# On Deck

> Ground Truth follows AI as it's actually built, funded, and shipped: consumer assistants, vertical products from legal and healthcare to agriculture, and the capital moving behind them. It's written for practitioners who've shipped agentic systems and want more than press releases. It reads interaction models, architectures, trust patterns, and funding logic to judge which companies are serious, and where it's worth building next.

## Issue 17

We got one thing wrong, and it changed how we read everything else in here. We'd had Brex down as a startup, with startup equity. Capital One closed on it back in April, so any stock in a Brex offer is bank stock now, and our tracker never caught it. Once we started asking who actually owns a company, the question kept turning up, right down to a radiology AI marketplace on its third owner. Before you weigh any role this week, find out who issues the shares.

### [Signal Watch](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/signal-watch/markdown>)

Your search signals, informed by landscape intelligence

- [EvolutionIQ Closes First and Stripe Is the Week's Only Act](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/signal-watch/article/50912/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22 · Format: Priority Action Queue

Five roles make this week's apply list, and the first deadline is Monday, October 26. That one belongs to EvolutionIQ's agentic-platform role, the closest match to your agentic work, so it goes ahead of Stripe Checkout even though Stripe holds the week's only committed Act verdict.

- [Active Targets, Re-Scored by Who Actually Issues the Equity](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/signal-watch/article/50957/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22 · Format: The 100 List

The company on a job post and the company that issues your equity can be two different companies. Brex has belonged to Capital One since April. On Oct 15, EvolutionIQ's parent, CCC, agreed to a take-private that converts unvested RSUs into cash at a fixed $7.75 a share.

- [Legora's Series E Arrived After Its New York Design Seat Was Already Open](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/signal-watch/article/50985/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22 · Format: The Inflection Point

Legora announced its Series E on October 21. The design seat a round like that usually opens was already posted on October 7: a Staff Product Designer, on-site in Manhattan, pitched as the New York office's first designer.

- **Gusto: five Staff openings plus a design recruiter** — [Source](<https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/gusto/jobs/8281363>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

The Staff Product Designer posting went up October 15, so it is day 7 and hot. One requisition covers five openings across Money, Banking and HR, at $177K–$222K base plus RSUs. A design recruiter posting followed October 19. That points to more hiring volume. It does not point to a leadership vacancy. The verdict is in This Week's Moves.

- **Legora: $550M Series E starts the funding clock** — [Source](<https://legora.com/newsroom/legora-raises-550-million-series-e-at-8.8-billion-valuation-to-accelerate-growth>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Legora announced the round October 21 at $8.8B post-money, led by Atreides. Axios confirms the figures, so confidence is high. Today is day 2 of 14. The stated uses are expansion and the legal agent platform. A search index shows a first-designer Staff ad in New York, but I can't confirm it is live or when it posted. Scoring is in New on Radar.

- **RapidCanvas: hot funding, no design requisition yet** — [Source](<https://www.rapidcanvas.ai/newsroom/rapidcanvas-raises-29m-series-b-to-bring-fortune-100-grade-ai-to-every-enterprise>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

RapidCanvas announced a $29M Series B October 16, and Axios reported it independently. It is day 6 and stays hot through about October 30. The company earmarked the money for the platform and for field AI engineers. Its careers page shows no senior design role. Hold it at watch-for-trigger and act only if a design posting appears.

- **Atlassian: same requisition, now a Senior Director** — [Source](<https://www.atlassian.com/company/careers/details/24872>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

On October 11 we logged Senior Design Manager, Jira AI as gone. Requisition 24872 is back as Senior Director, Jira Design. The role covers up to ten designers, asks for 10+ years leading teams, and pays $221K–$289K base in Atlassian's highest US pay zone. Withdraw "absent" and treat it as a new search. Candidates from the manager-level version may still be in the pipeline.

- **Brex: Capital One closed the acquisition in April** — [Source](<https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/927628/000119312526145764/d85207d8k.htm>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Capital One's SEC filing puts the close at April 7, 2026, so confidence is high. Brex is now a subsidiary. That removes the pre-IPO equity case that put it on the priority scan. Its Staff Product Designer, AI ad dates to July 8. The newer dates on aggregators belong to reposts of that same ad. The re-score is in Active Targets.

- **Amplitude: Head of Product Design link still dead** — [Source](<https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/amplitude/jobs/8622704002>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

The July 7 posting first returned a 404 on October 16 and still does. At day 107 it sits well past the 43-day retirement line. A 404 can't tell you whether the search was filled, frozen or cancelled. Retire the signal and wait for a new trigger, such as a fresh posting or an announced hire.

- **OpenAI Consumer Verticals: today is the last hot day** — [Source](<https://openai.com/careers/product-designer-consumer-verticals-san-francisco/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

This role was first dated October 1 and covers health, finance and consumer-agent experiences. It reaches day 21 today and drops to Watch tomorrow. The page lists no level, no hiring manager and no pipeline status. If you planned to reach out, do it today. From tomorrow it competes with every other Watch item.

- **Stripe: Link post lapsed, Checkout still hot** — [Source](<https://stripe.com/careers/listing/staff-product-designer-checkout/8268059>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

The October 3 "I'm hiring" post promoting the Link role passed the 15-day retirement line on October 18. Today is day 19. The Link requisition itself dates to September 2025, so it was never a fresh signal. Staff Product Designer, Checkout is a separate posting from October 9. It is day 13 and still hot. Track the two separately.

- **Anthropic: three September roles slide into Watch** — [Source](<https://boards-api.greenhouse.io/v1/boards/anthropic/jobs>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Three September roles are past the 21-day hot line: Design Systems (day 30), Safeguards (day 27) and Developer Platform (day 24). Safeguards was edited October 19, but that edit doesn't reset its September post date. Product Designer, Growth was posted October 8. It is day 14 and still hot, so file it apart from the other three.

The strongest agent-infrastructure mandate on this list. The posting requires managing managers; confirm your record shows that.

- **Databricks Staff Designer, AI Products: agent-driven workflows, but NYC pay tops out at $229K** — [Source](<https://boards-api.greenhouse.io/v1/boards/databricks/jobs/8584704002>) — Published 2026-10-22

AI tools, assistants, and platforms worth understanding

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Meta's Muse and Amazon's Bee each keep a running picture of you, built from chats, files and connected apps. Some of it stops being true: a trip that has ended, a move that already happened. This year OpenAI and Anthropic both shipped ways for their assistants to update outdated memories on their own. Neither shows you when a memory changed or where it came from. I read six products' documentation and a year of user reports to see what each keeps, what it lets that memory steer, and who can retire it.

**Bottom line: a real new way to use AI, and weak at bringing you back to it. Moderate confidence.**

- [When an AI Assistant Saves You Work, Who Picks It Up?](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/horizontal-ai/article/51159/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22

AI assistants call restaurants and fill shopping carts. Someone on the other end handles each request: a store, a restaurant, a group-chat friend, a person being recorded. That person, the **counterparty**, absorbs the work the assistant saves.

- **ElevenLabs sells the whole voice stack as one model** — [Source](<https://lapaasvoice.com/elevenlabs-launches-two-eleven-realtime-ai-models-for-natural-voice-conversations/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Eleven Realtime handles listening, reasoning, turn-taking and speech in one managed model. It comes in a cheap Mini tier and a tool-calling Max tier. The API mirrors OpenAI's Realtime endpoint, so testing it means changing an endpoint. **Structural.** The 0.57-second latency is ElevenLabs' own figure.

- **Voxtral 3 keeps each voice stage separate** — [Source](<https://the-decoder.com/mistral-ai-launches-voxtral-3-a-full-voice-agent-stack-that-listens-thinks-and-talks-in-real-time/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Mistral ships speech-to-text, text-to-speech and a voice-agent SDK as distinct parts. Agents can call tools mid-conversation and run on your own servers or on EU-hosted APIs. Some coverage calls it "one pipeline." Mistral's own wording keeps the stages swappable. **Structural**, and the opposite bet from ElevenLabs.

- **Gemini Enterprise app now offers Anthropic models** — [Source](<https://docs.cloud.google.com/gemini/enterprise/docs/release-notes>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Google's release notes list Anthropic models inside the Gemini Enterprise app as of October 15. Google's own assistant serving a direct competitor's models is **potentially structural**, at moderate confidence. The note cuts off before admin controls, the model list and scope. Treat those details as unconfirmed.

- **Gemini-built apps now publish straight to Google Sites** — [Source](<https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2026/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Since October 19, apps built in the Gemini app publish directly to Google Sites, including from personal accounts. Muse paused sharing on this same generated-app-to-public-page path. Its shared pages turned up in passive DNS records, logs of which web addresses get looked up. Google hasn't documented visibility or indexing defaults. **Incremental.** Check those defaults before you publish anything real.

- **Kling 4.0 takes up to fifteen reference inputs** — [Source](<https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/kling-ai-officially-launches-next-185000472.html>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Omni Reference accepts images, video clips, subjects and voices in one generation job, up to 15 total. That part is **structural**. You direct a shot by choosing its inputs, which gives you far more control than rewording a prompt. 10-bit HDR and 8,000-token prompts are incremental quality gains. Every spec comes from Kuaishou, Kling's parent company.

Firefly lists GPT Image, FLUX, Nano Banana, Veo 3.1 Fast, Kling 3.0, Luma and Runway next to Adobe's own models, with Kling 4.0 marked as coming. Adobe pitches its own models on commercial safety and the partner models on choice. This pattern has held since February. **Incremental** this week.

Shared folders launched in alpha for collaboration. Midjourney's changelog says images made in a private folder can still show up on Explore and your profile unless stealth mode, the setting that hides them from public view, is on. Midjourney discloses this and calls the feature an early version. **Incremental.** Turn on stealth for client work.

Microsoft's legal plugin for Word is on by default for commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers, and admins control it separately. Suki's Series E funds agents for referrals, prior authorizations and follow-ups. Healthcare Dive describes them as planned. What Suki ships today is documentation. Ambient scribing is crowded and trial results vary by product, so vendors are moving toward payer-facing work. Read: static until the agents ship.

Behavox sells compliance surveillance to banks, asset managers and hedge funds. Apiax converts regulation into machine-readable rules. The October 8 deal, terms undisclosed, is pitched as one evidence trail from a rule change to the surveillance record. No customer has shown it working. Read: accelerating through consolidation (moderate confidence).

IFS's Industrial AI Harness wraps agents across IFS Cloud in permissions, verification, escalation to humans and observability. Honeywell's Forge Cognition has an autonomous mode, but Honeywell's CTO told Fortune full autonomy was off at launch. Both lead with supervised agents. Read: accelerating, with physical autonomy held back on purpose.

Saga Ventures led Stand's $70M Series C at a $1B valuation. Stand underwrites property policies issued by partner carriers and prices risk with digital twins of each property. Sixfold sells software that ranks which broker submissions underwriters see first. Neither shows underwriting results. Read: accelerating, splitting into full-stack underwriters and triage tools.

Google's Merchant Center setup for UCP, its protocol for shopping agents, offers two paths. Cart transfer sends the shopper back to the merchant to pay. Native checkout completes the sale on Google. Identity linking is still "coming soon." Shopify keeps shopper confirmation at checkout. Read: accelerating at the protocol layer.

Valtra now offers PerPlant's camera sensor as a factory option in selected European markets. The sensor maps crops so the machine can spot-spray and vary input rates. Distribution depends on equipment makers signing on. Savings are company claims, with no multi-season data. Read: static; watch for more manufacturer deals.

French company Dougs acts as the accountant itself, holding the small-business client and carrying responsibility for regulated work. That adds a fourth model beside bookkeeping software, tools sold to firms, and firm roll-ups. Its investor cites 50,000 customers and €50M ARR. Accountant-signed agentic statements are still roadmap. Blackford Analysis lets a hospital run imaging-AI tools from dozens of vendors through one contract and one connection. It has had three owners since 2023. This month the investment firm Sopris Capital bought it and moved it into its portfolio company, Azra AI, which announced completion on October 20.

Otter sold no shares for its $320 million from General Catalyst. In GC's standard structure, this money is repaid from the customers it wins, and GC funds it only after studying years of customer data. Otter's terms are undisclosed, but the deal is strong evidence its past customers were steady. It says much less about the enterprise and international buyers the money now targets. Part 1 of two, paired with Town's equity round.

Town raised $108 million in equity at a $1 billion valuation, four months after launching its AI assistant. That's too little customer history for the repayable financing Otter took in part 1, so investors carry the risk instead. What they're pricing is a network of assistants coordinating across companies. Town's price list doesn't charge for that network, and its documentation doesn't say how assistants at different companies resolve conflicts.

OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio on Oct 20, terms undisclosed. Orchestra's agents coordinate the steps of running a drug program, and OpenAI is folding them into Rosalind, its life-sciences line. GPT-Rosalind shipped in April, and science lead Kevin Weil left days later. OpenAI's next move was to buy workflow software instead of more research capacity, which points at pharma's operating budgets: the money spent running trials and programs. **Moderate confidence.** There is no outcome data yet.

Kevin Weil's Warp launched Oct 22 with $215M at an $865M post-money valuation. Lightspeed led, and there is no public product. Warp is building an automated US lab for the chemistry work pharma now outsources to contract firms like WuXi AppTec. Its chemists will wear sensor gloves so their work becomes model training data. At this stage, investors are pricing the founder and the thesis.

Duvo's $32M Series A was **announced Oct 14, just before this window.** Duvo maps how a team actually works from employee interviews, screen recordings and documents. It then carries out the approved steps across ERP systems, supplier portals, spreadsheets and inboxes. It is the period's only retail and consumer-goods operations deal. There are no named customers yet, and Duvo supplied its own savings figures.

- **Tether funds agent payments sold on spending limits** — [Source](<https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/10/21/tether-leads-usd15-million-series-a-for-ai-focused-payment-startup-mural>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tether, the stablecoin issuer, led Mural's $15M Series A on Oct 21. That brings Mural's total funding to $28M. The founders are ex-Palantir, and Deel and Opera are customers. Mural's pitch is controls: per-transaction caps, limits on whom an agent can pay, and human approval above a set amount. No one has reported how much payment volume agents actually originate. Mural has an open agentic-workflow design role, which suggests design owns that control surface.

The AI chip designer raised $1.5B at a $6.2B post-money valuation, led by Trace Capital and Innovation X. Axios, citing a May Bloomberg report, says Intel and Qualcomm both pursued Tenstorrent earlier this year. The round keeps it independent and pays to scale manufacturing for its chip-licensing and server businesses. Tether invested here too, its second infrastructure bet this week. No revenue or utilization figures are public.

- **Boomi pays $40M+ for a seventeen-person data-trust team** — [Source](<https://www.inquirer.com/business/artificial-intelligence-data-agents-startup-merger-20261019.html>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Integration incumbent Boomi agreed to buy Elementary Data, which makes tools that flag broken or stale data pipelines. The price works out to roughly $2.4M per employee. It is Boomi's third Israeli AI acquisition in two years. Boomi's stated rationale is that agents acting at machine speed need data they can trust. Salesforce's pending Loops deal, **announced Oct 12**, is another incumbent buying a monitoring layer.

Baba pairs clinical staff with agents to guide seniors through Medicare. Its $40M Series A (Oct 20) funds clinicians, AI research and health-plan partnerships. CVS Health Ventures joining signals payer-side interest, since CVS owns Aetna. Baba also released BabaBench to evaluate agentic Medicare workflows, but no source says who governs it. Treat it as positioning until outside teams adopt it. No valuation was disclosed.

Chapter sells Medicare guidance through licensed advisors. On Oct 22 it bought Ridgeway to get founder Hamza Mostafa, formerly of OpenAI, and his engineers. Terms are undisclosed; Ridgeway had raised $2.8M. Read it alongside Baba. That makes two Medicare deals in 48 hours, and both keep licensed humans facing the customer with AI behind them. **Moderate confidence** on the pattern, given only two data points.

The $232M figure adds seed and Series A together. Robotics is still a prototype; the time-savings numbers are Anduril's and have not been measured independently.
