Twenty companies on the active list have qualifying signals. Four are contactable now. Seven have live roles but no identified decision-maker. The rest are blocked by stale postings, missing openings, or structural changes that invalidate the original thesis.
Three patterns across this sweep:
Buyer verification is the bottleneck. You have a name at roughly a third of your targets. Cover letters, positioning angles, resume emphasis — all of it waits on that name.
Your strongest-scoring targets have the worst buyer visibility. Anthropic has no qualifying role. Stripe has two Senior Staff roles and no identified design executive. The AI-native tier — where your rubric scores are highest and your forward-looking artifacts matter most — is where you're most blocked.
Aging roles with known buyers need a process-check probe, not a full application package. A complete submission into a 36-day-old role risks landing on a shortlist that already formed. Hook on the buyer's public thinking, name the design problem, ask whether the search is active. Lighter touch, same connection made.
The daily queue of 3 is achievable — but portfolio-build work and buyer identification count as queue actions, not just finished outreach.
Send this week: Capital One, OpenAI, Vanta, Headway
These four have what outreach requires: a qualifying role posted within the last 30 days, a named or strongly inferred buyer, and positioning signal specific enough to draft from.
Capital One — Director, Product Design: AI in Experience Design, posted August 21. Daniela Jorge is the executive buyer. Patrick Dohan is the operational route. The full battlecard is published. Monday.
OpenAI — Product Design Lead, Growth: Codex, posted August 18. Ian Silber is the design-buyer route. His August 16 podcast is the real job description — the previous scan documented the two-day gap between that podcast and the Codex posting. Tuesday.
Vanta — Director of Product Design posted August 25; Head of Design posted July 6. Jeremy Epling is confirmed as the Head search's hiring manager. The Director posting is four days old. The design problem: trust and verification surfaces for automated compliance — where humans need to understand what automated systems are checking and when to intervene. Lead with the Trust essay and Carrier IQ as the regulated-domain proof of the framework in production. Thermo Fisher anchors the regulated-environment credibility. Wednesday.
Headway — Roland Tiangco is the strongest provider-scope route. Roles posted August 14–19. The core design problem is three-party delegation — provider, agent, patient — where per-action human review is structurally impossible. That maps directly to the Trust essay's decision-gate handoff applied to healthcare. Lead with Carrier IQ (regulated + agentic automation) and the Trust essay's boundary framework. Thermo Fisher is your healthcare-adjacent proof. Thursday.
Seven targets are buyer-blocked
Each has a qualifying role. The portfolio mapping is workable. No named design hiring manager has surfaced — checked across company blog author pages, personal portfolio sites, Dive Club, ADPList, and conference speaker archives.
- Stripe — Two Senior Staff Product Designer roles. No design executive identified. Strongest rubric scores among the blocked seven.
- Salesforce — Lead Product Designer for Qualified AI, posted 9 days ago. No named design manager inside the acquired Qualified team. Most time-sensitive of the seven because of posting freshness.
- Suno — Senior/Staff role at 116 days. The Head of Product Design posting disappeared — either the search closed or the role was redefined. Unknown which.
- Abridge — Staff Product Designer at 361 days. A posting this old is either perpetually open or filled and not removed. Low confidence.
- Adobe — Staff and Director roles for Frame.io and Firefly, all aging (43–166 days).
- Redesign Health — Staff and Director roles. No buyer identified, no comp data for the Director.
- Brex — See below. The buyer problem is secondary to a bigger structural change.
Buyer-identification research, 15 minutes per company, same source set. Prioritize Salesforce (freshest posting) and Stripe (strongest rubric scores) for your first two research slots.
Known buyers, aging roles — Midjourney, Gusto, Ramp, Amplitude
Midjourney — Banu Guler, CDO, is the clearest direct buyer on the entire target list. The Design Lead role posted July 24. At 36 days, a standard application doesn't feel current.
Gusto — Amy Thibodeau is the strongest sponsor. Head of Product Design posted July 22. Same aging dynamic.
Ramp — Director, Product Design posted June 8, now 82 days old. Diego Zaks is inferred as VP Design from Ramp's blog author page, but the requisition doesn't confirm he manages this search. $320K–$440K plus equity. Strong comp, strong rubric scores, weak buyer certainty, stale posting.
Amplitude — Head of Product Design last updated July 7, now 53 days old. $317K–$476K in SF/NY. Recently arrived CPO Gab Menachem is the strongest buyer hypothesis, not a confirmed reporting manager. The role describes a 15-person team and the problem of coordinating human and agent work without letting AI-generated interface volume erode quality.
For all four: lead with the buyer's public thinking, name the specific design problem, and ask whether the search is still active. You're in the conversation without the dead-letter risk of a full package into a stale pipeline. If the role closed, you've made the connection for whatever opens next.
No qualifying opening — Anthropic and Atlassian
Anthropic has no Staff+ or design-leadership product design role posted. The freshest listing is a Product Designer, Core Apps — below threshold.
Atlassian's Loom Lead Product Designer returned HTTP 410 on the application endpoint. Dead link, dead role.
Both move to monitor-only. Anthropic is worth a daily careers-page check. When the posting appears, it will likely be the single highest-value opportunity on the board.
Brex — the equity thesis collapsed
Capital One completed its acquisition of Brex on April 7, 2026. Three Staff Product Designer postings still appear on its Greenhouse feed, including Staff Product Designer, AI. But the company rubric scored Brex partly on stage-and-equity-window as a pre-IPO target with meaningful equity at an accelerating valuation. That premise is gone.
The roles may still be worth pursuing on craft depth and AI exposure. The equity upside that made Brex Act-tier no longer exists. Reclassify to Watch. Re-score when post-acquisition equity mechanics are public.
Docusign — CPO arrived, design search hasn't followed
Graham Sheldon started as CPO on July 6. Both design-leadership postings — a Senior Director, PLG at 102 days and a Lead Product Designer at 159 days — predate him. No new design requisition has appeared since. He's 54 days in. Monitor for a new posting in the next 30 days.
The rest of the list
Roughly 13 companies beyond the 20 covered here have no qualifying role posted and no recent trigger signal. Dormant monitoring until a posting, executive hire, or funding event creates a reason to move.
Your queue structure for the week
Four send-ready companies. After Thursday, the full-package pipeline is empty unless you convert buyer-blocked or aging targets into contactable ones.
Three action types, one of each daily:
Send — one full outreach package to a buyer-verified target. Capital One Monday, OpenAI Tuesday, Vanta Wednesday, Headway Thursday.
Research — one 15-minute buyer-identification sweep on a blocked company. Start with Salesforce, then Stripe.
Build — one portfolio artifact session. The forward-looking artifacts (interaction models, decision flows for frontier AI problems) are what differentiate your outreach to AI-native targets from every other candidate's. Until they're published at junochen.com, lead with Agentic Labs and the Trust essay — both are live and linkable now. Each artifact you ship before reaching Stripe or Salesforce makes that eventual message stronger.
Converting buyer-blocked targets into contactable ones creates more outreach surface area than writing messages. Stripe and Salesforce both have live roles, strong rubric scores, and AI-central mandates. The distance between you and outreach at either company is one name.
- Vanta's layered authority question: The Director of Product Design and the still-open Head of Design create an unresolved reporting relationship — whether the Director reports to the future Head, another design leader, or Product will determine the role's actual scope ceiling.
- Stripe's OpenRouter acquisition signal: Stripe's August 19 agreement to acquire OpenRouter — which routes requests across 400+ models from 80+ providers — creates a fresh company-level trigger around model choice and control that could reshape the Data & AI design mandate.
- Salesforce's Qualified posting conflict: The Principal Product Designer, Qualified posting says applications closed July 30 but remains in the live feed alongside the fresher Lead posting — worth confirming which role is actually accepting candidates before investing outreach time.
- Docusign's 30-day watch window: Graham Sheldon's appointment as CPO explicitly places design under his organization, and his 54-day tenure puts him in the range where new CPOs typically begin posting their own requisitions.
