On Signal's CISO discovery card tells an account executive how to read a buyer's pauses and deflections in real time, then tells them when to redirect from the CISO to an IT director. TinyFish's retry logic article explains why replaying a failed AI agent action can't guarantee the agent will choose the same tools or sequence on the second attempt. One is a card you open while dialing. The other is an essay that changes how you think about a problem you haven't encountered yet. They share a platform and almost nothing else about how they create dependency or how they break.
Anchor is evaluating these publications against a single quality standard. That is a category error. The portfolio contains publications whose readers act on fundamentally different temporal rhythms, and those rhythms determine what "fresh" means, what errors cost, and how high dependency can reach. Treating them uniformly misallocates attention in every direction: over-investing in numeric precision where it doesn't drive dependency, tolerating staleness where it destroys trust.
Three clocks
The pattern, stated plainly: when Anchor publications serve readers who act on different temporal rhythms, they produce dependency through different mechanisms, because the reader's relationship to time determines what the publication must get right.
Workflow possession is the fastest clock. On Signal organizes content as situation cards, competitor cards, and discovery questions built for the minutes before a sales call. The "Buyer Drops MCP" card opens with a ten-second explanation, splits the buyer into exploring versus building, and tells the AE when to hand off to a sales engineer for token exchange details. The Microsoft Entra ID card starts from the recognition cue that buyers assume their existing Microsoft license already covers agent governance, concedes where Microsoft is genuinely strong, and lists landmines to avoid. The dependency mechanism is presence at the moment of action. If the card is on screen when the call starts, it shapes the conversation. If it isn't, the AE improvises. The freshness standard is dictated by the competitive landscape: a BeyondTrust competitor card that doesn't reflect a feature shipped last month gives the AE false confidence. That's worse than having no card.
The structural analogue is Bloomberg Terminal's integration into trading workflows. Bloomberg won because it was open at the moment of the trade, embedded in the decision rather than competing on data quality alone. On Signal's dependency ceiling lives in the same place: it can only possess the workflow if the AE actually pulls the card up.
Event-clock synchronization is the middle clock. The Hysteresis tracks defense procurement deadlines and battery supply-chain policy gates for Coreshell, a company developing silicon-rich battery anodes (the electrode component that determines how much energy a battery stores per unit weight). Clear Path tracks clinical trial milestones and FDA regulatory status for Elixir Medical, whose DynamX coronary stent is approved in Europe but investigational in the U.S. Both publications derive value from being synchronized with an external timeline the reader cannot afford to miss. The Hysteresis's "The Mandate Gap" frames its analysis around the DFARS battery prohibition barring certain foreign-sourced battery components from U.S. defense procurement. Clear Path's DynamX evidence article centers the INFINITY-SWEDEHEART trial's landmark results, comparing target lesion failure rates between DynamX and Medtronic's Resolute Onyx stent.
Here the dependency mechanism is calibration against a clock the reader is already watching. The deadline creates the urgency. The publication earns its place by interpreting what the deadline means for the reader's specific decisions. Freshness is binary relative to the event: synchronized or stale.
Ambient authority is the slowest clock. TinyFish's snapshot architecture piece compares two modes of browser automation not to help a developer decide something today but to reshape how they think about where browser state should live. Docket's "Who Heat Actually Kills" uses NYC Health Department data to reframe heat death as indoor, cumulative, and concentrated on ordinary hot days rather than extreme events. Neither piece is organized around a deadline or a call. Both install a mental model the reader will carry into future decisions they haven't scheduled yet.
Dependency works differently at this speed: the publication shapes the frame before the question arrives. The freshness standard is the slowest of the three. An ambient-authority piece published three months ago can still be doing its work if no better frame has displaced it. The failure mode is silent displacement: if a competitor's blog or an industry source establishes a more compelling frame, the ambient authority drains without anyone noticing. And this reveals the ceiling. Even when ambient authority is working perfectly, it can shape the default frame but cannot prevent the reader from encountering a better one. The reader isn't returning to the publication at a predictable moment the way an AE returns to a competitor card before a call. There is no structural forcing function. The dependency is real but porous in a way the other two clocks are not.
These are the three dependency clocks. The name matters because it gives you a sorting mechanism for decisions you're currently making uniformly: what to measure, what to invest in, and what failure to watch for.
Error tolerance proves the clocks are real
The Hysteresis provides the cleanest test. "The Mandate Gap" states that the P550 drone contract value "appears as $132 million" in AeroVironment's investor disclosure and links directly to that disclosure. The linked AeroVironment release says the contract has an initial base value of $13.2 million with options totaling $42 million. The article also references "Section 842" and a "January 1, 2028" deadline, while the statute text places the battery prohibition at Section 154 with an October 1, 2027 effective date. These are two different kinds of error. The dollar figure is off by a factor of ten against a linked source the reader can check. The section number is wrong against the statute itself, verifiable in seconds, and arguably worse: it undermines the publication's core claim to be the reader's reliable interface with the regulatory clock. For an event-clock publication, both are structural failures, not editorial blemishes.
Run the same test on ambient authority. TinyFish's snapshot article reports that Playwright's MCP mode uses roughly 114,000 tokens per browser automation task versus roughly 27,000 in CLI mode. If those numbers were off by 30%, the architectural argument still holds. The point is that MCP's token cost is structurally higher because snapshots stream into the context window rather than writing to disk. The reader absorbs the frame, not the figure. Docket's heat article could misstate the percentage of heat deaths on ordinary hot days and still succeed at reframing where climate risk actually concentrates.
The cost of error scales with how directly the reader will cite the specific claim in a consequential moment. Event-clock readers cite specific figures in rooms where they'll be checked. Ambient-authority readers carry away the frame and forget the number.
The stalled clock
Clear Path tests the event-clock model from the other direction. It published one issue in January 2026 and has not published since. The regulatory clock hasn't moved: DynamX remains investigational and unapproved per ClinicalTrials.gov. But the evidence clock has. PubMed indexes multiple 2026 DynamX publications after the issue date, including a DYNAMITE Study article from May 2026 and a JAHA bioadaptor review from April.
Clear Path is synchronized with the slow regulatory clock but desynchronized from the faster evidence clock. For a physician evaluating whether to watch DynamX or ignore it, the evidence clock is the one that matters between regulatory milestones.
A workflow-possession publication that goes silent for five months is simply absent from the workflow. An ambient-authority publication that goes silent for five months may still be shaping the frame. TinyFish's snapshot architecture piece could still be determining how a developer thinks about browser state right now, because the domain is moving fast (Playwright MCP has 34,305 GitHub stars and pushed code as recently as June 24) but no competing source has published a more compelling architectural frame. An event-clock publication that goes silent for five months is making a claim about the world: nothing has changed. If something has changed, the silence is misinformation by omission.
What each clock requires
Anchor needs three different evaluation frameworks, not one quality standard applied uniformly.

The distinctions in that table carry operational weight. Applying the event-clock standard to an ambient-authority publication overinvests in numeric precision that doesn't drive dependency. Applying the ambient-authority standard to an event-clock publication tolerates errors that destroy trust in the room where the claim gets cited.
The confirming signal for this framework: failures that sort by clock type rather than by content quality. An Okta AE citing an outdated competitor claim from On Signal would be a workflow-possession failure. A Coreshell strategist who discovers the figure conflict in The Hysteresis before Anchor does would be an event-clock failure. A TinyFish developer whose architectural assumptions were shaped by a competitor's blog, because it published a sharper frame than the one Anchor built, would be an ambient-authority failure. If these require different fixes, the clocks are real.
