Board health
Scan date: August 9, 2026. Net change from last issue: +14 new, −5 retired, −1 dropped below threshold, net +8.
Twenty-five verified entries. Last issue published ten; five more were being tracked outside that published set. Of those fifteen, five retired (Ramp at 62 days, Ambience at 46, both Maven roles past 48, HackerOne's posting removed) and one dropped below threshold — Capital One Concierge Products at 33 days, C8/R10–11, scope too narrow and AI exposure too thin to keep tracking at that age. Fourteen entries are new discoveries.
The format calls for 100. The scan covered 200+ candidates across Lever, Greenhouse, Ashby, company career pages, and VC portfolio aggregators, and twenty-five cleared the rubric thresholds with a verified live posting, confirmed geographic eligibility, and a signal still inside its window. That is the full qualifying pool as of this morning. At Director+ and Staff IC level, companies scoring 8+ on the company rubric are producing roughly one qualifying new posting every two days.
Clusters below are organized by the move each role requires from you this week. Cluster 1 gets your outreach hours. Everything after it is sequenced by what has to happen before you spend tailoring time.
Act — Apply This Week
Four roles clear Act (company 10+, role 12+) with the posting still hot. Three of them are the same job wearing different industry clothes: Render, Airwallex, and Unify each need a designer to own the surface where a human supervises an agent acting on a consequential outside system — cloud infrastructure, money movement, outbound messages to real prospects. That is the problem your Agentic Labs work was built to answer, and TinyFish gives you the practitioner half most candidates for these seats will not have. Gusto is a different animal: a platform consolidation mandate where Red Cross carries the argument. Order of attack: Render first, Airwallex second, Unify before August 11, Gusto on the outreach track rather than the application track.
1. Render — Staff Product Designer, Agent Experience. Cloud platform used by 4.5M+ developers; this seat owns how developers understand and control agent behavior inside infrastructure. Posted August 7 (2 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, $258M raised, extended $100M recently.
- Offices: Remote US.
- Value chain: Midstream infrastructure between model providers and shipped applications. Design scope covers the control surfaces developers use to monitor, debug, and intervene in agent-driven deployments.
- Best at: Removing infrastructure complexity so developers ship faster. The agent layer extends that to autonomous infrastructure actions — provisioning, scaling, routing — that happen without a human pressing a button.
- Signals: 2 days old. A second Staff Product Designer role (July 13, 27 days) covering multi-service architecture and observability is also open. Two Staff seats at once means active design org investment, not backfill.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 11–12/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 14–15/15 — Total comp 2–3 (comp not disclosed here; the second Render Staff seat posts $218K–$300K base + equity, and same-level roles at one company usually share a band), Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Brand Pulse's observer surface — every agent action scored as it lands, an hourly health number, a weekly narrative the agent writes itself — answers the question this seat is actually about: how does a developer watching an autonomous system know what it just did and whether to stop it. You designed the supervision interface for an agent working live against external data streams. A developer watching an agent provision cloud resources is asking the same three questions in a different vocabulary. Alibaba's +20% transaction lift backs the claim that you have measured what happens when a complex system becomes legible, but Brand Pulse leads because the pattern is the same pattern.
- Verdict: Act. Apply and reach out this week. Lead Agentic Labs, support with TinyFish production agent work. Strongest new entry on the board.
2. Airwallex — Staff Product Designer, T0 (Agentic) Finance. Global payments and financial infrastructure platform (~$12B valuation); first designer on a new AI-native product where agents execute transactions under human supervision. Posted August 4 (5 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, 2,300+ employees, 250K+ business customers.
- Offices: San Francisco (this role), plus global offices.
- Value chain: Midstream financial infrastructure — cross-border payments, treasury, spend management. T0 sits at the frontier: an agentic layer built on top of existing rails.
- Best at: Cross-border financial operations at scale. The "T0" designation plus "first designer" framing points to real 0→1 inside a company that already has scale.
- Signals: 5 days old. The posting's language — agents doing work while humans supervise and steer — reads as a new product line rather than a feature bolted onto Spend.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10–11/12 — AI centrality 2–3 (AI is a primary strategic bet via T0, though the core business is payments infrastructure), Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 13–15/15 — Total comp 2–3 (undisclosed here; Airwallex's Spend role carries two conflicting ranges, $160K–$210K and $200K–$300K), Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher mySupply's exception-first architecture — 197 orders in the system, surface the three that need a human, five failure modes turned into five modules — is the same question T0 has to answer: which autonomous financial actions get held for review before they execute. The 100% partner adoption and $20M margin outcome prove regulated operators trusted the thing enough to run on it. A strong AI design candidate without your background has no regulated exception pattern to draw on. You built one in pharma, where a wrong batch becomes a compliance event on roughly the same terms a wrong payment does.
- Verdict: Act. Apply this week. Thermo Fisher leads, TinyFish supplies the "I am doing this in production now" line. First designer means you define the practice.
3. Unify — Staff Product Designer. AI-native outbound platform where agents find prospects, enrich accounts, and send personalized outreach without a human in the loop. Posted July 20 (20 days). Enters the extended window August 11.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, $40M raised June 2026.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Downstream application on top of data enrichment and LLM providers. Design owns the send/stop/correct loop — the moment a human decides whether the agent's draft goes out to a real person.
- Best at: Agent-driven outbound at the moment every sales team is evaluating the category. Early mover, fresh capital.
- Signals: Series B closed June 2026. 20 days old, hot for two more days.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 14–15/15 — Total comp 3 ($230K–$280K + equity + bonus), Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Carrier IQ — agent completes the forms and selects coverage, human reviews before submission — is Unify's design problem with the industry swapped out: when does a human check what the agent is about to send to someone real. You shipped that review gate in a regulated industry where the wrong send has compliance consequences. Most candidates for this seat have designed chat surfaces. You designed the gate between autonomous action and an outside consequence.
- Verdict: Act. Apply and contact before August 11. After that date this moves down to the verify-first cluster.
4. Gusto — Head of Design, Unified Service Platform. HR, payroll, and benefits platform for SMBs; this role owns design for the service layer that connects onboarding, support, and internal operations. Posted July 22 (18 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private (last reported ~$10B valuation), 2,000+ employees.
- Offices: San Francisco, Denver, New York.
- Value chain: Vertically integrated — Gusto owns the full employer-employee service relationship. This seat sits on the seam where those products meet the service experience.
- Best at: SMB employer platform with deep vertical integration. The Unified Service Platform mandate says Gusto is consolidating scattered service touchpoints, which is the Red Cross problem with different stakeholders.
- Signals: 18 days, still hot. The existing Battlecard has buyer intelligence and positioning. New this pass, on reporting line: Kelly Griggs (Head of Design for Growth, CX Platform, AI, Payments & Risk, and Service Design) is the likeliest immediate scope owner based on remit overlap. Amy Thibodeau (CDO) is the verified executive sponsor. Rebecca Gimenez (Head of Service Design) is a plausible peer or evaluator. I cannot confirm the formal reporting line — confidence moderate.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10–11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 14–15/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2–3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross took six legacy systems to one and put field volunteers, finance officers, and program directors on a single shared record for the first time — $847K disbursed, 1,689 cases in two weeks, 10x surge capacity with zero retraining. That is what Gusto is asking for: several internal roles seeing the same customer state at the same time, holding up under load. The zero-retraining deployment is the proof point their evaluator will care about, because a service platform that requires retraining does not get adopted. You have built the multi-role shared record with audit trails in a setting where dropped context means someone does not get relief money.
- Verdict: Act. Contact Kelly Griggs (inferred scope owner) or Amy Thibodeau (confirmed sponsor) this week. Issue #6's Battlecard has the engagement package. Red Cross leads; TinyFish carries the bridge narrative.
Watch — Apply With Adjusted Expectations
Five roles clear Watch (company 8+ or role 10+) with the posting hot or warm. All five are worth an application, and none should displace cluster 1 in your calendar. What caps them is consistent: company score short of Act, thin AI exposure, or public-company equity that moves the stage dimension down.
5. DoorDash — Director, Design for Brands. Multi-sided delivery marketplace; this role owns the brand and merchant side — sales intelligence, catalogs, ads, promotions, emerging retailer tools. Posted August 4 (5 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: DASH), ~20,000 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco or New York.
- Value chain: Vertically integrated marketplace. This seat sits on the supply and advertiser side, where brands spend to reach consumers.
- Best at: Last-mile logistics and marketplace density. The brand side is how DoorDash monetizes that density; the posting puts aggregate brand investment in the billions.
- Signals: 5 days old. Director title over a revenue-critical function.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 1–2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 3. Role 12–13/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Alibaba.com's B2B redesign — $50B+ GMV, three cross-functional sprints across homepage, search, and PDP, +20% daily transactions — addresses what DoorDash has to solve: a merchant growth system that stays coherent across data, operations, and purchasing surfaces where large commercial buyers decide how much to spend. You redesigned the commercial-buyer side of a marketplace at that scale and moved the number.
- Verdict: Watch. Apply this week; fresh posting, real Director scope over revenue. It stops short of Act because AI is peripheral to the product and the equity upside is a public-company grant.
6. Coinbase — Staff Product Designer, Financial Services Lead. Title says IC, mandate says player-coach: Coinbase One, card, loyalty, and advocacy surfaces, with designers to manage across 3+ PMs and 22 engineers. Posted August 7 (2 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: COIN), ~3,500 employees.
- Offices: Remote US. Base $207K–$244K plus possible equity and bonus.
- Value chain: Vertically integrated crypto financial services. This seat covers the consumer financial products layer — subscription, card, loyalty.
- Best at: Consumer crypto adoption at scale. Financial services is how Coinbase keeps users past their first trade.
- Signals: 2 days old.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 1–2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 10–12/15 — Total comp 2–3, Scope 2, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 1–2, Portfolio value 2.
- Portfolio match: Allē — 30M members, 3.2× redemption, $42 CAC — is the closer read here than Alibaba, because Allē's provider dashboard and consumer app served different motivations the way Coinbase's card and advocacy surfaces do. The retention mechanics are what a subscription-and-loyalty seat is graded on.
- Verdict: Watch. Apply. The player-coach scope is genuine and the posting is two days old. AI exposure is the weak dimension and it caps the role score. Below cluster 1 in priority.
7. Airwallex — Staff Product Designer, Spend. Spend-management workflows at the same company as entry #2, on the established product line rather than the agentic frontier. Posted July 30 (10 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Same as entry #2.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Same platform, midstream financial operations — approvals, controls, expense management.
- Best at: Cross-border spend management for businesses operating globally.
- Signals: 10 days old. Compensation data conflicts: Ashby metadata shows $160K–$210K, a separate application artifact shows $200K–$300K. Unresolved.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10–11/12. Role 11–13/15 — Total comp 2 (unresolved range), Scope 2–3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2.
- Portfolio match: Alibaba's cross-border trust work — the moment before a buyer commits to a large international order — is spend management's problem in a different seat: approval flows that finance teams trust enough to use instead of routing around. The +2.2pt NPS lift is the number that speaks to it. Less differentiated than T0.
- Verdict: Watch. Apply if T0 stalls, or take both if you want two doors into Airwallex. Settle the comp range in the first conversation.
8. Checkr — Staff Product Designer, Growth. AI-assisted identity and background verification for 140K+ companies; this seat owns self-service acquisition, onboarding, personalization, and experimentation. Posted July 27 (13 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series E ($250M raised in 2021 at $4.6B valuation).
- Offices: San Francisco or Denver.
- Value chain: Midstream identity infrastructure between employers and the data sources that verify candidate backgrounds.
- Best at: Background check automation at scale, with AI-assisted adjudication as the differentiator.
- Signals: 13 days old. A Senior Product Designer, Mortgage posting is also open, below Staff threshold, so no qualifying cluster.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2 (the Series E was 2021; the equity window may be narrowing), Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 11–12/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 2–3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross's identity verification and FEMA audit trails — identity decisions with compliance weight, multiple stakeholders trusting one record — is the fit with Checkr's core product. The gap is that this particular seat is pointed at the growth funnel rather than the adjudication layer. If the scope touches adjudication, the match gets considerably stronger.
- Verdict: Watch. Apply, and ask early whether the seat reaches the verification product itself. The funnel framing is what holds AI exposure and portfolio value down.
9. Instacart — Staff Experience Designer. Four-sided marketplace (consumers, shoppers, retailers, advertisers); this seat concentrates on growth journeys and experimentation. Posted July 27 (13 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: CART), ~3,000 employees. California base $233K–$246K.
- Offices: Remote US.
- Value chain: Vertically integrated marketplace. Consumer acquisition and retention side.
- Best at: Grocery delivery density and the advertising business sitting on top of it.
- Signals: 13 days old.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2–3. Role 10–12/15 — Total comp 2–3, Scope 2, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 1–2, Portfolio value 2.
- Portfolio match: Allē again, but for a different reason than Coinbase: here the relevant part is the measurement frame — $42 CAC and 3.2× redemption across a dual-sided platform is the arithmetic a marketplace growth seat runs on. AI exposure is thin and the portfolio would not gain much.
- Verdict: Watch. Apply only if you have bandwidth after cluster 1. Lowest ceiling in this group.
Verify Search Before Committing
Six roles score high enough to earn tailored outreach, but every one has crossed into the extended posting window (22–42 days). The move is identical for all six: confirm the search is live before you spend preparation time. Ten minutes of recruiter outreach saves three hours of tailoring. Affirm and Giga are the two worth verifying today.
10. Affirm — Staff Product Designer, Agentic Experiences. Buy-now-pay-later platform; this seat designs authorization, delegation, and recourse for agentic commerce. Posted July 13 (27 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: AFRM), ~1,800 employees.
- Offices: Remote US.
- Value chain: Midstream financial infrastructure between merchants and consumers at the point of purchase. The agentic layer inserts autonomous purchasing agents into that flow.
- Best at: Transparent consumer lending. The agentic mandate opens the question nobody in the category has answered: what happens when an agent buys something on a consumer's behalf.
- Signals: 27 days, extended window. Justified for continued tracking: the candidate pool for agentic commerce design is thin, and the posting language is specific rather than aspirational.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 2–3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2. Role 14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Carrier IQ — agent selects coverage and completes the forms, human reviews before commitment — is the review-before-commitment interface Affirm needs for a purchase an agent initiated. The Trust essay does the second half of the work: users anchor to the worst outcome, not the average, which is exactly why one unauthorized agent purchase costs more than a hundred correct ones earn back. You have shipped the gate and published the argument for why accuracy metrics understate the problem.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Confirm active, then tailor fully. The problem is rare and the match is the strongest in this cluster.
11. Giga — Staff Product Designer. Voice, chat, and email agents for enterprise customer support; the seat owns major surfaces, enterprise research, design standards, and conversational patterns. Posted July 15 (25 days). Base $240K–$260K.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series A, $61M raised.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Downstream application — enterprise support agents handling customer interactions autonomously. Design owns the escalation boundary between agent and human operator.
- Best at: Multi-modal support agents across voice, chat, and email. The design work has almost no precedent to copy from.
- Signals: 25 days, extended window. $61M at Series A is unusually well capitalized for the stage.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 14–15/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross is the escalation case. When Giga's agent hits something it cannot resolve, the handoff has to carry full context or the operator re-interviews an already-frustrated customer. You built the record three roles shared, moved 1,689 cases in two weeks, and absorbed surge volume without retraining anyone. You have shipped that handoff under time pressure where dropped context has a human cost.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Confirm active, then apply. High comp, high AI exposure, publishable work.
12. Babylist — Director, Product Design (AI Builder). E-commerce registry platform for new parents; the role pairs design leadership with hands-on AI product building. Posted July 17 (23 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, ~300 employees.
- Offices: Remote US (HQ Emeryville, CA).
- Value chain: Downstream consumer application — registry, commerce, and content. "AI Builder" says they intend to put AI into the core experience, not adjacent to it.
- Best at: Category ownership in baby registry. The unusual part is the title: they want a Director whose hands are on the work.
- Signals: 23 days, extended window.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 2–3, Stage/equity 2–3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2. Role 13/15 — Total comp 2–3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: The "AI Builder" framing is the whole signal, and Agentic Labs is the direct answer to it — Brand Pulse, Retail Velocity, and Carrier IQ, three solo builds, three different agent architectures, three different supervision surfaces, all live and clickable. Allē covers the consumer platform half (30M members, 3.2× redemption). Published AI design work plus Director-level scope plus hands on the tools is a combination this posting is unlikely to see twice.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Confirm active. Strong fit for the IC+manager profile. TinyFish (three products in three months) is your verbal answer to "can you still build," not a portfolio citation.
13. Render — Staff Product Designer. Render's second open seat, covering the progression from single-service projects to complex multi-service architectures — CLI, SDK, observability, and emerging agentic workflows. Posted July 13 (27 days). Base $218K–$300K + equity.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Same as entry #1.
- Offices: Remote US.
- Value chain: Same platform, but this seat addresses the complexity layer — how developers manage infrastructure as it grows from one service to many.
- Best at: Keeping infrastructure manageable. This is an information architecture role wearing a Staff Designer title.
- Signals: 27 days, extended window. Entry #1 is the higher-priority Render seat.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 11–12/12. Role 13–14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2–3, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Here Alibaba beats Brand Pulse. Three sprints across homepage, search, and PDP to keep a marketplace navigable as its parts multiplied, +20% daily transactions — that is legibility as a system grows, which is this seat's brief. Entry #1 is legibility as autonomy grows. Different question, same underlying discipline, and you have measured both.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Agent Experience first. This is the second door into Render if that one fills.
14. Fieldguide — Staff Product Designer. Automates audit and advisory workflows for accounting firms; the seat designs AI-assisted compliance and risk assessment surfaces. Posted July 10 (30 days). Base $180K–$210K.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, ~100 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Midstream between accounting firms and their audit obligations. Design owns the workflow where auditors review, accept, or override automated findings.
- Best at: Audit automation with AI. The interesting constraint: auditors have to trust the findings enough to sign, without trusting them enough to stop looking.
- Signals: 30 days, approaching the extended-window boundary. Posted comp caps the cash sub-score at 2.
- Tier: AI-native — read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 9–10/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 13/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher, again on exception-first grounds: 197 items in, three surfaced for judgment, five failure modes turned into five modules. An auditor's workflow follows the same shape. The number to lead with is 100% partner adoption — regulated professionals who could have refused the system used it instead.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Comp sits below the $250K floor, which caps the role score. The problem and the fit are strong enough to justify verifying anyway.
15. EasyLlama — Staff Product Designer. Compliance training, policy management, phishing simulation, and early agentic workflows for 6,000+ organizations. Bootstrapped and profitable. Posted July 11 (29 days). Base $180K–$200K.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Bootstrapped, profitable.
- Offices: Remote including California.
- Value chain: Downstream application — compliance tooling for HR and security teams. Agentic workflows are the growth vector.
- Best at: Compliance training automation, run with the discipline bootstrapped profitability enforces.
- Signals: 29 days, extended window. Reports to VP Product. Comp below the $250K floor.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2 (bootstrapped, so no equity event on the horizon), Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 11–12/15 — Total comp 1–2, Scope 2–3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2.
- Portfolio match: The Thermo Fisher pattern applies — high-volume automated output made reviewable by surfacing only the items needing judgment, which is what a compliance team does with training failures and policy violations. Same pattern as entry #14, applied to lower stakes.
- Verdict: Watch — verify search. Bottom of the cluster. Bootstrapped means the equity dimension has no upside path, and comp is capped. Pursue only if the higher-scoring roles do not convert.
Probe Before Acting
Five roles are live, but something about the seat — continuity, scope, comp, or mandate — has to be answered before tailoring is a good use of hours. What each needs is a question, and I have named the specific one. Stripe is the most consequential, because reapplying to the same search costs you more than doing nothing.
16. Stripe — Senior Staff Product Designer, Risk. Payments infrastructure; the seat covers onboarding, compliance, account health, modular risk products, and AI-driven workflows. Current posting ID 8031782; predecessor ID 8001660 was dated June 11.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private (~$65B+ valuation), ~8,000 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco, Seattle, or remote US.
- Value chain: Upstream financial infrastructure. Risk design shapes the compliance and trust surfaces that decide whether a business can operate on Stripe at all.
- Best at: Developer-first payments infrastructure at scale. Risk is where trust architecture meets regulatory obligation.
- Signals: The public posting ID changed, but the mandate language is materially equivalent to the predecessor. No recruiter restart post, no manager change, no new headcount statement found. Greenhouse allows a new public post to attach to an existing parent job without restarting the search, so a new ID does not prove a new slate.
- Tier: Enterprise platform — read Enterprise playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10–11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2–3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross is the case: identity determinations with compliance weight, FEMA audit trails, three roles sharing one auditable record. Stripe Risk decides whether a business gets to operate, on evidence that has to hold up later. Alibaba's +2.2pt NPS is the supporting number, because it shows trust surfaces moving at platform scale rather than being described.
- Verdict: Probe seat. Do not re-tailor or reapply because the ID changed. Ask a Stripe design recruiter one question: new slate or refreshed artifact on the same search. New slate, apply with full tailoring. Same search, your existing application is in the system and a second one reads as noise.
17. Nourish — Staff Product Designer. Health-tech platform spanning patient, provider, and growth products; reports to Head of Design. Open in New York or San Francisco.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C, $100M raised May 2026, $215M total. Expanding into physicians and metabolic care.
- Offices: New York or San Francisco.
- Value chain: Downstream health-tech — patient-facing nutrition plus provider-facing clinical tools.
- Best at: Nutrition health-tech with both patient and provider surfaces. VP of Design Omar Lee has publicly described a ground-up patient experience redesign, a shift toward proactive conversational guidance, a design system rebuild, and the hire of Nourish's first dedicated researcher.
- Signals: The posting is live, but the same parent posting has appeared in earlier forms and requisition continuity is unresolved. Comp undisclosed. Against comparable Series C health-tech Staff roles (Abridge: $217K–$255K; Maven: $195K–$230K; Hinge Health: $195K–$275K), my working estimate is $195K–$255K. Provisional comp score 2 — that is inference, not posted data.
- Tier: Healthcare/Regulated — read Healthcare/Regulated playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 10–11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 11–13/15 — Total comp 2 (estimated), Scope 2–3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Allē is the closest read on the remit as posted — provider and consumer surfaces in a healthcare-adjacent product, 30M members, dual-surface redesign, 3.2× redemption. Thermo Fisher backs it with regulated-systems credibility: 100% partner adoption, exceptions surfaced where the wrong call reaches a patient. If the seat is weighted toward provider clinical tools rather than growth, Thermo Fisher moves to the front.
- Verdict: Probe. Two questions before tailoring: added seat or reposted search, and what is the range. The $100M raise and a design function actively expanding make this a strong company moment; those two answers decide whether it is Act or Watch.
18. Amplitude — Head of Product Design. Product analytics platform; the role leads the design function. Posted July 7 (33 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: AMPL), ~700 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Midstream analytics infrastructure between product teams and their usage data.
- Best at: Product analytics for digital product teams. The design problem is making dense data usable by builders.
- Signals: 33 days, deep in the extended window. The prior Battlecard has buyer intelligence and positioning, and its open question is still open: does this seat own the whole design function or a slice of it.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 2. Role 13/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Alibaba is the mandate-building case rather than the redesign case — you named a gap nobody had named, built the research argument, got the executive mandate, then ran three cross-functional sprints against it. +7% DAU and +20% transactions are the numbers an analytics company will actually respect, because they are the numbers their own product exists to move. You have also led a design function whose users were sophisticated operators, which is Amplitude's audience described differently.
- Verdict: Probe scope. At 33 days, confirm the search is live, then get the org geometry answered before more tailoring. The Battlecard has the engagement package ready.
19. Nubank — Staff Product Designer. Digital bank with 135M customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. This posting is a general Staff mandate with no named product pillar and no range. Posted July 19 (21 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: NU), ~8,000 employees.
- Offices: Palo Alto (this role).
- Value chain: Vertically integrated digital banking — Nubank owns the full consumer financial relationship.
- Best at: Consumer banking at scale in Latin America. 135M customers is a rare scale proof.
- Signals: 21 days. The posting's generality is the problem: without a product area or a range, precise scoring is not possible.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — read Growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 10–12/15 — provisional until product area and comp are known.
- Portfolio match: Provisional. Allē if the seat touches consumer financial engagement or rewards; Alibaba if it touches B2B or platform operations. I cannot pick without knowing the pillar, and picking wrong here is worse than waiting a day.
- Verdict: Probe scope. Ask which product area and what the range is. The answer is Watch or Ignore, not Act.
20. Okta/Auth0 — Staff Product Designer. Auth0's Emerging Products team is designing developer systems for securing AI agents — granular permissions, SDKs, authorization primitives — with prototyping in React and Next.js. Posted July 28 (12 days). Bay Area base $140K–$193K.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NASDAQ: OKTA), ~6,000 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Upstream identity infrastructure. Auth0 supplies the authentication layer other products build on; the AI agent mandate extends it to non-human actors.
- Best at: Developer identity infrastructure. Agent permissions is the open frontier — who authorizes an agent, what it can reach, how you revoke it.
- Signals: 12 days, still hot. Comp is the problem: $140K–$193K sits below the $250K top-score line and below the $200K threshold for a 2.
- Tier: Enterprise platform — read Enterprise playbook before outreach.
- Rubric scores: Company 8–9/12 — AI centrality 2–3, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 12–13/15 — Total comp 1, Scope 2–3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross again, but for the authorization mechanics specifically: who may approve an action, who may reverse it, and what the audit trail records. That is Auth0's problem with the actor changed from a caseworker to an agent. You have built auditable authorization across roles in a setting where the wrong grant is a compliance event.
- Verdict: Probe compensation. On the rubric this belongs in Ignore-until-trigger, and I am overriding that on purpose: the AI exposure and portfolio value scores are near the top of the board, and very few companies are hiring a designer to define authorization surfaces for non-human actors. One conversation, one question — is the posted range a level mismatch (Auth0 may run a Staff II or Principal band above this) or a hard ceiling. At $200K+ with equity this becomes Watch. At the posted range, pass, however good the problem is.
Structural Hold
Five roles are live but blocked by something no amount of tailoring will move: geography, a corporate event, or posting age. Each carries a named trigger. Watch the Vanta and Klarity clocks first — they are the only two here that can convert this week.
21. Brex — Staff Product Designer, AI. Brex's design ATS has not migrated to Capital One's system, and the posting remains live on Brex's own career page. But Capital One closed the acquisition on April 7 for roughly $2.56B in cash plus shares, which ends the pre-IPO equity thesis this role used to score on. The posting still says equity "may be provided" without specifying whether new hires get Capital One RSUs, another instrument, or cash. The design mandate — delegation, supervision, review — is unchanged and still strong; the Battlecard from Issue #5 covers it. Posted July 8 (32 days).
- Rubric scores (revised): Company 7–8/12 — Stage/equity falls to 1. Role 12–13/15 — problem and AI exposure hold up, comp structure unresolved.
- Verdict: Structural hold. Trigger: public disclosure of the post-acquisition equity structure for new Brex hires. Capital One RSUs with real upside, re-score to Watch. Cash substitute only, the cash ceiling may still clear but the equity dimension stays capped at 1 permanently.
22. Capital One — Product Design Director, Card Servicing and Support. Internal platform design for card servicing systems. Posted July 22 (18 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: COF), ~50,000 employees.
- Offices: McLean, VA / Richmond, VA / New York. Hybrid.
- Geographic mismatch. Three hybrid locations, none in the Bay Area, and the posting does not offer US-wide remote. Some Capital One design roles do take remote-from-California candidates; this one does not say so.
- Rubric scores: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2–3, Trajectory 2–3. Role 12/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 2, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Red Cross's caseworker-first consolidation — three roles, one record, information surfaced rather than hunted for — is what internal servicing agents need when every incoming issue is different.
- Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger (geographic). Trigger: confirmation that the role takes remote-from-California candidates, or a repost with California eligibility. No tailoring until location is settled.
23. Capital One — Director, Product Design, Accelerator. Internal innovation and 0→1 product development inside Capital One. Posted July 14 (26 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Same as entry #22.
- Offices: McLean, VA. Hybrid.
- Geographic mismatch. Same as entry #22 — McLean hybrid, no stated remote eligibility.
- Rubric scores: Company 8/12. Role 12/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 2–3, Craft depth 2–3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2–3.
- Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher mySupply — 0→1 in 12 months inside a regulated enterprise, $20M margin, 100% adoption — is the Accelerator brief with a different logo on it.
- Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger (geographic). Same trigger as entry #22.
Vanta (#24) must be verified immediately or it retires. Klarity (#25) retires August 13 — four days — unless confirmed active. Both score among the highest on the board. If either search is live, it's Act.
24. Vanta — Head of Design. Automates security and compliance for cloud-native companies. C11/R14, among the highest-scoring entries on the board, and 34 days old, deep in the extended window. Posted July 6.
- Verdict: Verify immediately or retire. Confirmed active, this is Act today. No confirmation by August 20 (43 days) and it comes off the board.
25. Klarity — Staff Product Designer. Automates revenue contract review with AI. C10/R15 — the highest role score on the board — at 38 days, with the six-week retirement boundary landing August 13.
- Verdict: Verify by August 13 or retire. Four days to establish whether the search is live. Confirmed active, this is Act. Otherwise it retires next issue.
Retired
Five previously tracked roles have decayed past threshold or been pulled. Stop tracking them.
Ramp — Director of Product Design(Ashby): 62 days, well past the 43-day boundary. Trigger to restore: new posting ID or recruiter confirmation of a restart.Ambience — Staff Product Designer(Ashby): 46 days. Trigger: new posting or recruiter post.Maven — Senior Staff Product Designer, Care Delivery(Greenhouse): 48 days. Trigger: new posting ID.Maven — VP of Design(Maven board): 54 days. Trigger: new posting ID.HackerOne — Director, AI Product Design: posting removed. The Battlecard from Issue #6 is historical positioning material now, not a live-role artifact. Trigger: new Director+ design posting on HackerOne's career page.
Partially Characterized
Two companies have live postings I could not fully score this pass.
- Netflix — Staff Product Designer, New Content Experiences (careers page): July 14 (26 days), US-remote. The public page does not expose enough mandate text to score craft depth, AI exposure, or portfolio value. Completable if the posting picks up team description or AI detail, or if a recruiter or hiring manager post surfaces the mandate. Check next cycle.
- Fetch (careers page): currently lists Director, Product Design; Staff Product Designer, AI Labs; and Staff Product Designer, Ads. No original posting dates disclosed, so freshness cannot be scored. The AI Labs seat could score high if it is fresh. Completable if Fetch's ATS exposes dates or a recruiter post establishes recency.
- Affirm's agentic payment tokens: Affirm and Stripe have launched shared payment tokens that let agents initiate purchases without exposing underlying credentials — framing the Staff Agentic Experiences role around authorization and delegation rather than conversational UI.
- NIST's agent authorization standards: The 2026 AI Agent Standards Initiative focuses on secure agent identity, authentication, and authorization across human-agent and multi-agent interactions — vocabulary directly applicable to Vanta, Stripe, Klarity, and Okta/Auth0 mandates.
- Oversight beyond "human in the loop": A peer-reviewed paper in npj Digital Medicine argues that meaningful AI oversight requires understanding, cognitive room, authority to disagree, and effective intervention — a framework that separates real agentic design authority from surface-level supervision language in job postings.
- Vanta's revenue acceleration: Fortune reported that Vanta crossed $300M in ARR after tripling revenue in two years, driven by enterprise demand around "shadow AI" — strengthening the company-trajectory case if the Head of Design search is confirmed active.
