchant operations.

47. Klarna. Consumer payments, shopping, and financial services platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO, ~$15B valuation (2024 secondary-market estimates), ~3,500 employees.
    • Offices: Stockholm (HQ), New York, London, Berlin, globally distributed.
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer fintech.
    • Best at: Buy-now-pay-later that became a shopping platform.
    • Signals: No qualifying Bay-accessible role with meaningful product authority found. Klarna has aggressively replaced design headcount with AI — evaluate design influence carefully.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 1, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no active posting. ⚠️ Design influence ceiling is a concern given public statements about AI replacing designers.
    • Portfolio match: If Klarna hires for its AI shopping assistant, the design problem is recommendation trust. Allē's dual-surface work (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) covers platforms with business-model tension. But evaluate design influence ceiling before investing outreach time — Klarna's public posture on AI replacing designers is a warning signal.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Bay-accessible role with meaningful product authority. Evaluate design influence ceiling before pursuing.

48. Monzo. Mobile-first consumer bank.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $500M+ raised, ~3,000 employees.
    • Offices: London (HQ).
    • Value chain: Downstream consumer banking.
    • Best at: Mobile banking UX that set the standard for neobanks.
    • Signals: No US presence or US-remote design hiring found.
    • Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting. Geographic mismatch.
    • Portfolio match: The bar is high — Monzo's design team is one of the strongest in fintech. Lead with Allē's measurable consumer engagement (30M members, 3.2× redemption, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) and Equinox+ for consumer craft credentials (4.8 stars, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV).
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-remote or US product expansion accompanied by senior design hiring. Geographic mismatch is the primary blocker.

49. Canva. Visual communication and design platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $40B+ valuation, 5,000+ employees globally, 300+ in the US.
    • Offices: Sydney (HQ), Austin, San Francisco, globally distributed. US positions include some remote.
    • Value chain: Downstream creative tool platform.
    • Best at: Democratizing design at a scale no competitor has matched.
    • Signals: No qualifying US Staff/Director product design role found. SF hub exists, so geography isn't the primary blocker — role level and scope are.
    • Tier: Enterprise platform. Playbook read deferred.
    • Rubric scores: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role: not scored — no qualifying US posting.
    • Portfolio match: AI design features face the controllability problem: users need to steer AI generation toward precise visual outcomes. Your forward-looking artifact work on intent-based interaction addresses this. Brand Pulse's monitoring patterns cover brand consistency across AI-generated content.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Qualifying US Staff/Director role. Bay-accessible — SF hub exists.

50. Dovetail. Research repository and AI synthesis platform for product teams.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Series B+, ~$100M+ raised, ~200 employees.
    • Offices: Sydney (HQ). US team described as remote-first.
    • Value chain: Midstream research infrastructure.
    • Best at: Making qualitative research data searchable and synthesizable.
    • Signals: Current Senior Product Designer opening centered in Sydney. US remote team exists but this role isn't posted for it.
    • Tier: Growth-stage platform. Playbook read deferred.

You've designed surfaces that let users trace automated conclusions back to their source.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-remote Staff/Director seat.

6. Design leadership departure or operating-model reset

The hardest triggers to predict and the hardest to act on quickly. Set alerts on the design leader's LinkedIn profile, not just the company's job board. When a departure or reorg happens, there's a narrow window before the company decides whether to backfill, restructure, or upgrade the role. Reach the remaining design leadership or the product leader within the first week — before the company has decided what they want, when you can still influence how they think about the role.

    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior mandate for authentication, condition, and buyer trust design.

7. Public filing or attributable IPO preparation

Late-stage companies where an IPO filing would change the equity calculus and trigger design hiring to polish customer-facing surfaces. A public S-1 or confirmed timetable is the trigger — not speculation or bank selection alone. When it fires, the timing advantage is real but the equity window may already be narrowing. Re-score the stage/equity dimension immediately and evaluate whether the remaining upside justifies the role.

    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: An adjuster reviewing an AI-flagged claim needs to understand why the system flagged it. The Trust essay's dual-failure diagnosis applies: is the flag a false positive (prediction mismatch) or did the system exceed its authority by auto-denying (authority violation)? The Red Cross disaster relief disbursement (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is your proof of designing appeals layers where contested decisions have real financial consequences.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: US-accessible senior role for review, appeal, and model-transparency design.

9. AI acquisition followed by product-integration hiring

These companies have made AI acquisitions or partnerships but haven't staffed the design side of the integration. The timing is tricky: too early and the integration team hasn't figured out what they need; too late and they've already hired internally or restructured around existing staff. Watch for the design posting 3–6 months after the acquisition closes.

    • Portfolio match: When AI agents handle financial-services workflows (compliance, KYC, transaction monitoring), the human operator needs to understand what the agent did and verify it before the action becomes final. CarrierIQ's approval gate is the match. Thermo Fisher's pharma workflow (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) proves you've designed in regulated environments where verification is non-negotiable.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Staff/Director design role created by the WorkFusion integration — specifically for agentic financial-services automation design.

    • Portfolio match: AI-assisted security operations create a dual-failure problem: was the security alert a false positive (prediction mismatch) or did the system auto-remediate without authorization (authority violation)? The Trust essay's dual-failure diagnosis governs this. The analyst needs to diagnose which failure occurred before deciding how to respond.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Senior design mandate created by AI platform integration or acquisition.

    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: If Appian acquires or builds AI orchestration capabilities, the design problem is helping regulated-industry users build AI workflows without code while maintaining compliance. Alibaba's enterprise platform redesign covers configuration surfaces for enterprise operators at scale. You've shipped in regulated environments (Thermo Fisher, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV).
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: AI orchestration acquisition or partnership followed by design leadership hiring.

    • Portfolio match: When the system can't confidently extract a field and needs human review, the exception queue becomes the primary work surface. Thermo Fisher mySupply's exception-first triage (completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) is the match — you've designed the surface where humans handle what automation couldn't.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Acquisition or major platform integration followed by Staff/Director product design role.

    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: AI acquisition or integration followed by senior agent-operations design hiring.

10. Genuine IC product-design cluster

These companies haven't posted a qualifying senior role, but they're the type to post multiple mid-level design roles before a leadership or Staff-level search. Two or more distinct product-design postings within 14 days historically precede a Director+ or Staff search by 4–8 weeks. Watch for the cluster, not the individual posting. When you see two mid-level design roles appear at the same company within two weeks, start preparing outreach for the leadership role that hasn't been posted yet. By the time it goes live, you should already know who the hiring manager is.

    • Portfolio match: Proving that a container image is what it claims to be, built from verified sources, is the most literal application of provenance design in the entire inventory. CarrierIQ's provenance chain is the match — and here the provenance display doubles as the security mechanism, not just a review step before action.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Cluster of product-design roles around developer trust and provenance.

95. Braze. Customer engagement and messaging platform.

    • Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: BRZE), ~1,800 employees.

    • Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role: not scored — no active posting.
    • Portfolio match: The marketer needs to review AI-generated messages before they're sent to millions of consumers. Allē's engagement metrics (3.2× redemption, $42 CAC, completed as Product Design Director at BCG DV) are the proof — you designed marketing surfaces where the design decisions drove real business results.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Verified cluster around AI personalization, orchestration, and review.

    • Portfolio match: The system decides what in-app message to show which user at what moment — the product team sets the rules, the AI executes. This is the Trust essay's delegation framework: the product team defines the mandate, and the system operates within it. You understand delegation design from TinyFish agent deployments.
    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Two distinct product-design seats followed by a leadership mandate.

    • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Cluster involving candidate evaluation or responsible AI design.

The user's trust in the ranking determines whether they act on it.
     • Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: Verified product-design cluster followed by Staff/Director hiring.
