# EvolutionIQ Closes First and Stripe Is the Week's Only Act

*By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>)*

*October 22, 2026*

[Read on the website](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/signal-watch/article/50912/evolutioniq-closes-first-and-stripe-is-the-weeks>)

**Scan window: October 16–22, 2026.** This queue holds until next Thursday. The first hard deadline is **Monday, October 26.**

**Apply in this order:**

1. **EvolutionIQ** by **Oct 26**. Closest match to your agentic work, and the shortest clock.
2. **Stripe** by **Oct 28**. The strongest role on the list, light on AI.
3. **ServiceNow** by **Oct 29**.
4. **Gusto** by **Nov 5**.
5. **Samsara** only if you have capacity left.

Stripe is the only role with a committed Act verdict. EvolutionIQ goes ahead of it on timing alone, because its window closes four days earlier.

**Hold, don't apply:** Anthropic Growth, Peregrine. **Deprioritized:** Atlassian Jira.

**The week's biggest change:** On October 15, CCC, which owns EvolutionIQ, agreed to be bought by private investors and delisted. Existing CCC awards convert to fixed cash at $7.75, so that equity has no upside left. Details in the EvolutionIQ entry.

## Where the scores come from

Every score below is the committed number from the October 16 [Active Targets](https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/16/signal-watch/article/45880) tracker, the sister section that owns scoring. [Last week's queue](https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/16/signal-watch/article/45859) carried different numbers for ServiceNow and Stripe. When the two disagree, Active Targets wins. Anthropic Growth and the re-levelled Atlassian seat have no committed role score, so I'm marking them unscored. Legora is in New on Radar this issue.

## The queue at a glance

Ordered by tier, then score. The apply order above follows deadlines.

| Role | Tier | Company / Role | Hot until | The drawback, and whether it moves the verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe, Staff PD, Checkout | Act Now | 11 / 12, Act | Oct 30 | AI appears only as a prototyping skill. No change. |
| EvolutionIQ, Staff PD, Agentic Platform | Act Soon | 9 / 12, Watch | Oct 26 | Existing CCC RSUs convert to fixed cash at close; a new hire's grant terms are unknown. Confirms the Watch hold. |
| ServiceNow, Sr. Staff PD, AI/ML | Act Soon | 8 / 14, Watch | Oct 29 | Product unnamed, but every candidate is AI. No change. |
| Gusto, Staff PD (5 seats) | Act Soon | 7 / 11, Watch | Nov 5 | Cash range dips below your floor; equity doesn't compensate. No change. |
| Samsara, Staff PD | Act Soon | 7 / 11, Watch | Nov 2 | AI language covers your workflow, not the product. No change. |
| Anthropic, PD, Growth | Watch | 12 / unscored | Oct 29 | Requires growth-experiment method you haven't published. Sits at Watch on company score alone; hold. |
| Peregrine, Staff PD | Watch | Watch by override (First Look) | Nov 3 | No sign design owns AI behavior. Confirms the override. |
| Atlassian, Sr. Director, Jira Design | Deprioritize | Unscored | ~16-week-old req | Requires 10+ years of design leadership. Decisive. |

## Act Now

### Stripe, Staff Product Designer for Checkout

- **What changed:** The [posting](https://stripe.com/careers/listing/staff-product-designer-checkout/8268059) went live October 9. Scope covers interaction and visual design, the design system, and early-stage product strategy for Checkout.
- **Why it matters:** It's the week's only committed Act, and the strategy language is real: this seat helps decide what gets built. Staff postings rarely give that.
- **Landscape context:** Stripe treats AI as a primary strategic bet (AI centrality scored 2), yet this posting mentions AI only as a prototyping skill. Nothing in it touches model behavior, agent permissions, or automation thresholds. Checkout is where any purchase an AI agent makes would eventually land, so the AI scope could grow, but that's speculative and you shouldn't count on it.
- **Rubric:** 11 / 12. Company: stage 3, design influence 3, trajectory 3. Role: comp 3, scope 3, craft 3, portfolio 2, AI exposure 1.
- **Drawback ruling, AI exposure: does not change the verdict.** Last week's role range of 11–13 reflected uncertainty about AI scope plus a scope score of 2. The posting settles AI at 1, which matches what Active Targets already had. With Active Targets' scope of 3, the role total of 12 still clears Act; on last week's scope figure it would be 11. Comp, scope, and craft carry this one. Go in knowing the case study you'd walk out with is about payments design rather than agent design.
- **Confidence:** High on what the posting says. Moderate on what it leaves out, since a posting can't rule out AI work arriving later.
- **Window:** Day 13 of 21. Hot through October 30.
- **Recommendation:** Apply by **October 28.**

## Act Soon

### EvolutionIQ, Staff Product Designer for the Agentic Platform

- **What changed:** The [posting](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/evolutioniq/jobs/6216739004) went live October 5 and was revised October 9. On October 15, parent company CCC [agreed to a take-private deal](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1818201/000119312526422326/d140608ddefa14a.htm) with an investor group led by GTCR, with Elliott participating. Shareholders receive $7.75 per share. Close is expected Q1 2027.
- **Why it matters:** This is almost exactly your domain. The role covers how an insurance-claims AI handles uncertainty, what it automates, when a human takes over, and how it recovers from errors. AI exposure and craft both score the maximum 3.
- **Landscape context:** EvolutionIQ is an acquired team inside a larger parent, a setup we flagged in [Issue 15](https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/15/signal-watch/article/42772): design authority in acquired units tends to depend on what the parent actually lets them decide. Leadership has held so far. Co-CEO Mike Saltzman was still in role in a [January 2026 interview](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-michael-saltzman-built-evolutioniq-to-win-in-enterprise/id1846867433?i=1000746994342), and CPO Benjamin Berry [published on September 24](https://www.evolutioniq.com/resources/rethinking-the-tradeoff-between-efficiency-outcomes-and-claimant-experience). Nothing public shows who holds decision rights inside CCC, and CCC itself is now changing owners.
- **Rubric:** 9 / 12, committed at Watch. The totals clear the Act threshold, but Active Targets published Watch. The open risks our coverage attached to this role were acquirer-issued equity and the designer's authority inside the parent. I'm not re-scoring. Stage becomes Active Targets' call once the deal closes.
- **Drawback ruling, acquirer-issued equity: settled for existing awards, and it confirms the Watch hold.**
  - EvolutionIQ staff have been paid in CCC RSUs. CCC's [10-K](https://ir.cccis.com/static-files/0a457250-19de-4f1a-a605-6f66a5a63cd5) records 5.7 million granted as part of the acquisition.
  - CCC's [employee FAQ](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1818201/000119312526423029/d150528ddefa14a.htm) says unvested RSUs convert at close into restricted cash awards at $7.75 per share, paid on the original vesting schedule.
  - If your grant follows existing awards, it becomes **deferred cash at a fixed price, with no upside.** At best, treat any equity as a cash supplement on top of the $210–230K base. Comp stays at 2.
  - Until last week the equity half of the hold was an unknown; it's now a known discount. The authority question remains open. So the design problem is Act quality, and the package, now documented in the filings, is what keeps the role at Watch. Push on timing, and don't walk in expecting an Act-grade offer.
  - The filings say nothing about what someone hired between signing and close would receive.
- **Confidence:** High on deal terms (SEC filings). Speculative on what the new owners do with open requisitions.
- **Window:** Day 17 of 21. Hot through **October 26.**
- **Recommendation:** Apply by **October 26.** Buyers sometimes freeze requisitions opened before a deal. That's a pattern I've watched rather than evidence about this req, but it argues for moving now.

### ServiceNow, Sr. Staff Product Designer in AI/ML

- **What changed:** The [posting](https://careers.servicenow.com/jobs/744000154513541/sr-staff-product-designer-aiml/) went live October 8. It combines strategy and hands-on design for an unnamed, early-stage AI product built on large datasets. Base: $190,900–$334,100.
- **Landscape context:** On October 15 ServiceNow launched [AI Passport](https://newsroom.servicenow.com/press-releases/details/2026/ServiceNow-advances-its-operational-harness-for-enterprise-AI-with-AI-Passport-and-expanded-governance-capabilities/default.aspx), a runtime credential that limits what an agent can do. It sits alongside AI Control Tower, an inventory of the AI systems a company runs. Together they're ServiceNow's bid to own enterprise AI oversight, with identity, permissions, and inventory in one place.
- **Rubric:** 8 / 14, Watch. Last week showed 9 / 12–15. Same tier either way.
- **Drawback ruling, unnamed product: does not change the verdict.** Every product this could plausibly be has AI at its core, so AI exposure holds at 3. The dataset language reads more like [AI Data Kit](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/intelligent-experiences/now-assist-data-kit/exploring-now-assist-data-kit.html) (data prep, synthetic data, evaluation) than Passport. When you weigh this against EvolutionIQ, assume the work is data and evaluation tooling rather than agent permissions.
- **Confidence:** High on the posting. Moderate on the product mapping.
- **Window:** Day 14. Hot through October 29.
- **Recommendation:** Apply by **October 29**, after EvolutionIQ.

### Gusto, Staff Product Designer across five seats

- **What changed:** One [posting](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/gusto/jobs/8281363), live October 15 and revised October 20, covers five openings. The work is uncertainty handling, customer control, and human override inside money, banking, and HR flows.
- **Landscape context:** Usually a company talks more AI than the role delivers. Gusto runs the other way: it scores 1 on AI centrality, yet this posting describes real AI-control design. Revenue has passed $1B with [no announced IPO date](https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/07/gusto-hits-1b-revenue-a-figure-that-brings-it-closer-to-public-markets/).
- **Rubric:** 7 / 11, Watch. Comp 2, craft 3, AI exposure 2.
- **Drawback ruling, cash range of $177–222K: equity doesn't close the gap; verdict holds at Watch.** The last employee tender priced at [$9.3B in June 2025](https://fortune.com/2025/06/09/gusto-200-million-plus-tender-offer/) and was open only to staff with two years' tenure. A new hire has no established near-term way to sell, so judge the package on cash. The bottom half of the range sits under your $200K floor, which would drop comp to 1 and the role to 10. The verdict stays put, because Watch rests on the company score of 7 by itself.
- **Confidence:** High on the posting and cash band. Moderate on liquidity; I found no transaction newer than the 2025 tender.
- **Window:** Day 7. Hot through November 5.
- **Recommendation:** Apply before **November 5**, after ServiceNow.

### Samsara, Staff Product Designer

- **What changed:** The [posting](https://www.samsara.com/company/careers/roles/8275248?gh_jid=8275248) went live October 12. It asks for cross-product design, customer time, interaction design, and production code.
- **Landscape context:** Samsara is the public-company anchor of field and industrial AI. Stage scores 1 because it has already IPO'd; AI centrality scores 2.
- **Rubric:** 7 / 11, Watch.
- **Drawback ruling, AI as a work tool: already priced in.** The 2 on AI exposure is generous, since the posting's AI language describes your own workflow rather than anything you'd be designing. Even at 1, Watch holds on the company score of 7.
- **Confidence:** High; the posting is explicit about what it wants.
- **Window:** Day 10. Hot through November 2.
- **Recommendation:** Apply only after Gusto. Of the five, it adds the least to an agent-design portfolio.

## Watch

**Anthropic: Product Designer, Growth.** The [posting](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/anthropic/jobs/5446776008) went live October 8 at $305–460K, hot through October 29. Company 12 meets Watch on its own. The role is unscored; Anthropic's role score of 14 belongs to the Design Systems, Safeguards, and Developer Platform seats Active Targets tracks.

**Drawback ruling, growth specialism: Watch on the company score alone, and it's a hold.** The posting wants deep activation, retention, or expansion experience plus fluency designing and reading experiments. Your published work shows outcomes (+7% DAU and +20% daily transactions at Alibaba.com, 3.2× redemption at Alle). It doesn't show the experimental method behind them, or individual-to-team expansion. Screeners will likely read that as close but not a match, the same kind of capability gate we held on Anthropic in [Issue 11](https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/11/signal-watch/article/38372). **Escalates if** you ran experimentation programs your published work doesn't show and can document them honestly before October 29.

**Peregrine: Staff Product Designer.** Live October 13, hot through November 3. [First Look](https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/16/signal-watch/article/45882)'s numbers cleared the bar, but its committed verdict is a Watch override because AI ownership looked unstable.

**Drawback ruling, AI ownership: confirms the override.** The [posting](https://boards-api.greenhouse.io/v1/boards/peregrinetechnologies/jobs/4742065005) covers platform design, field research, strategy, and mentoring. It assigns nothing on model behavior, thresholds, evaluation, or recovery. My inference, moderate confidence: as an integration layer sitting over existing agency systems, Peregrine keeps AI decisions close to engineering. This is also why it stays on hold while Samsara gets an application. Samsara's limits are already baked into its committed score, whereas Peregrine's Watch depended on this single question, and the posting gives no sign the answer is yes. **Escalates if** a revised posting hands design that control.

## Deprioritize, plus the settled October 16 questions

- **Atlassian, Senior Director, Jira Design (#24872): deprioritize.** The req that was Senior Design Manager, Jira AI (dated July 3 on [The Muse](https://www.themuse.com/jobs/atlassian/senior-design-manager-jira-ai)) is now a [director seat](https://www.atlassian.com/company/careers/details/24872) leading up to ten designers through Jira's AI shift. Unscored. Aggregator [Alion](https://alion.io/job/atlassian-senior-director-jira-design) logged the director version October 16, unconfirmed by any archive, and Atlassian's October 22 stamp covers the whole page. Treat it as a roughly 16-week-old req that got bigger. What the change means is speculative; one reading is that the manager search didn't land and leadership decided Jira AI needs an executive, but nothing public confirms why the title changed. You could call the re-level a fresh signal, though only on an unconfirmed aggregator date, and the requirements make the point moot anyway: the posting lists 10+ years of design leadership as a must-have, and director-level screeners apply that literally. This is decisive unless your own count reaches ten. **Reopen if** it does and Active Targets commits a role score.
- **Atlassian's October 11 role score of 11: remove.** It belonged to a different req, Principal Product Designer, Jira (#27322). Don't carry it onto #24872.
- **Peregrine, "Does design own AI behavior?" Settled, as far as a posting can settle it: no sign it does.** See the Peregrine entry.
- **EvolutionIQ, "What is acquirer-issued equity worth?" Settled for existing awards: fixed cash at $7.75 on the original vesting schedule. What a new hire gets before close is still undisclosed.** See the EvolutionIQ entry.
- **Axon/Prepared, "Is the citizenship rule role-specific?" Settled: it's a gate.** The [application](https://boards-api.greenhouse.io/v1/boards/axon/jobs/8016225003?questions=true) still requires US citizenship or permanent residency, citing CJIS, the FBI's security policy for criminal-justice data. Whether it's role-specific or blanket policy no longer matters, since either way you have to meet it. The October 16 queue's Watch placement stands.
- **ServiceNow, "Is this AI Passport?" Retire.** Nothing ties the req to Passport, and the dataset language fits other products at least as well. See the ServiceNow entry.
- **Stripe, "AI in product or AI as tool?" Settled: tool.** See the Stripe entry.

<follow_up>

## Things to follow up on...

- **CCC's closing timeline:** Watch for regulatory and stockholder milestones on the GTCR-led take-private, because Reuters' [report on the $7.75-per-share agreement](https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/national/2026/10/16/889163.htm) puts closing in first-quarter 2027, and that is when EvolutionIQ's equity and requisition status get decided.
- **Gusto's dedicated design recruiter:** Gusto opened a [Staff Recruiter, Design & Specialized Tech role](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/gusto/jobs/8279911) on October 19 covering product design, design systems, research and design ops across levels, which signals more recruiting capacity but not yet a design leadership vacancy.
- **ServiceNow's governance stack:** The [AI Control Tower dataset documentation](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/intelligent-experiences/ai-control-tower/ai-datasets.html) shows how ServiceNow tracks dataset sources and ownership, and it is the closest public description of the large-dataset product area the unnamed Sr. Staff role may serve.
- **Atlassian's re-levelled Jira seat:** Check whether [requisition 24872](https://www.atlassian.com/company/careers/details/24872) changes again or drops its "10+ years in design leadership" requirement, since either change would be the first dated evidence of what the hiring team actually learned from the manager-level search.
