# On Deck

> Ground Truth follows AI as it's actually built, funded, and shipped: consumer assistants, vertical products from legal and healthcare to agriculture, and the capital moving behind them. It's written for practitioners who've shipped agentic systems and want more than press releases. It reads interaction models, architectures, trust patterns, and funding logic to judge which companies are serious, and where it's worth building next.

## Issue 17 — Vertical AI

How AI is reshaping industries, company by company

### Vertical Deep Dive

- [In Healthcare's Reference Layer, Hospital Integration Outranks the App and the Corpus](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/vertical-ai/article/51079/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22 · Format: Vertical Competitive Read

Between October 15 and 20, JAMA published usage data on 271 million questions clinicians asked OpenEvidence, OpenEvidence and Doximity settled their lawsuit, and Doximity announced it will show answers from UpToDate, the incumbent paid reference, beside its own.

### Company Map

- [AI in Finance Beyond Mortgages Is Three Markets, Each With Its Own Buyer](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/issue/17/vertical-ai/article/51007/markdown>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) · Published 2026-10-22

Mortgages got their own deep dive on October 16. Everything else sorts into three markets with different buyers and different regulators:

### Vertical Scan

One structural move per vertical this week. Most are attempts to own a point of control: the application professionals already work in, the step where a purchase completes, the machine that carries out the action, or the client relationship itself.

Check release status before you repeat any headline below. Several products are planned, gated, in early access or on a roadmap, and the announcements blur that. Independent outcome data is thin in every vertical.

The accelerating and static reads are my judgment; the sources don't assign them. Six verticals are moving. Healthcare is static because its shipped product is crowded and its new agents are unreleased. Agriculture is static because adoption travels through slow equipment channels.

Microsoft's legal plugin for Word is on by default for commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers, and admins control it separately. Harvey and Legora now sell against a tool already inside the document lawyers have open. PwC reports only 8% of top UK firms see meaningful returns. Read: accelerating on distribution, with returns unproven.

- **Suki raises $90M to build post-visit agents** — [Source](<https://www.healthcaredive.com/news/suki-raises-90m-in-series-e-round-to-create-ai-agents/832862/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tag: Healthcare

Suki's Series E funds agents for referrals, prior authorizations and follow-ups. Healthcare Dive describes them as planned. What Suki ships today is documentation. Ambient scribing is crowded and trial results vary by product, so vendors are moving toward payer-facing work. Read: static until the agents ship.

- **Behavox buys Apiax to own the compliance trail** — [Source](<https://www.behavox.com/news/2026-behavox-acquires-apiax>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tag: Finance

Behavox sells compliance surveillance to banks, asset managers and hedge funds. Apiax converts regulation into machine-readable rules. The October 8 deal, terms undisclosed, is pitched as one evidence trail from a rule change to the surveillance record. No customer has shown it working. Read: accelerating through consolidation (moderate confidence).

- **IFS and Honeywell ship agents, hold back autonomy** — [Source](<https://fortune.com/2026/10/14/honeywell-technologies-brain-behind-the-bulding-forge-cognition-dell-nvidia/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tag: Field & Industrial

IFS's Industrial AI Harness wraps agents across IFS Cloud in permissions, verification, escalation to humans and observability. Honeywell's Forge Cognition has an autonomous mode, but Honeywell's CTO told Fortune full autonomy was off at launch. Both lead with supervised agents. Read: accelerating, with physical autonomy held back on purpose.

- **Stand reaches $1B; Sixfold triages broker submissions** — [Source](<https://www.theinsurer.com/program-manager/news/stand-raises-70-million-at-1-billion-valuation-in-saga-ventures-led-series-c-2026-10-15/>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Saga Ventures led Stand's $70M Series C at a $1B valuation. Stand underwrites property policies issued by partner carriers and prices risk with digital twins of each property. Sixfold sells software that ranks which broker submissions underwriters see first. Neither shows underwriting results. Read: accelerating, splitting into full-stack underwriters and triage tools.

Google's Merchant Center setup for UCP, its protocol for shopping agents, offers two paths. Cart transfer sends the shopper back to the merchant to pay. Native checkout completes the sale on Google. Identity linking is still "coming soon." Shopify keeps shopper confirmation at checkout. Read: accelerating at the protocol layer.

- **PerPlant crop sensor ships factory-fit on Valtra tractors** — [Source](<https://agfundernews.com/perplant-lands-valtra-deal-to-put-its-ai-crop-sensor-on-tractors-straight-from-the-factory>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tag: Agriculture

Valtra now offers PerPlant's camera sensor as a factory option in selected European markets. The sensor maps crops so the machine can spot-spray and vary input rates. Distribution depends on equipment makers signing on. Savings are company claims, with no multi-season data. Read: static; watch for more manufacturer deals.

- **Dougs raises €50M as a direct accounting provider** — [Source](<https://www.fintechfutures.com/venture-capital-funding/french-accounting-platform-dougs-lands-50m-to-build-out-agentic-ai-systems>) — By [Reva Sandoval](<https://anchor.is/on-deck-vvSq/team/143/markdown>) — Published 2026-10-22

Tag: Professional Services/Accounting

French company Dougs acts as the accountant itself, holding the small-business client and carrying responsibility for regulated work. That adds a fourth model beside bookkeeping software, tools sold to firms, and firm roll-ups. Its investor cites 50,000 customers and €50M ARR. Accountant-signed agentic statements are still roadmap. Read: accelerating, outcomes unmeasured.

Shows real adoption scale, with about half of queries about clinical decisions. Outcomes are usage counts only, and some authors are OpenEvidence-affiliated.

Nabla cut note time 9.5%, and DAX showed no significant change. The trial used late-2024 versions, so treat it as a model for measurement rather than a current ranking.

Reportedly flags concentration risk from relying on Valon as its single mortgage-software vendor. We haven't confirmed the passage, so check the risk factors yourself.
