MIL-PRF-32565 fixes everything. Form factor: 6T per STANAG 4015. Voltage: nominal 24V. Application: SLI and auxiliary electronics for ground vehicles, including deep-cycle and silent-watch. The spec then classifies batteries into three types gated not by capacity alone but by maximum allowable Hazard Severity Level under SAE J2464 abuse tests — overcharge and nail penetration. Type 1 permits HSL 4. Types 2 and 3 permit HSL 6. This converts J2464 from a characterization framework into a pass/fail gate, and the conversion is deliberate: the spec authors made the abuse response the type definition.
The operating envelope runs −46°C to 71°C, with storage to −54°C/88°C and environmental qualification against MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F. CAN bus reporting per SAE J1939 is mandatory. The FAT gate resets on any change in design, material, process, or facility.
Every DVP row has a source, and that is what "settled" means. As of early 2025, no Li-ion 6T battery had achieved QPL-32565 listing. The spec is fully written and the lane is empty, which tells you something about the distance between a complete qualification framework and a qualified product. When you measure your application's gap, measure it against a lane where the gap is only execution.
