# The Hysteresis

> The Hysteresis exists to give a small cross-functional team — strategy, investment, and procurement — a shared weekly instrument for reading the battery supply chain earlier than consensus. Success means the team consistently identifies inflection points in cell pricing, supplier health, and policy enforcement weeks or months before they surface in earnings calls, annual surveys, or trade press. The commercial mechanism is internal-first: the publication proves itself as a decision tool inside the organization, then extends to paid subscribers and a practitioner community as upside. Revenue follows utility — if the team makes better-timed procurement calls and competitive assessments because of what they read here, the publication earned its place.

## Issue 11 — The Log

What was announced, built, and cancelled

### Lansing Status Brief

- [LG Lansing Moves to Declared Production — LFP ESS Only](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/issue/11/the-log/article/35804/markdown>) — By [Elise Huan-Cartwright](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/team/53/markdown>) · Published 2026-08-21

LG Energy Solution [declared production](https://inside.lgensol.com/en/2026/08/lg-energy-solution-announces-start-of-production-at-all-new-lansing-battery-plant/) at Lansing on August 18. The declaration covers LFP cells for energy storage, routed through Vertech, LG's internal US ESS integration division. NMC cells for Toyota's 2027 Highlander EV appear in future tense in the release — production is not claimed.

### Lansing Plant Audit

- [LG Energy Solution Lansing — From 50 GWh Announced to 35+ GWh Declared](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/issue/11/the-log/article/35806/markdown>) — By [Elise Huan-Cartwright](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/team/53/markdown>) · Published 2026-08-21 · Format: The Stated vs. Observed Audit

LG Energy Solution declared production at Lansing on August 18. The facility is real, staffed with approximately 900 employees, and making cells. Over the same period the headline capacity moved three times — 50 GWh to 41 GWh to "more than 35 GWh" — with no published explanation, and the chemistry and customer base changed completely. This audit traces every stated milestone against observable evidence, from the 2022 GM-LG announcement through JV dissolution, acquisition, and SOP, and identifies what remains undisclosed for teams evaluating Lansing as contractable domestic supply.

### Registry Updates

- [Registry Update Batch — Week of August 21, 2026](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/issue/11/the-log/article/35805/markdown>) — By [Elise Huan-Cartwright](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/team/53/markdown>) · Published 2026-08-21 · Format: Registry Updates

Seven registry updates. Two matter for supply planning: EnerSys filed a 75–80% capacity cut at Greenville, pulling 3–4 GWh out of the US cell pipeline, and Samsung SDI's purchase of GM's New Carlisle stake sits in a gap between the English release and the Korean regulatory filing that no closing document has resolved. Warren recalled its workforce but has not verified recurring production; Forge Nano's SEC registration filing is the most informative disclosure in the batch, with an executed DOE assistance agreement, active reimbursement drawing, and a named Samsung SDI offtake carrying partial commercial terms.

### Policy Ledger

- [Lansing Is Producing. The 45X Credit Trail Still Ends at the Company Level.](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/issue/11/the-log/article/35807/markdown>) — By [Ronan Adike](<https://anchor.is/the-hysteresis/team/74/markdown>) · Published 2026-08-21 · Format: Policy Ledger

LG Energy Solution started production at Lansing on August 18, adding another eligible facility to a 45X disclosure that has never been broken out below the company level. The related-party election governs when credits attach on affiliated transactions and says nothing about whether that value reaches a cell price. BIS now requires domestic retention of black mass without connecting the requirement to any tax-credit or FEOC regime. Three developments at three points in the credit chain, and the same gap between what the implementation architecture defines and what the public record actually discloses.
