A sweep of all named targets for recent VP Product, VP Design, CPO, or founding executive hires within the last 90 days. Sources checked: company leadership pages, public executive profiles, blog bylines, design community directories across Anthropic, OpenAI, Brex, Ramp, Gusto, Headway, Abridge, Amplitude, Salesforce, Atlassian, Adobe, Stripe, Suno, Slack, and Midjourney. Capital One already has a completed battlecard. Salesforce appears here through its subsidiary Slack, which is the active design-leadership signal.
Across fourteen effective targets: two confirmed routes with a named buyer and a live role, one probe where a new executive may create a role, five holds with a design executive in place but no role posted, four watches where the buyer hasn't surfaced yet, and two structurally blocked. Issue #9 identified buyer verification as the bottleneck. This sweep confirms it empirically. The constraint at every stalled target is the same: who is the buyer, have they raised their hand, and can you reach them.

Slack. Michael Lenahan posted the VP Product Design role himself, said "you'll report to me," described the design problem (interaction models where agents act as coworkers), and the Salesforce listing remains live as of September 12. He posted September 2, the week heading into Labor Day. A hiring manager who posts a role before a holiday weekend is filling a seat, not testing the market. The role, the buyer, the problem language, and the contact path are all confirmed and public. No other target in the portfolio has all four resolved simultaneously.
Capital One. Daniela Jorge (SVP, Chief Design Officer) is the confirmed buyer for the Director, Product Design — AI in Experience Design role. The battlecard is built. If you haven't sent, send.
These are your only two confirmed routes. Sequence accordingly.
Probe this week
Atlassian. Ken Exner started as CPO, Enterprise & Emerging on August 4 — 39 days in seat. His public framing:
"humans and AI agents working together, grounded in shared context"
That language maps to your Trust essay closely enough to quote back. But Exner hasn't posted about hiring a design leader, and Atlassian's CDO Charlie Sutton was promoted roughly 11 months ago. The unresolved question: does Exner's enterprise product org include a design leadership hire, or does design stay under Sutton's structure? One LinkedIn DM to Exner referencing his "shared context" framing would resolve this. Send it to surface whether a role exists — not to pitch yourself. Best route: cold LinkedIn DM — no public email or warm path located.
Hold until a trigger appears
Five targets have a named executive who plausibly owns design hiring. None has posted or signaled a specific open role.
- Ramp — Diego Zaks (VP Design, early employee, long-tenured), Geoff Charles (CPO, promoted January 2025). No design leadership hire signaled. Route: LinkedIn DM to Zaks.
- Gusto — Amy Thibodeau (CDO, confirmed active as of September 2). No design leadership posting surfaced. Route: LinkedIn DM to Thibodeau.
- Brex — Matt Bango (CDO since 2024, roughly 2 years in seat; design reports to the CEO). No posted role. Route: LinkedIn DM to Bango.
- Amplitude — Gab Menachem (CPO since April 2026, roughly 5 months in seat, design under his remit). No design leadership hire since. Route: LinkedIn DM to Menachem.
- Adobe — Scott Belsky (VP, Design and Emerging Products, long-tenured). No new design executive surfaced. Route: LinkedIn DM to Belsky, though Adobe's scale means a recruiter screen is the more likely entry.
The logic at all five is the same. A cold message to an established executive about a role that may not exist burns the first impression for no return. Wait for a posting or a public signal that creates something specific to respond to.
Watch for the successor
Four targets either lost their design leader recently, have no public design leadership signal, or have a design org too opaque to route into. None has announced a hire or posted a design leadership role.
Anthropic. Jenny Wen left for Cursor as Head of Design. No successor publicly named. Ami Vora (CPO, joined late 2025) is the most likely hiring owner when the role posts. The departure creates a hiring need, but there is no route until the company acts. Monitor Anthropic's careers page and Vora's public activity weekly.
Narrative fit: The highest-value target in the portfolio. When it posts, lead with the forward-looking artifacts — Human-Agent System Design and Agent Infrastructure as UX map directly to Anthropic's product surface. The Trust essay is the conceptual hook: Anthropic's product challenge is calibrating human oversight of increasingly capable agents, which is the trust ladder (Watch → Verify → Delegate) applied at the frontier. Support with Agentic Labs as production proof and TinyFish as technical currency. The competitive field will be severe — AI-native candidates from well-funded startups will have brand pedigree. What they almost certainly won't have is published frontier design thinking at this depth. Your forward-looking artifacts are the differentiator. Have the outreach message drafted to Vora before the posting appears. When it goes live, send within 48 hours.
Headway. Ellen Dong left in late August for Hera. Jake Poses (VP Product, arrived March 2025, roughly 18 months in seat) is the most senior product-adjacent leader visible. No design successor announced. Route when trigger fires: LinkedIn DM to Poses.
Narrative fit: Headway operates in mental health — regulated, high-stakes, compliance-first. Lead with Thermo Fisher (regulated 0→1, pharma partners, 100% adoption) and Red Cross (national deployment, 6 systems → 1). The Trust essay adds AI fluency for a company that will increasingly face questions about agent-assisted care coordination. Competing candidates from healthcare design backgrounds will have domain familiarity but likely lack the 0→1 speed proof and AI-native credibility.
OpenAI. Ian Silber was publicly identified as Head of Design in a June design-community post, but OpenAI has not published a design leadership page, and the specific hiring manager for any of the nine current Product Design openings — including Identity, Codex, and Design Systems — remains unknown. Route when a role-specific buyer surfaces: cold LinkedIn DM to Silber with a redirection objective, not an assumed interview request.
Abridge. No qualifying executive arrival surfaced in the sweep. Abridge's design leadership structure is not publicly visible through the sources checked. No posted design leadership role located. Route: unknown until a buyer surfaces. Monitor careers page.
Structurally blocked
Stripe (Risk). The Staff Product Designer, Risk role lists London and Dublin only. Stripe's Connect Risk posting separately names New York, Seattle, South San Francisco, and remote US. The absence of US locations on the Staff posting is deliberate — Stripe uses explicit location language when US placement is available. Unless you're willing to relocate, this gate is closed before routing matters. Watch for a US-located Risk design posting.
Suno. The Head of Product Design posting is gone. Suno's careers page lists Senior/Staff Product Designer but not Head. The LinkedIn job ID redirects to expired results. The role filled, was pulled, or was absorbed into the Senior/Staff scope. If a Head-level posting reappears, move on it. The Senior/Staff posting is a different role with a different mandate.
Monday morning
Send Slack on Monday. Probe Exner at Atlassian the same week. Have the Anthropic outreach drafted and waiting. Everything else waits for a trigger you can name.
- Slack Code shipped agent collaboration: Slack's product blog details how agent work now happens in shared channels with inspection, review, redirection, and archived audit history — use this language in your Lenahan outreach as the specific product problem your Trust framework addresses.
- Gusto's design-to-builder transformation: Gusto published a detailed account of converting its design org from Figma deliverables to code-based building within one quarter, including internal resistance and an MCP-connected design system — relevant if Thibodeau posts a role tied to that shift.
- OpenAI Financial Services launched September 10: The ChatGPT for Financial Services announcement shaped with Morgan Stanley and Evercore includes granular citations, source inspection, and governance controls — adjacent product context for the Identity role if a buyer surfaces.
- Suno v6 adds granular creator control: The September 9 launch introduced partial editing, multi-source composition, and distinct model variants for precision versus exploration — watch whether this product complexity triggers a design leadership repost.
