OpenAI posted two product design roles on August 6. Three days old. Nothing qualifying had appeared there in months, and both listings carry comp bands that tell you more about leveling than the titles do. Headway put out three provider-journey roles in seventeen hours, one of them naming agentic workflows outright. Both clusters are inside their hot windows.
Gusto's Head of Design and Capital One's Card Servicing Director cross the 21-day hot threshold. Headway's Group Practices posting crosses the 43-day Ignore threshold. If any of those interest you, outreach goes out Monday or Tuesday.
Thirteen companies carry live signals this cycle — ten at Act or Watch, two Shape, one Resolve. Entries are grouped by move type. Compete means an active search you enter now. Resolve means a signal exists but something structural has to be clarified first. Shape means no qualifying role has been posted, but conditions favor starting the conversation anyway. Five companies were downgraded. Eight more are priority targets sitting quiet.
Window Status Changes
Upgraded:
- OpenAI: Ignore to Act. Two PD roles posted Aug 6, $245K–$310K, SF. First qualifying signal in months.
Downgraded:
- Ambience: Watch to Ignore. Past 43-day posting threshold.
- Ramp: Watch to Ignore. Director, Product Design posted June 8. Sixty-two days, well past decay.
- Freshworks: Monitoring to geographic fail. The Senior Director search is Bengaluru-based. Staff PD – AI Agent Studio has expired. No US design role exists.
- HackerOne: Prior cycle Watch to unresolved. The Director, AI Product Design role ($270K–$300K, reports to CPO) is still live, but I could not establish a reliable original publication date. Without it I can't classify the window. See Resolve.
- Maven Clinic: Prior cycle Watch to date-conflicted. The Senior Staff role shows two competing dates — June 22 (47 days, Ignore) versus a July 6 repost (34 days, Watch). See Resolve.
Expiring within 7 days:
- Gusto Head of Design — crosses 21 days Aug 13
- Capital One Card Servicing Director — crosses 21 days Aug 13
- Headway Group Practices — crosses 43 days Aug 13

Hot Signals — Posted This Week
Two clusters landed in the last seven days at companies that had been quiet on design hiring for months. OpenAI's paired postings, with bands starting at $245K, are the strongest new signal on the board. Headway's three-role burst points at a piece of the org being built out across CRM, group practices, and care coordination at once. Reach out to both this week while the field is still thin.
1. OpenAI. Builds and deploys frontier AI models across consumer products, API infrastructure, and enterprise platforms.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Private, last reported valuation ~$150B+. Thousands of employees. Multiple rounds totaling billions.
- Offices: San Francisco (HQ), Seattle, NYC, London, Dublin, Tokyo.
- Value chain: Vertically integrated — upstream model provider and downstream product builder. Design scope touches the full stack, from model behavior to end-user surfaces.
- Best at: Making frontier model capability usable by non-technical consumers and developers on the same day.
- Signals: Two Product Designer roles published Aug 6: Payments (SF, $245K–$310K + equity) and Engineering Acceleration (Seattle, same band). The title reads generic. The band sits well above the $230K median across the Staff and Director postings I've tracked, which is the more reliable read on what they're actually buying. Treat comp as the seniority signal here.
- Tier: AI-native — Tier Playbook: Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role 13/15 (Comp 3, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Payments is a trust problem inside a financial transaction that an AI system now mediates. Lead with the Allē dual-surface redesign — 3.2× redemption lift, $42 CAC — because it shows transactional surfaces where user trust moved revenue in a domain with real financial consequence. Engineering Acceleration is internal tooling for developers building with AI, so lead there with Thermo Fisher mySupply and the 100% adoption figure among pharma supply chain experts: users who abandon anything that slows them down. TinyFish supplies daily production currency for either mandate. Full proof route is in the companion Portfolio Playbook.
- Verdict: Act — Priority Action Queue. Outreach this week. Payments is the stronger portfolio match, Engineering Acceleration the stronger TinyFish match. If you only pursue one, take Payments.
- Fit: Act | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Allē transactional trust (Payments) or Thermo Fisher expert adoption (Eng Accel) + TinyFish production AI currency
2. Headway. Mental health marketplace connecting patients with insurance-covered therapists and running the provider-side business workflow.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series D, $100M+ raised. Growth-stage, pre-IPO.
- Offices: NYC (HQ), remote-eligible.
- Value chain: Downstream marketplace — two-sided platform across patients, providers, and insurance networks. Design scope spans consumer booking and provider practice management.
- Best at: Cutting the friction between insurance-covered therapy and the patients who need it.
- Signals: Three provider-journey mandates posted around Aug 3–4 (five to six days old), including a Staff CRM role with explicit agentic-workflow language. A fourth posting, Group Practices, is older and crosses the 43-day Ignore threshold on Aug 13. Three roles inside seventeen hours reads as provider-journey infrastructure getting funded across several fronts simultaneously. Per the prior cycle's cluster analysis, a cluster shaped like this reveals where the org is expanding rather than predicting a specific leadership hire.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform with a healthcare overlay — Tier Playbook: Read growth-stage playbook before outreach; note healthcare/regulated evaluation patterns for the provider-facing work.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role (Staff CRM) 13/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: The agentic language on the Staff CRM role means AI-assisted provider practice management — agents handling scheduling, insurance claims, patient communication for a therapist who remains accountable for all of it. Carrier IQ from Agentic Labs is the direct analog: an agent-mediated workflow in insurance underwriting, where the human expert has to trust the agent's output and still verify it. A therapist reviewing agent-submitted billing is running that same loop. What separates you from a candidate with comparable agentic case studies is that you handle agent traces, attribution, and reversibility in production at TinyFish daily rather than in a design file.
- Verdict: Act — Priority Action Queue. Staff CRM is the lead. Group Practices expires Wednesday; if that mandate interests you, send Monday.
- Fit: Act | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Agentic Labs Carrier IQ (agent trust in regulated professional workflow) + TinyFish agent governance currency
Expiring Wednesday — Last Outreach Window
Three signals cross their decay thresholds on August 13. After Wednesday, Gusto and Capital One drop from Act to Watch and require written staleness justification to stay on the board. Headway Group Practices drops to Ignore. Anything you want to send on these three goes Monday or Tuesday.
3. Gusto. Payroll, benefits, and HR platform for small and medium businesses.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, last reported valuation ~$10B+. 2,000+ employees.
- Offices: SF (HQ), NYC, Denver. Remote-eligible.
- Value chain: Midstream platform sitting between employers and the regulatory and financial infrastructure of employment. Design scope covers employer workflows, employee self-service, and compliance automation.
- Best at: Making payroll and HR behave like a product for SMBs rather than a compliance obligation.
- Signals: Head of Design, Unified Service Platform is still live on Greenhouse. Crosses the 21-day threshold Aug 13. The risk framing from Issue #6 covers mandate quality and the factors that could make this a difficult seat.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — Tier Playbook: Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: "Unified Service Platform" is a consolidation mandate. Multiple service touchpoints have to collapse into one employer experience without losing what each one currently does. Lead with Red Cross: $847K disbursed, six systems reduced to one, national deployment. Follow with Alibaba.com, where three cross-functional sprints across homepage, search, and PDP produced a +20% daily transaction lift — proof that the consolidation held up commercially. The part a competing candidate probably can't claim is that you named the structural gap at Alibaba NA and built the design mandate around it, which is the actual first-year job when a company creates a Head of Design seat for the first time.
- Verdict: Act, expiring. Outreach Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday this becomes a Watch.
- Fit: Act | Signal: verified, expiring | Move: Compete | Proof: Red Cross system consolidation + Alibaba mandate-building + TinyFish platform-scale context
4. Capital One. Consumer and commercial banking, credit cards, and financial technology with a several-hundred-person Experience Design org under CDO Daniela Jorge.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (NYSE: COF). ~50,000+ employees. Market cap ~$70B+.
- Offices: McLean, VA (HQ), NYC, SF, Richmond. Hybrid.
- Value chain: Downstream financial services. Within Card Servicing, design scope covers post-acquisition customer experience at consumer scale.
- Best at: Carrying design as a named executive function — CDO title, several hundred designers, staffing across business lines.
- Signals: Card Servicing Director crosses 21 days Aug 13. Two more Director mandates remain live: Accelerator and Concierge. Three separate product territories. None names a shared direct manager, though all sit inside Jorge's org.
- Tier: Enterprise platform — Tier Playbook: Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 (AI 2, Stage 1, Design 3, Trajectory 2). Role 10/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 2, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Card Servicing is everything that happens after acquisition — how millions of existing cardholders manage accounts, dispute charges, and get help. Allē gives you the scale number (30M members, dual-surface), but the sharper proof is the Alibaba.com PDP work, where you improved the post-discovery experience that drives repeat transactions rather than first ones. A CDO-led org grades at enterprise altitude, and your Head of Design title plus the cross-functional sprint structure is the vocabulary that registers there. Pure IC portfolio depth tends not to.
- Verdict: Watch. The company barely clears 8 and Card Servicing expires Wednesday. Accelerator and Concierge have more runway. If Capital One matters to you, Card Servicing outreach goes Monday; otherwise track the other two.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified, Card Servicing expiring | Move: Compete | Proof: Alibaba enterprise-scale trust design + Allē consumer scale
Stable Active Searches
None of these postings are new, but all are confirmed live and the companies score high enough to keep pursuing. Stripe's Agentic Commerce role is the standout on the whole board: the only Senior Staff mandate at a pre-IPO company scoring maximum on both rubrics. The hazard with a stable signal is that the field assembles around you while the posting sits. Amplitude and Vanta each have a companion Battlecard that owns deep positioning; the matches below are enough to send outreach, but read the Battlecards before any interview.
5. Stripe. Payments infrastructure for internet businesses, now extending into agentic commerce — designing how AI agents transact.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, last reported valuation ~$65B+. 8,000+ employees.
- Offices: SF (HQ), Seattle, NYC, Dublin, Singapore, global.
- Value chain: Midstream infrastructure between businesses and the financial system. Design scope runs from developer APIs through merchant dashboards to the emerging agent-commerce layer.
- Best at: Keeping payments infrastructure out of the developer's way while keeping it legible to the business.
- Signals: Three Staff+ roles live: Staff PD, Risk, Staff PD, Link, and Senior Staff PD, Agentic Commerce. Risk and Link are aging. Agentic Commerce is live but Stripe doesn't expose an original publication date, so I can't run the decay clock on it. The companion Portfolio Playbook carries the Link proof route.
- Tier: AI-native for Agentic Commerce, Enterprise platform for Risk and Link — Tier Playbook: Read AI-native for Agentic Commerce, enterprise for the other two.
- Rubric: Company 12/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role (Agentic Commerce) 15/15 (Comp 3, Scope 3, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Agentic Commerce is the hardest design problem on this board: agents buying and selling on a human's behalf, and what the merchant needs to see, control, and reverse. The Watch/Verify/Delegate ladder from "Trust Is the New Interface" maps onto merchant supervision of agent-initiated transactions almost directly. Alibaba.com at $50B+ GMV establishes that you understand commerce at platform scale. Very few candidates hold agentic design work and enterprise commerce experience at once, and fewer still are shipping agent infrastructure in production while interviewing. That combination is why the role rubric maxes out.
- Verdict: Act — Priority Action Queue. Agentic Commerce is the lead. If you pursue one Stripe mandate, this is it.
- Fit: Act | Signal: verified, with date ambiguity on Agentic Commerce | Move: Compete | Proof: "Trust Is the New Interface" + Alibaba commerce scale + TinyFish production agent infrastructure
6. Amplitude. Product analytics and experimentation platform covering Core Analytics, Statsig (experimentation), and Wave (session replay).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public (Nasdaq: AMPL). ~700 employees. Market cap ~$1.5B.
- Offices: SF (HQ), NYC, London, global.
- Value chain: Midstream tooling. Analytics that product teams use to understand behavior and run experiments.
- Best at: Making analytics usable by the product team doing the work rather than by the executive reading the summary.
- Signals: Head of Product Design remains live. The companion Battlecard owns buyer intelligence and outreach copy. Signal Watch verdict: Act, stable window.
- Tier: Enterprise platform — Tier Playbook: Read enterprise playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: Three products built or acquired separately, each with its own design language, user model, and navigation logic. The Head of Design has to unify them without gutting what already works in each. Alibaba is the structural proof: three cross-functional sprints across homepage, search, and PDP, brought under one design direction, with +20% daily transactions as the business measure of that coherence. A candidate whose depth lives inside a single product can demonstrate craft but not the tradeoff judgment this specific job asks for. The Battlecard goes further on the Statsig integration.
- Verdict: Act. The companion Battlecard owns deep positioning; the match above is enough to send outreach today.
- Fit: Act | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Alibaba cross-sprint platform unification + TinyFish multi-product context
7. Vanta. Compliance automation platform covering SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA certification workflows.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, Series C ($150M, Jun 2024), last reported valuation ~$2.45B. ~500 employees.
- Offices: SF (HQ), remote-eligible.
- Value chain: Midstream tooling between companies and their auditors and customers.
- Best at: Turning certification — an evidence-collection exercise every SaaS company dreads — into a product workflow.
- Signals: Head of Product Design is roughly 35 days old, inside the 22–42 day Watch band. The companion Battlecard reconstructs the succession, names the likely decision-maker, and supplies outreach artifacts. Its verdict is to move this week.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — Tier Playbook: Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 3, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Vanta's users are security engineers and compliance managers — domain experts who reject tooling that flattens their work into checkboxes. Thermo Fisher mySupply is the closest proof you have: a regulated workflow for expert users with every reason to resist a new system, and 100% adoption across six pharma partners as the evidence they came along. Red Cross adds the consolidation angle, which is the same shape as pulling fragmented compliance evidence into one place. TinyFish supplies the vocabulary for where Vanta is heading with automated evidence collection.
- Verdict: Watch on the 35-day count, but the Battlecard says move this week and I agree. Five weeks means the field is already assembled, so the answer is a sharper message, not a later one.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified, aging | Move: Compete | Proof: Thermo Fisher expert-user adoption in regulated workflow + Red Cross system consolidation + TinyFish AI-agent currency
8. Babylist. Commerce and registry platform for growing families — registry, shop, app, and product guides, serving 9M+ annual purchasers on $750M in 2025 revenue.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C (Nov 2021, $40M, Norwest). ~$50M total known funding. 200–750 employees; LinkedIn and Revelio estimates diverge. Eighth consecutive profitable year.
- Offices: Oakland, CA (HQ). Remote-eligible.
- Value chain: Downstream end-user application between families, retailers, and gift-givers. Design scope covers registry, shopping, content, and an emerging AI layer.
- Best at: Holding registry, editorial, and commerce in one experience without any of the three feeling bolted onto the others.
- Signals: Director plus Staff plus a Senior "AI Builder" cluster. Per the prior cycle's analysis, the six apparent listings resolve to fewer underlying funded problems. "AI Builder" in the Senior posting is the interesting piece; it suggests AI has become a real budget line rather than a roadmap mention. The last priced round is five years old, so the equity question is genuine — though $750M revenue growing 45% argues the company is worth considerably more than its 2021 mark.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — Tier Playbook: Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role (Director) 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 3, Craft 2, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: They need someone who can scale a commerce-plus-content platform and build AI into registry and shopping without breaking the emotional register of the product. Allē is the closest scale analog — 30M members, dual-surface redesign, 3.2× redemption, $42 CAC — and it's consumer commerce with the business math attached. "AI Builder" language means they want someone who can ship AI features, not commission them, which is where TinyFish plus Agentic Labs separates you from the commerce-platform designers they'll otherwise see. For your own evaluation: profitable and self-funded means design direction isn't hostage to a fundraise clock.
- Verdict: Watch. The cluster is interesting but AI centrality is the soft dimension. Monitor for a design leadership posting following the cluster.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Allē consumer commerce scale + TinyFish AI-native building
Watch
Qualifying, Lower Urgency
These three clear the company threshold with live postings, but each has one dimension holding it back: Handshake's role is narrower than the leadership mandates above, Fieldguide's comp sits below floor, and Giga is early enough that execution risk is real. None of them should displace a Compete entry this week. All three are worth a warm first contact if you have capacity after the top of the queue.
9. Handshake. Two-sided career marketplace connecting early-career talent with employers, now also selling AI data services to AI labs.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series F ($200M, Jan 2022), $3.3–3.5B valuation. ~$435M total raised. 501–1,000 employees. Tracking toward $300M ARR.
- Offices: SF (HQ), NYC, London, Berlin.
- Value chain: Downstream marketplace plus an upstream AI data business. Design scope could span consumer marketplace surfaces and enterprise data-quality tooling.
- Best at: Making a two-sided marketplace work for early-career candidates without leaning on pedigree as the matching signal.
- Signals: Staff Product Designer, Network is live. VP of Design is May-Li Khoe. The 2022 valuation mark is stale, but ARR trajectory and the Cleanlab acquisition suggest the company has outgrown its last priced round. Moderate confidence.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform — Tier Playbook: Read growth-stage playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 2, Stage 2, Design 3, Trajectory 3). Role 11/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Network is a discovery-and-connection problem across two populations with different incentives. Alibaba is the structural match on marketplace mechanics, but Allē is the more precise one — two distinct user types, one platform, and surfaces that had to work differently for each. The angle most marketplace candidates won't have: Handshake's growth story now runs through the AI data business, and you can hold a conversation about where that goes because you're inside enterprise agent deployment at TinyFish.
- Verdict: Watch. Good company, narrower mandate than what's in Compete. Monitor for a leadership posting.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Alibaba marketplace + Allē dual-surface + TinyFish AI context
10. Fieldguide. AI audit and advisory platform where agents run the first pass of audit planning, financial testing, and procedure drafting before human review.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C ($75M, Feb 2026, Goldman Sachs) at a $700M valuation. $125M total raised. ~160 employees, planning to double. Customers include KPMG, RSM, Baker Tilly, BDO, Grant Thornton.
- Offices: SF (HQ).
- Value chain: Midstream tooling between audit firms and their regulatory and client obligations. Design scope sits on the agent-human handoff in a workflow where mistakes have regulatory weight.
- Best at: Getting agents to do the document-heavy first pass of an audit in a domain that punishes errors.
- Signals: Proof route sits in the companion Portfolio Playbook and the prior cycle. Comp was flagged below floor last cycle and hasn't moved. The $700M mark and the doubling plan indicate real investment; the comp question is still the thing standing between this and an Act.
- Tier: Healthcare/Regulated (audit and compliance) — Tier Playbook: Read healthcare/regulated playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design 2, Trajectory 3). Role 11/15 (Comp 1, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 3).
- Portfolio match: The design problem is the handoff: an auditor has to trust the agent's first pass, verify it without redoing it, and override cleanly when the agent is wrong. Carrier IQ shows you've designed that pattern. Thermo Fisher shows the harder part — expert users with entrenched mental models who adopted anyway, 100% across six pharma partners. Auditors have the same disposition. The adoption number is the proof point their evaluator will care about, not the interface work.
- Verdict: Watch. Company scores 11/12; comp is the blocker. If comp resolves above floor, this moves to Act the same day.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified | Move: Compete | Proof: Thermo Fisher expert adoption + Agentic Labs Carrier IQ + TinyFish agent governance
11. Giga. Voice AI agents for customer support, handling complex multi-step service interactions. DoorDash is a confirmed customer.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series A ($61M, Nov 2025, Redpoint). 51–200 employees.
- Offices: San Francisco.
- Value chain: Midstream platform — voice agent infrastructure for enterprise support.
- Best at: Automated resolution rates in complex support workflows; the company claims 98%, which I have not independently verified.
- Signals: Staff Product Designer posted July 15, 25 days old, inside the Watch band. $240K–$260K plus bonus and equity. The mandate is broad: large surface area, enterprise research, product strategy influence, design system evolution, and conversational/agentic interface work with no established patterns to inherit. The Portfolio Playbook carries a proof route. Series A carries execution risk per the rubric, but comp clears the floor and the scope is real.
- Tier: AI-native — Tier Playbook: Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 9/12 (AI 3, Stage 2, Design 1, Trajectory 3). Role 12/15 (Comp 2, Scope 2, Craft 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio 2).
- Portfolio match: Voice is where agent trust gets hardest — no visible reasoning, no undo, and the user is mid-conversation. Carrier IQ is the agentic proof. The structural analog is Alibaba.com, where the platform mediated between buyers, suppliers, and its own policy layer — the same three-party bind Giga's agent sits in, arbitrating between a delivery worker, a consumer, and company policy in one call. TinyFish agent-trace work gives you language for how agents reason and where they fail, which is the conversation their engineering lead will want.
- Verdict: Watch. Live Staff role, strong AI exposure, comp above floor, but Series A stage and almost no public visibility into the design org. Confirm the posting is still active before you send anything.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: verified, aging | Move: Compete | Proof: Agentic Labs Carrier IQ + Alibaba multi-stakeholder + TinyFish agent traces
Resolve
Live signals exist at all four, but each has something unresolved that changes the approach. The action is a targeted question to a person, not an application.
12. Brex. Financial software platform for growing companies — corporate cards, expense management, travel, bill pay.
- Signals: A Staff Product Designer requisition is live on Brex's own careers site (SF/Seattle/NYC, $240K–$300K). That contradicts the prior cycle's conclusion that Brex had no qualifying signal, and it sits awkwardly against the equity-window analysis holding that the Capital One acquisition removed the pre-IPO upside. Both are true at once. The requisition is real; the reason Brex was on your list isn't. Post-acquisition, Stage/equity scores 1, which drops the company to 7/12 and below the Watch threshold.
- Verdict: Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: the acquisition structure preserves independent equity, or Brex operates as a subsidiary with its own option pool. Public evidence doesn't currently support either, so treat this as unlikely rather than open.
- Fit: Ignore | Signal: conflicted — role live, thesis dead | Move: Resolve | Proof: N/A
13. HackerOne. Bug bounty and vulnerability coordination platform for enterprise cybersecurity.
- Signals: Director, AI Product Design is live. Reports to the CPO, leads a team, covers AI-native cybersecurity and agentic operational work, and names human oversight, accountability, transparent AI, and design-system development in the requirements. $270K–$300K in SF, $243K–$297K elsewhere in the US, plus equity. The mandate is one of the better ones on the board. What I couldn't get is an original publication date — aggregators disagree materially and Ashby doesn't expose it here.
- Verdict: Watch, date unresolved. If it's 30 days old, this is a strong Watch and you approach as a live search. At 60+ days the slate is assembled and the message has to do different work. Get the date before you spend effort on the message.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: conflicted, undated | Move: Resolve | Proof: Agentic Labs + "Trust Is the New Interface" + TinyFish agent governance
14. Maven Clinic. Virtual women's and family health platform.
- Signals: Senior Staff Product Designer is live on Greenhouse. Two dates compete: third-party records place the original around June 22–23 (47–48 days, past Ignore), and another index shows a duplicate or repost around July 6 (34 days, Watch). Maven's careers page doesn't surface the underlying Greenhouse date.
- Verdict: Watch, date conflicted. Which date governs matters more than the classification. If July 6 is a genuine repost after a failed first slate, the hiring committee has learned something about what it couldn't find, and your opening line shifts from applicant enthusiasm to a read on what the first round probably lacked.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: conflicted, competing dates | Move: Resolve | Proof: Thermo Fisher regulated 0→1 + TinyFish healthcare-adjacent AI currency
15. Adobe. Enterprise creative and document platform spanning Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud.
- Signals: Staff Product Designer, Marketing Ideation (R169358) shows "Posted 10 Days Ago" on Workday, roughly July 30, which puts it in the hot window. A syndicated record dates the same requisition to June 17, which would put it at 53 days and past Ignore. The role builds AI-native strategic-ideation experiences for enterprise marketing teams, pays $189K–$274K in California, and asks for prototyping with Claude, Cursor, and Codex. Separately, the Senior Staff PD, Emerging Agents page reports the role filled while Adobe's design landing page still links to it — a reason to treat Adobe's own surfaces as lagging indicators.
- Verdict: Watch, date conflicted. If the Workday date reflects a real repost, the opening is diagnostic: ask what changed in the brief. If June governs, it's stale and not worth the effort. Resolve first.
- Fit: Watch | Signal: conflicted, competing dates | Move: Resolve | Proof: Alibaba enterprise platform influence + Agentic Labs AI-native interaction design + TinyFish production AI prototyping
Shape
One company has conditions favoring a conversation before a role exists: hot funding, no visible design leadership, and stale design-engineer postings that suggest a first attempt at hiring didn't close. Giga appears above under Watch on the strength of its live Staff role; the Shape logic applies there only to relationship-building beyond that posting.
16. HappyRobot. Enterprise AI agent platform deploying voice, chat, and back-office workflow agents across logistics, utilities, airlines, finance, insurance, and manufacturing.
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series C ($150M, Aug 4, Prysm Capital and Eurazeo) at a $1.2B post-money valuation. ~$200M total raised. 150+ enterprise customers claimed.
- Offices: SF, Chicago, NYC plus five non-US offices. Bay Area presence confirmed.
- Value chain: Midstream platform — enterprise voice and workflow agent infrastructure. Design scope would cover agent behavior surfaces, governance and audit tooling, and the operator interfaces where humans supervise agent actions.
- Best at: Running enterprise voice agents through multi-step workflows with a governance layer — adversarial testing, audits, behavioral evaluation — that most voice-AI companies haven't built.
- Signals: The Series C is five days old, inside the 0–14 day funding window. Two Product Design Engineer postings are still listed but date to 43–45 days ago, past the posting threshold. No named design leader is publicly visible. That combination — new unicorn valuation, no design leadership on record, stale design postings — reads as a first hiring attempt that didn't close. Moderate confidence; I can't confirm it from public signal alone. Either way the funding attention window is open until roughly Aug 18.
- Tier: AI-native — Tier Playbook: Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 (AI 3, Stage 3, Design 1, Trajectory 3). Role: none posted.
- Portfolio match: The governance layer is the design problem — adversarial testing, audits, behavioral evaluation are all currently engineering artifacts with no human-facing surface worth the name. "Trust Is the New Interface" and the Agentic Labs set (Brand Pulse, Retail Velocity, Carrier IQ) give you published evidence that you've designed trust architecture for agent systems. And you handle agent traces and audit functions in production at TinyFish, which lets you describe where those surfaces break from firsthand experience.
- Verdict: Shape. Outreach before Aug 18, while the round is still generating inbound attention. Frame the design leadership gap directly and lead on governance and trust. Do not ask about an open role; there isn't one.
- Fit: Shape | Signal: verified — funding hot, roles stale | Move: Shape | Proof: "Trust Is the New Interface" + Agentic Labs + TinyFish governance-in-production
Downgrades
17. Ambience. AI clinical documentation and ambient listening for healthcare. Previously Watch. Anchoring design posting passed 43 days. Downgraded to Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: new design posting or a design leadership hire announcement.
18. Ramp. Corporate card and spend management. Director, Product Design posted June 8, now 62 days. Downgraded to Ignore-until-trigger. Trigger: reposted Director role or a new Staff+ design posting.
19. Dropbox. Cloud storage and productivity platform. Public (Nasdaq: DBX). Revenue down 1.1% in FY2025, headcount from 2,204 to 2,113 following a 20% reduction in Oct 2024. A Director, Product Design role covering design systems and AI-assisted experiences is live, and the company is virtual-first. Company rubric 6/12 (AI 2, Stage 1, Design 2, Trajectory 1). Below Watch threshold. Trigger: revenue inflection or a VP Design hire signaling renewed investment.
20. Freshworks. Customer and IT service management platform. Public. New CPTO Ryan Manning starts Aug 10, but the announcement doesn't mention design and SVP Design & Research Kedar Shiroor's reporting line isn't public. The Senior Director search is Bengaluru-based. Geographic fail, and below threshold regardless. Trigger: US-based design leadership posting.
21. Omnicell. Healthcare automation. Staff Product Designer is remote, so the geographic filter passes, but the company scores 6/12 (AI 1, Stage 1, Design 2, Trajectory 2). Below Watch threshold. Trigger: evidence of an AI-central product pivot or design org investment.
Monitoring — Priority Targets, No Qualifying Signal
22. Anthropic. No Staff/Principal product design or design leadership role posted. The one visible design opening is a web Design Engineer on marketing. Check weekly.
23. Rubrik. Director, Product Design in Palo Alto is still listed under the same requisition ID it carried in February — 160+ days. Describes a roughly 60-person global design org. Treat as stale. Trigger: new requisition ID or a new Staff+ posting.
24. Salesforce. Principal PD, Agentforce Revenue Management (March 18) and Lead PD, Agentforce (June 2) are live and aging. Nothing new in August.
25. Atlassian. Principal Product Designer, Jira Service Management is Bengaluru-based. Geographic fail. Trigger: US or remote-eligible Principal or Staff posting.
26. Suno. Senior/Staff Design Engineer, iOS is live at $220K–$280K plus equity, 11 days old, but production SwiftUI/UIKit is a hard gate. High rubric scores don't average away a binary qualification. Trigger: a role without the iOS production requirement, or a leadership role that doesn't name a platform.
27. Abridge. AI clinical documentation. The Staff Product Designer record dates to September 2025. Stale. Check weekly.
28. Zoox. Autonomous vehicles, Amazon subsidiary. No qualifying product design leadership role on the current careers page. Check weekly.
Board Summary
Act, outreach this week: OpenAI Payments, OpenAI Engineering Acceleration, Headway Staff CRM, Stripe Agentic Commerce, Amplitude, Gusto (expiring Wednesday), Vanta (aging; Battlecard says move now).
Watch, monitor and prepare: Babylist, Capital One, Handshake, Fieldguide, Giga.
Resolve before committing: HackerOne (undated), Maven Clinic (competing dates), Adobe (competing dates), Brex (thesis dead).
Shape: HappyRobot, window closing around Aug 18.
Downgraded: Ambience, Ramp, Dropbox, Freshworks, Omnicell.
No signal: Anthropic, Rubrik, Salesforce, Atlassian, Suno, Abridge, Zoox.
The prior cycle counted thirty-five scoreable and four actionable. This one: twenty-eight entries, seven Act, five Watch, four Resolve, one Shape. OpenAI and the Headway cluster account for most of the change, and both were quiet a week ago.
- Freshworks CPTO starts Monday: Ryan Manning begins as Chief Product and Technology Officer on August 10 at Freshworks, and the first 30 days will reveal whether design reports into his mandate or remains a separate function under SVP Kedar Shiroor.
- ATS timestamps measure republication: Ashby's
publishedAtfield records when a job was last published, not first posted, which means the decay clock on any Ashby-sourced signal may be measuring an administrative event rather than elapsed hiring time. - Vacancy duration is ambiguous: Research on online job postings finds that older listings are less likely to represent real vacancies because filled ads often aren't withdrawn, but a long-open posting can also indicate recruiting difficulty where a late, well-matched candidate still has leverage.
- Dropbox VP Design succession unresolved: A recruiter post advertised a VP of Design, Core search at Dropbox, but no public announcement confirms whether the position was filled, which would change the design-investment signal if a new VP arrives and posts leadership roles.
