Act Now targets: move by July 25. Verify targets: confirm by July 23.
Two design leadership postings dropped within 48 hours of each other last week. Both are day 12–13. Both map to your proof stack. Freshness is equal, so preparation cost breaks the tie. The posting that requires less tailoring gets your message first. You preserve the peak window on both instead of burning days on one perfect note while the other ages past its sell-by.
Vanta first. Amplitude by Wednesday.
Act Now
Vanta — Head of Design (day 13)
What changed: Head of Design posted July 6 on Ashby. 40-person design org. $365K–$513K comp band published. The posting language is specific in ways that matter: agentic UX, trust architecture, governance, compliance automation, design systems quality.
Why it matters: Your Trust essay names the exact design problem this company sells. Agentic Labs proves you've built in the space. Thermo Fisher and Red Cross prove you've shipped where trust is structural, not decorative. Tailoring cost approaches zero because the language match is already there.
Confidence: High. Direct posting, named org size, comp band published.
Window: Days 13–21 are peak. Past day 25 the competitive field is assembled and first-mover advantage collapses.
Worth flagging: Deb Kawamoto is listed as VP of Design on Vanta's design careers page. Hiring a Head of Design with a VP in seat means successor search, parallel track, or restructuring. Don't try to resolve this in outreach. It changes the org chart, not your candidacy.
Move:
(a) Who: Start with Kawamoto. Even if she's departing, she's the named design leader and almost certainly involved in selecting her successor. A design-to-design message lands differently than a cold note to a CPO. If the message goes unanswered by day 5, route to Jeremy Epling (CPO, design in scope per his First Round interview). Kawamoto's September 2025 Dovetail interview is the recognition cue: she framed Vanta's design challenge as rooted in trust rather than technical verification, emphasized human-in-the-loop AI for compliance automation, described security as an "invisible layer" of customer experience.
(b) Warm path: Cold. Check for shared Sequoia connections. Vanta is Sequoia-backed.
(c) Opening message (cold, to Kawamoto):
"Deb — your Dovetail interview reframed something I've been writing about: that in AI-native compliance, trust isn't a feature layer, it's the product architecture itself. I published a framework for this in June ('Trust Is the New Interface' — five handoffs for agentic systems) and built the design proof at Agentic Labs, where I led trust design for three agent products now live. I'm currently Head of Product at TinyFish (enterprise web agents, Series A), shipping agent governance and auditability daily. Vanta's Head of Design role maps directly to this work. Would 20 minutes make sense this week or next?"
If Kawamoto doesn't respond by day 5, send to Epling:
"Jeremy — your First Round conversation about staying in the details and setting the quality bar stayed with me. I've been doing both at the intersection of trust design and agentic AI: three agent products shipped at Agentic Labs (junochen.com), a published framework on trust architecture for agentic systems, and current production work on agent governance at TinyFish. Vanta's Head of Design role is the specific problem I want to solve next. Worth a brief conversation?"
(d) What not to say: Don't ask about the VP-to-Head-of-Design title ambiguity. If it's a succession, she'll surface it. That question sounds like you're negotiating authority before you've earned the conversation.
Amplitude — Head of Product Design (day 12)
What changed: Head of Product Design posted July 7 on Greenhouse. CPO Gab Menachem arrived April 14. Wave launched June 10. New CPO, major product launch, design leadership posting. That's the build-the-org-around-the-new-vision sequence.
Why it matters: Menachem's public framing positions AI as the system, not a layer. Amplitude's job, as he describes it, is closing the loop between building, shipping, and feeding signal back. He hasn't said anything design-specific publicly. That's the preparation cost: you have to construct the design argument for him. The signal itself is cleaner than Vanta's. The buyer is identifiable. The mandate is fresh. Design reports to him per Amplitude's announcement. But the message takes more work to write well.
Confidence: High. New CPO with design in scope, fresh posting, product launch creating urgency.
Window: Menachem is at day 96 of his CPO tenure. The first-90-day window has technically closed. But posting a design leadership role this early in tenure means he's still assembling. The posting freshness is the operative clock. Act by day 20.
Move:
(a) Who: Gab Menachem, CPO. Design reports to him. His stated priority: closing the loop between building, shipping, user interaction, and feeding signal back into the product so the next thing can be built better.
(b) Warm path: Cold. Check for shared connections through Amplitude's investor network.
(c) Opening message (cold, to Menachem):
"Gab — your framing of Amplitude's work as closing the loop between building, shipping, and feeding signal back into the product is the design problem I've been solving at Agentic Labs, where I built trust and feedback architectures for three agent products (Brand Pulse, Retail Velocity, Carrier IQ — all live at junochen.com). I'm currently Head of Product at TinyFish, an enterprise web agent platform, working through the exact loop-closing challenge you described: agent traces, attribution, and continuous signal feedback in production. Amplitude's Head of Product Design role looks like the right place to apply this. Worth a conversation?"
(d) What not to say: Don't lead with Alibaba. Enterprise B2B platform scale is relevant support if he asks, but Menachem's public framing is AI-native product intelligence. Let him pull the Alibaba thread. Don't push it as the opener.
Act Soon
Maven — VP of Design (day 33)
What changed: Posted June 16. CPO Jason Lee has been at Maven since 2021. No new-executive urgency window driving the timeline. His public framing centers patient engagement and distrust in healthcare systems. That maps cleanly to your trust and high-stakes build pillars.
Confidence: Moderate. Direct posting, tenured buyer. But day 33 means a shortlist is likely forming.
Window: Past day 40 this drops to Probe. That gives you until roughly Friday, July 25. If you have bandwidth after Vanta and Amplitude, Maven gets your Friday.
Move:
(a) Who: Jason Lee, Chief Product & Operating Officer. Maven leadership page confirms title. Five-year tenure. He told Maven's blog the biggest healthcare product problem is lack of patient engagement driven by inconvenience, expense, and distrust.
(b) Warm path: Cold.
(c) Opening message (cold, to Lee):
"Jason — the patient engagement problem you've described at Maven is a trust design problem, and that's the specific intersection I've spent my career building in. At Thermo Fisher I designed mySupply for pharma supply chains ($20M+ margin, 100% partner adoption), and at the American Red Cross I consolidated six systems into one national platform that disbursed $847K in disaster relief. I published a trust framework for agentic systems in June that applies directly to healthcare. Maven's VP of Design role is the kind of high-stakes, trust-first design challenge I want next. Would a brief conversation make sense?"
(d) What not to say: Don't lead with AI or agentic framing. Lee's public language is about patient trust and engagement, not AI product loops. The Trust essay is relevant support. Thermo Fisher's pharma proof is the opener.
Verify Before Investing
Ramp — Director, Product Design (day 41)
Day 41 crosses the line. Anything past 35 days without a repost needs verification before you invest tailoring time. The search does show signs of life. Liam Bolton posted about the role roughly two weeks ago. Design recruiter Gianna Auer engaged with that post. 200+ applicants on LinkedIn. Signs of life are not confirmation.
Updated verb: Probe. Do not build a full application package. Send a brief verification message through Bolton or Auer, then escalate to Act with the design buyer if confirmed. NYC in-person requirement stands.
Probe message (to Bolton):
"Liam — saw your post about the Director of Product Design search. Is the role still actively interviewing? I lead product at TinyFish (enterprise web agents) and have a background in agentic AI design and enterprise-scale trust systems that maps well. Happy to share more if the timing is right."
Watch
Suno — Head of Product Design posting died past 80 days. No repost. The company is active in creator tools and music AI, but no fresh design leadership signal. Watch for a new posting or a public design-hiring post from leadership. If either surfaces, flag for a Battlecard.
Salesforce — The only Director+ design posting is a Director, Experience Design - Keynote Demos role from June 9. Strategic and agentic but demo-centered. Not a product design leadership mandate. Harvest language from their AI-related product marketing and design blog for vocabulary calibration. No outreach action. Escalation trigger: a Director+ product design posting, a CDO hire, or a public design org restructuring signal.
Deprioritize
Headway — Design Director, Provider Experience: Remove. Gone from Headway's careers page and the Ashby feed. LinkedIn aggregators still show it. That's lag. Three months ago, Jake Poses announced Roland Tiangco as Director of Provider Product Design leading end-to-end provider experience. Same scope. This role is filled. Remove from active queue. Monitor for the next design leadership opening.
Rubrik: Retire. Title conflict plus posting age. The posted role's scope doesn't match the leadership level implied by the title. Remove. Revisit only if a clean Head of Design or VP Design posting surfaces.
Vanta today. Amplitude by Wednesday. Maven by Friday if you have bandwidth. Ramp gets a verification ping, not a full package. Everything else holds.
- Brex Staff Designer, AI: Brex's Staff Product Designer, AI posting describes users delegating work to AI, supervising it in flight, and reviewing output in an intelligent finance platform — pure supervision-burden language worth harvesting even though the title is below Director level.
- Atlassian's Rovo IC track: Atlassian posted a Principal Product Designer, AI (Mobile) role in San Francisco focused on flagship AI agent experiences for Rovo, which is a Director-equivalent IC track that maps directly to Agentic Labs proof.
- Abridge clinical AI signals: Abridge's Ashby feed shows a Staff Mixed Methods Researcher posted July 15 alongside product/evals hiring, but no product design leadership role yet — worth watching for the first Director+ posting as clinical AI trust design matures there.
- Suno's rights-risk pressure: Pitchfork reported that hacked data exposed details suggesting Suno trained on scraped songs from YouTube, Deezer, and Genius — if a fresh design leadership posting surfaces, governance and creator-trust framing becomes the outreach angle, not product aesthetics.
