A hiring manager arrives at this teaser with ten tabs open. They will read the headline, scan whatever structured data is visible without scrolling, and decide whether to keep going or close the tab. Here is what they encounter, and roughly when:
- Seconds 1–5. The eyebrow (
Alibaba.com · B2B Platform Redesign · 2024) and headline (The signals before anyone touched a screen.) register. Company name lands. The headline tells them nothing about what the case is about. - Seconds 5–10. The right rail resolves. Six rows: Company, Project, Role, Team, Scale (
$50B+ GMV · 200K+ suppliers · 25M+ desktop sessions), Outcome (+7% DAU · +20% transactions · +2.2pt NPS · −47% security concerns). The buyer now has the numbers. This rail is doing the page's job better than anything else on it. - Seconds 10–15. Body copy delivers the 25%/80% diagnostic: desktop was 25% of traffic but 80% of transaction value. The platform was designed for consumer browsers while procurement users ran companies through it. The mandate narrative compresses: named the gap, built the research case, secured executive buy-in, redesigned it.
- Seconds 15–25. Scrolling begins. Three sprint sections with before/after mockups. The buyer sees design judgment applied to named problems.
- Seconds 25–45. The component rack. The narrative shifts underneath them. More on this below.
The right rail is the strongest element on the page. Four quantified outcomes, all connecting design work to business movement rather than design-process outputs. A CPO scanning this rail gets what they need: evidence that design moved numbers they care about. The one notable absence is the +47% new visitors from search number, which would strengthen the search-sprint story. Worth adding if the layout accommodates a fifth outcome row. Not a blocker.
The headline is where the scan breaks.

The right rail lands. The body copy lands. The headline doesn't.
"The signals before anyone touched a screen" is a magazine feature opener. It rewards a reader who already knows what the case is about. A hiring manager who doesn't know yet walks away with atmosphere instead of information. The single largest text element on the first screen is doing editorial work when it should be doing briefing work.
Your closing section already wrote the fix: "I named the gap. Secured the mandate. Redesigned the platform." That language is precise, active, leadership-forward. It's buried at the bottom of the page.
One thing the teaser does well, and should not lose: the trust story stands without external support. The 25%/80% diagnostic names the structural gap. The sprint diagnostics quantify trust failures (47% of buyers citing security fears, 73% of sessions ending without engagement). The right rail closes with outcomes. A buyer who has never read the trust essay still walks away understanding that this was a case about making a $50B platform trustworthy enough for procurement-scale commitment. That independence is correct. Preserve it through any headline change.
Recommendation: Replace the headline. Pull the closing section's energy to the top:
"Named the trust gap in a $50B+ procurement platform. Secured the mandate. Redesigned it."
Keep the 25%/80% diagnostic in the body. It's doing real work.
Length and Density
Finding (confirmed on live page): Six sections. Three sprint sections (Homepage, Search, PDP) carry diagnostic text and browser mockups, roughly 500–650 characters each. The UI Components section carries approximately 5,222 characters of visible text: navigation specs, search bar modes, filter bars, card definitions, PDP components, onboarding flows, trust badges, button styles, color tokens, type scale, spacing scale, border-radius values.
The component rack is longer than all three sprint sections combined. That ratio tells you everything.
A hiring manager moves through the hero (good), three sprint sections with before/after mockups (good), and then hits a wall of component specifications that reads like a design-system handoff document. The narrative thread snaps. The buyer shifts from evaluating a design leader to evaluating a component library. That shift happens at exactly the moment the page should be closing toward the full-case CTA.
The component rack signals craft depth. It has value. It has no value here. A VP of Design evaluating craft bar will want this material in the full case, after they've already decided the leadership story merits investigation. On the teaser surface, the component rack competes with the leadership narrative and wins by sheer volume. Volume is not the kind of winning you want.
Move the entire UI Components section to the full case study. Replace it on the teaser with a single row: a tight strip of 4–6 component thumbnails. This cuts the page's content volume roughly in half and keeps the buyer inside the leadership narrative all the way to the closing CTA.
Recommendation: Label the strip something like Component system: 40+ elements across navigation, search, cards, PDP, and onboarding. Enough to signal the system exists without requiring the buyer to evaluate it. Link the strip to the full case's component section if the architecture supports defined anchors.
Craft Signal
Finding (confirmed on live page): Each sprint section shows three browser mockups: legacy state, redesigned variant A, redesigned variant B. Nine total across three sprints. Sprint diagnostics carry quantified problem statements: "37-point sign-in gap below the app fold." "73% of sessions ended without engagement." "47% of buyers cited security fears at the point of payment."
Craft is demonstrated, not described. The before/after pattern lets a buyer see design judgment without reading a word. The diagnostics frame the mockups as solutions to named problems rather than aesthetic exercises. Both work.
One gap. The mockups don't carry visible annotations naming the design decisions. A buyer sees the output but not the reasoning. For a 30-second scan this is acceptable; the teaser's job is to generate enough confidence to request the full case, not to prove every decision. But a single callout per mockup pair ("Trade Assurance moved above fold" on the PDP redesign, for instance) would let the buyer register judgment, not just result. Low effort, moderate payoff.
Recommendation: Add one visible annotation per sprint's redesigned mockup naming the key design decision. Keep it to a phrase. Can wait.
The CTA
Finding (confirmed on live page): Two CTAs reading Request the full case study, one in the hero and one in the closing section. Both link directly to cs-01-alibaba.html. No form, no password field, no email gate. Top nav includes a separate mailto link not labeled as the request mechanism.
I did not follow the CTA link to verify whether the full case is publicly accessible or gated. The finding below is based on the teaser's own language and an earlier audit that found the site's access controls shipped full HTML before client-side gating ran.
The word "request" implies a gate. If the link delivers direct access, the language overpromises friction that doesn't exist. If the full case is gated but the gate ships the HTML anyway, "request" performs a trust boundary that doesn't function. Either way, a trust-calibration error on a case study about trust calibration. Fix the mismatch. Verify the link behavior and match the CTA to whatever actually happens.
CTA placement is correct. Two is right. A sticky CTA would be overkill for a page this focused.
Recommendation: If the full case is publicly accessible, change to View the full case study →. If gated with a functioning mechanism, change to Request access to the full case study and make the gate real. Do not use "request" for a direct link.
Agentic Vision Assessment
Finding (confirmed on live page): No distinct agentic sourcing vision section. The words "agentic," "autonomous," "AI-assisted," and "vision" do not appear in visible copy. The only AI-adjacent language lives inside the component rack: an "AI Mode" search tab and a natural-language search input (I need 500 premium humidifiers for US retail).
The case for adding it is real. It would tell a buyer that you think beyond shipped work, that you have a point of view on where procurement design goes when agents handle sourcing and humans handle commitment decisions. That's currency right now. Most companies hiring design leaders are trying to figure out what AI-native product design leadership looks like, and a candidate who demonstrates that thinking stands apart.
But the teaser's job is narrower. It proves enterprise design leadership at scale using the trust-gap diagnosis as the hook. The agentic vision is a second thesis. Introducing it before the first one has fully landed splits the buyer's attention at the moment you need them reaching for the CTA. The full case's closing is where the vision earns its weight, after the leadership story has already closed.
Recommendation: Do not add the agentic vision to the teaser. If you adopt the thumbnail strip to replace the component rack, the AI Mode tab could be one of the 4–6 thumbnails. A quiet signal without a narrative digression.
Priority-Ranked Action List
- Move the UI Components section to the full case. Replace with a thumbnail strip. This single change transforms the teaser from a hybrid document into an actual teaser. Do this first.
- Replace the hero headline. Swap the editorial headline for mandate-forward language that names the leadership action at scale. Your closing section already wrote it for you.
- Resolve the CTA language. Follow the link, determine what actually happens, match the word to the mechanism. Small fix, real trust signal.
- Add one annotation per sprint mockup. Name the design decision, not just the output. Low effort, moderate signal improvement. Can wait.

The bones are right. The right rail with its four outcome metrics, the sprint structure, the diagnostic specificity, the before/after mockups, the closing section's mandate language, the metadata. The trust story stands independently. Cut the component rack, sharpen the headline, fix the CTA language. The buyer gets from Watch to Verify in 30 seconds instead of getting lost in a token spec at second 45.
