Board as of September 12, 2026. Seventeen qualifying roles across twelve companies. Five clear Act, two more than last week's inventory. Eight of the seventeen went up September 2–4, the last business days before Labor Day. A posting scheduled into a holiday week usually means the headcount is already approved and someone wants candidates in the pipeline when the office reopens.
Replit enters the board as a net-new discovery. C12/R15 — tied with OpenAI for the highest combined score in the current pool, and the only one inside the hot window. It wasn't on your target list. Flag for a Battlecard.
Four retirements (Anthropic, Suno, Amplitude, Ramp). Those four were absorbing scan time every morning and producing no outreach candidates.
Route Now
Five roles with anchoring signals in their hot windows, ranked by where your evidence is strongest. Replit and Handshake take the first two contacts: Replit for the score, Handshake because its design problem maps directly to the Trust essay. Stripe and Brex are pre-IPO Staff+ seats where design reports high enough to shape direction. Gusto clears the rubric but carries a title question you should resolve before you write anything.
1. Replit — Director of Product Design. Agentic software-creation platform where users describe what they want in natural language and the system generates, deploys, and hosts the application. Posted August 25 (18 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series D, $9B valuation (March 2026), $400M raised. Targeting $1B ARR by year-end (company statement).
- Offices: Foster City, CA (hybrid Mon/Wed/Fri).
- Value chain: Vertically integrated: creation, hosting, deployment. Design scope runs the whole surface, from how a user states intent through the generated output to managing a live application.
- Best at: Collapsing the distance between "I want an app" and a running application. The hard design work sits in what happens after the generation comes back wrong.
- Signals: Director of Product Design posted August 25. $400M Series D closed March 2026. No design leadership "I'm hiring" signal located.
- Tier: AI-native. Tier Playbook: Read AI-native playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 12/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 15/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3. Comp note: a16z aggregator shows $275K–$350K; no range on the employer's Ashby record.
- Portfolio match: Replit's failure mode is a generated application that doesn't match what the user meant. The Trust essay's central finding governs that surface: users anchor to the worst outcome, not the average one, so a single broken build outweighs ten working ones and the revision loop has to be fast enough that a miss reads as iteration rather than a reason to leave. Brand Pulse is the live proof of designing what a human watching an agent needs to see. Alibaba's +20% transaction lift shows she builds executive mandate and ships at that scale. The combination of a trust framework, production agent experience, and a working example someone can open in a browser is what separates this portfolio from the field.
- Verdict: Act. Not on your target list — flag for a Battlecard. The co-founder reporting line and the hands-on craft expectation match your IC+manager profile. Lead with the Trust essay and Brand Pulse. Use TinyFish as the production credibility bridge, past tense.
2. Handshake — Staff Product Designer, Student Experience. Three-sided network connecting students, schools, and employers. The product is moving from an assistant that offers suggestions a student accepts or rejects to an agent that takes action on the student's behalf. Posted September 4 (8 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private (Series F). Pre-IPO with meaningful equity.
- Offices: San Francisco (hybrid).
- Value chain: Downstream end-user marketplace. The role sits on the student side, at the boundary where recommendations turn into actions.
- Best at: Dominant position in early-career talent matching at scale.
- Signals: Three design roles in the Careers Design team inside six weeks (Staff PD July 30, Senior PD II and this role September 4). CPO Vee Sahgal is the executive product route; no design-specific leader identified publicly.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform. Tier Playbook: Read Growth-stage platform playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 14/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3. Comp note: Ashby shows no range; LinkedIn employer copy shows $190K–$240K base.
- Portfolio match: The posting describes the authority boundary the five handoffs framework was written to address. Handshake is deciding right now which delegated actions ship behind a confirmation gate and which ship without one, and the student has to be able to feel the difference between something suggested and something already done in their name. She published that framework before this role existed, which is a different kind of evidence than having worked on a comparable feature. Brand Pulse shows the oversight pattern for agent-initiated action running in production.
- Verdict: Act. The most precisely defined design problem on the board. Lead with the handoff framework, then Brand Pulse. Route through CPO Vee Sahgal.
3. Stripe — Senior Staff Product Designer, Dashboard Studio. Payments infrastructure. The "Studio" in the title points to framework-level work on merchant-facing surfaces rather than a feature team. Posted September 2 (10 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO, $159B tender-offer valuation (2025). Significant equity window.
- Offices: Remote, US.
- Value chain: Midstream infrastructure between businesses and payment networks.
- Best at: Developer experience for payments. The API-first model that turned payment integration into default infrastructure.
- Signals: Senior Staff PD posted September 2. No other design leadership posting in the same window.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform. Tier Playbook: Read Growth-stage platform playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 3. Comp: $228K–$343K base, equity and bonus additional.
- Portfolio match: Dashboard Studio has to serve a solo founder checking one transaction and an enterprise finance team reconciling thousands, on one surface. That is the architectural problem she solved at Alibaba.com, where the same redesign carried small importers and enterprise procurement teams across $50B+ in GMV, and the +20% transaction lift is the proof the trust architecture converted. The Alibaba work also treated homepage, search, and PDP as one connected system rather than three projects, which is what a Studio mandate requires.
- Verdict: Act. Remote US, pre-IPO, Senior Staff IC. Lead with Alibaba.
4. Brex — Staff Product Designer. Corporate spend management: cards, expenses, bill pay, travel, budgets. Posted September 2 (10 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Pre-IPO, Series D+. Significant equity.
- Offices: San Francisco, New York, Seattle (hybrid).
- Value chain: Midstream platform between companies and their financial activity.
- Best at: The integrated financial stack for companies that have outgrown a basic corporate card.
- Signals: Staff PD posted September 2 across three cities. One mandate, three locations.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform. Tier Playbook: Read Growth-stage platform playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 10/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 3. Comp: $240K–$300K base, equity may be included.
- Portfolio match: At Brex an approval error is a financial event and a compliance event at the same time, which changes what the workflow has to show before someone commits. Carrier IQ is the closest thing in the portfolio: agentic automation inside regulated financial work, where the system selects coverage and the user has to be able to trust or reject that selection. Alibaba carries the enterprise platform scale underneath it. Few candidates have both regulated-financial automation experience and enterprise B2B scale in the same portfolio.
- Verdict: Act. Pre-IPO, $240K+ base, SF hybrid. Lead with Carrier IQ, support with Alibaba.
5. Gusto — Senior Product Design Manager, Banking. Payroll and HR for small businesses, now extending into embedded banking: payroll-linked accounts, cashflow tools. Posted September 4 (8 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Late-stage private, $10B+ valuation. Pre-IPO with meaningful equity.
- Offices: San Francisco, New York, Denver.
- Value chain: Midstream platform between SMBs and employment and financial infrastructure. Banking is the expansion surface.
- Best at: Making payroll simple enough that a five-person company runs it without an accountant.
- Signals: Senior PDM Banking posted September 4. The "Banking" qualifier reads as a product expansion rather than a backfill.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform. Tier Playbook: Read Growth-stage platform playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 11/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 3, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 14/15 — Total comp 3, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 3. Craft depth 3 reflects the posting's explicit hands-on requirement through the SMB Banking beta. Comp: $178K–$253K cash in SF/NY, RSUs separate.
- Portfolio match: Gusto has to make a banking product feel trustworthy to an owner who is already at capacity on payroll, and it has to do that across an employer admin view and an employee view that read as one product. Allē is the direct structural match: dual-surface, provider and consumer, 30M members, with the same requirement that a complicated financial mechanism feel simple on both sides. The 3.2× redemption lift is the number that speaks to this evaluator, because it measures whether the consumer side actually trusted it.
- Verdict: Act, with a title gate. The rubric clears, but "Senior Product Design Manager" may mean pure people management rather than the IC+manager hybrid the craft-depth score assumes. Resolve that before you spend outreach time. Lead with Allē if you proceed.
Gate
Four roles score Watch with a named condition that would move them to Act. The Slack VP role carries the highest role score on the board and the gate is a location contradiction you can resolve with one question. ServiceNow posted three design leadership roles inside three days, which is a coordinated org build, but the company score sits one point under Act on AI centrality.
6. Slack / Salesforce — VP Product Design IC / Principal Architect. Enterprise messaging platform designing multi-party agent authority surfaces. Posted September 2 (10 days).
- Offices: The employer page lists San Francisco only. Hiring manager Michael Lenahan's September 4 post says "San Francisco, CA (or remote)." Unresolved.
- Tier: Enterprise platform. Tier Playbook: Read Enterprise platform playbook before outreach.
- Rubric: Company 8/12. Role 15/15. Comp: $258K–$496K base depending on market. Separately, Salesforce has a US-remote Lead PD for Qualified AI Products (Piper, autonomous AI sales agent). Outside the board's title filter, but the AI-agent mandate is worth a look.
- Portfolio match: Covered in the Issue #10 Opportunity Readiness Brief. Trust framework and Brand Pulse for multi-party agent authority, Alibaba for enterprise-scale leadership proof.
- Verdict: Gate. Gate condition: confirm remote eligibility. If Lenahan's "or remote" holds, this upgrades on the spot at R15. You're Bay Area, so SF-only doesn't block you either way. Resolve it anyway, because an employer page and a hiring manager describing the same role differently usually means the scope isn't settled internally.
7–9. ServiceNow — three design leadership roles. Enterprise workflow automation. All posted September 2–3 (9–10 days).
ServiceNow is public, $180B+ market cap, sitting midstream on workflow automation across IT, HR, customer service, and security. Three design leadership roles in one week reads as a coordinated build, probably acquisition-driven. Company score: 9/12 — AI centrality 2, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. One gate covers all three: if AI centrality moves from 2 to 3, meaning evidence that agents are becoming the core product direction rather than a platform feature, the company score hits 10 and these become Act. The three-role cluster already supports a design influence score of 3. What's missing is proof that AI is the business.
7. Director, Product Design — Customer & Partner Experience. Role 13/15. Comp: $221K–$387K base. Santa Clara; confirm hybrid flexibility. Tier: Enterprise platform. Portfolio match: making a portal cohere across acquired products is the Alibaba problem again, one surface assembled from parts that were never designed together. The mandate-building sequence there (named the gap, secured executive sponsorship, ran three cross-functional sprints) is what a Director needs to do across teams she doesn't own.
8. Principal Product Designer — SalesCRM. Role 15/15. Comp: $221K–$387K base. Santa Clara; confirm hybrid flexibility. Tier: Enterprise platform. Portfolio match: an AI-native CRM layered over complicated B2B sales workflows. Alibaba for the workflow complexity, the Trust essay for the moment a rep acts on a recommendation without checking it first. Highest role score in the cluster.
9. Senior Staff Product Designer — Security and Risk Workflow. Role 15/15. Comp: $191K–$334K base. Santa Clara; confirm hybrid flexibility. Tier: Enterprise platform. Portfolio match: autonomous remediation oversight, where the system detects and acts and the analyst has to reconstruct what happened and decide whether to intervene. That's Watch–Verify–Delegate applied to security operations. Thermo Fisher's exception-first pattern (197 orders, surface the three that matter) is the same triage discipline alert queues need.
Monitor
Three discoveries from the VC portfolio scan. All clear Watch, none reaches Act. Track them; no outreach yet.
10. Apollo GraphQL — Senior Staff Product Designer. API management platform (GraphOS) for enterprise supergraphs, moving toward agent-consumed API interfaces. The thing calling the API is increasingly an agent rather than a developer. Posted September 10 (2 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series D ($130M, 2021). No newer financing disclosed. Remote US.
- Tier: Growth-stage platform.
- Rubric: Company 7/12 — AI centrality 1, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 11/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 2, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 2, Portfolio value 2. Comp note: a16z aggregator shows $200K–$240K; no employer-posted range.
- Portfolio match: The design problem is bounding what an autonomous agent can reach as it traverses a graph. The Trust framework applies, but the user is a developer and the surface is infrastructure, which makes this a weaker match than most entries here.
- Verdict: Monitor. Freshest posting on the board and the weakest scores in the Monitor group. Watch for a design leadership hire or a new round.
11. Thatch — Head of Product Design. ICHRA platform and marketplace: employers fund a benefits budget, employees pick individual health plans. Posted August 26 (17 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Series B, $40M (April 2025), $84.5M total. ~72 employees. Revenue 8× YoY. SF, NY, Austin, remote US.
- Tier: Healthcare/Regulated.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 0, Stage/equity 2, Design influence 3, Trajectory 3. Role 11/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 3, Craft depth 3, AI exposure 1, Portfolio value 2. Comp: $220K–$290K, employer-posted. The President interviews as hiring manager; the CEO is final.
- Portfolio match: Four stakeholder types (employers, employees, brokers, partners) on one regulated platform. American Red Cross is the structural proof: three roles sharing a single record for the first time, with identity verification and FEMA audit trails built in. Thermo Fisher adds the multi-partner coordination layer, six pharma partners on shared performance data. She has built regulated multi-stakeholder platforms from zero twice, both as Product Design Director at BCG Digital Ventures.
- Verdict: Monitor. Design influence and trajectory are real, but AI centrality is zero and the role does nothing for the positioning you're building. Watch for an AI product announcement.
12. Adobe — Senior Director of Design, Firefly. Commercially safe generative AI creative tools, model-agnostic image and video. The posting pairs agentic experiences with adoption and retention, which suggests Firefly is moving past generation into agent-assisted creative workflow. Posted August 19 (24 days).
- Stage / Size / Capital: Public, ~$200B market cap. RSU equity. San Francisco, San Jose.
- Tier: Enterprise platform.
- Rubric: Company 8/12 — AI centrality 3, Stage/equity 1, Design influence 2, Trajectory 2. Role 12/15 — Total comp 2, Scope 2, Craft depth 2, AI exposure 3, Portfolio value 3. Comp: $248K–$386K base in CA, equity eligible.
- Portfolio match: Firefly's worst case is a rights-violating image that ships inside a campaign — precisely the asymmetry the Trust essay describes, where one confident wrong output does damage a hundred clean ones don't repair, and the interface has to carry that weight before the asset leaves the tool. Brand Pulse shows the oversight pattern for autonomous output in a live system.
- Verdict: Monitor. Good AI exposure and portfolio value, but public-company equity caps the upside and the posting is entering the extended band at 24 days. Senior Director here is likely more strategic than hands-on. Watch for a recruiter approach or a posting refresh.
Approaching Recheck
Five roles past the hot window. Each would score Act on rubric alone. Each downgrades next cycle unless the signal refreshes.
13. OpenAI — Product Design Lead, Growth — Codex. 25 days. SF. C12/R15. Tier: AI-native. Comp: $347K–$405K base plus equity, the highest posted floor on the board. Portfolio match: Watch–Verify–Delegate is the adoption ladder for a coding agent, and Equinox+ (0→MVP in three months, five brands) is the proof she builds adoption surfaces at speed. If you haven't reached out, do it this cycle.
14. Headway — Senior/Staff Product Designer, Provider. 29 days. NYC; confirm Bay Area or remote eligibility before you spend time here. C10/R14. Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Portfolio match: Thermo Fisher's exception-first design maps to provider-side triage — prioritizing patients, flagging claims, surfacing overdue compliance items. Verify the posting is still live first.
15. Headway — Senior/Staff Product Designer, Patient. 29 days. NYC; same eligibility check. C10/R14. Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Portfolio match: Allē's consumer side at 30M members, tied to a provider surface, where consumer trust is what determines whether anyone engages. Approach both Headway roles together. Interest in the platform rather than one surface is the stronger signal at this level.
16. Flex — Principal Product Designer, Consumer. 22 days, corrected from the prior cycle (canonical date is August 21). New York, Bay Area, Salt Lake City (hybrid). C9/R13. Tier: Growth-stage platform. Comp: $240K–$300K base in NY/Bay Area. AI exposure confirmed at 1: the posting's AI language is about design process and standards, not a consumer-facing AI product. That closes the evidence gate from Issue #9. Portfolio match: Allē for consumer-scale financial behavior. Comp and craft depth are strong; the strategic value isn't.
17. Ethos Life — Director of Product Design, Agents. 38 days. Remote US; confirm Bay Area eligibility. C8/R13. Tier: Healthcare/Regulated. Portfolio match: Carrier IQ is the same domain and the same mechanism, InsurTech quote automation with agent-driven coverage selection. The tightest domain match on the board, and one cycle from retirement. Verify it's live before acting.
Retirements
Anthropic— the only current product design posting is Product Designer, Evals & Prompts, below the Staff+ threshold. Trigger to restore: a Staff+ or Director+ product design posting.Suno— Senior/Staff PD is 130 days old, New York and Los Angeles only. Retired on age and geography.Amplitude— Head of Product Design is 67 days old. Retired on age.Ramp— Director, Product Design is 96 days old, New York hybrid. Retired on age and geography.
- Handshake's documented product gap: The current student assistant explicitly does not apply for jobs on the user's behalf, while the vacancy describes an agent taking "meaningful action" — that gap is the strongest mandate signal on the board and the anchor for your outreach framing.
- Gusto's AI-native design shift: Gusto's design org published how its Cofounder AI teammate went from idea to closed beta in 11 weeks, which establishes the operational speed and AI commitment behind the Banking mandate you'd be entering.
- Stripe's agentic commerce context: Beyond Dashboard Studio, Stripe announced agent wallets and agentic-commerce infrastructure at Sessions 2026 alongside 288 product launches — platform context that shapes how you'd frame the Dashboard Studio role as part of a larger agent-infrastructure buildout.
- ServiceNow's acquisition integration: The completed Armis acquisition combines asset visibility, identity intelligence, and automated remediation — the specific capabilities the Security and Risk Workflow designer will be designing oversight surfaces for.
