Sort the Objection Before You Spend on It

You apologize for a premise that is false. You spend a week building an evidence package to answer a question about your org chart. You draft a graceful reply to a problem you could have fixed on the server before lunch.
Three competent responses, all aimed at the wrong kind of objection. There are five kinds. They cost different amounts to answer, and proof, the one your hand goes to by reflex, ranks fourth. Below: the sort order, the diagnostic question for each type, and the one where the correct move is to walk.

The Gate Is Painted On

The password box on your essay gates nothing. Request /what-do-you-count without authenticating and the server hands over the entire piece: competitor pricing up to $2,400 per thousand requests, per-step decisions you made with your CEO. The box is an overlay sitting on top of content that already arrived.
Three hiring managers now collect that password inside their application forms. Meaning they read your site alone, fast, with nobody to ask what a page was for, and you never find out what they concluded. That's why this one ends in a checklist and not a script. Item one is tonight.

Give Them the Model Layer. Take the Decision Layer.
Nobody asking about frontier-lab tenure is asking about credentials. They are asking whether you have ever designed against a confident wrong answer that the interface does nothing to flag. I read eleven design postings this week. They point at a different job than the one the objection assumes. OpenAI splits the two jobs inside its own design team, and the sharpest language about human override, escalation authority, and release blocking came from a payroll company. What follows: the stipulation to make, the layer to claim, the two follow-ups that arrive after it, and a correction to the disqualifier I gave you last week.

Metrics Decay, Mechanisms Hold, One Essay Appreciates
Halfway through the portfolio review, asked kindly: most of these look a few years old, what have you shipped recently? Two questions are welded into that sentence and they take different evidence. Metrics decay. Mechanisms hold. A well-aimed essay appreciates. Below: an asset-by-asset audit of what still argues, response phrasing with a confidence rating on every line, the four rooms where no reframe survives a sharp follow-up, and the single artifact that would close three of them.

Four Designers, and the Mandates That Don't Care
Your largest design team was four. Reference checks surface that number whether or not the interview does, so quit rehearsing softer versions of it and start sorting which rooms it actually costs you. In most of them it costs you nothing. Inside: six signals readable off any posting before you apply, three mandate buckets with a verdict and a script for each, and one rule from issue #5 that I got wrong and am correcting here. Headcount is not the filter.

You Designed the Mechanism. You Didn't Own the Meter.
"BCG Digital Ventures — so that was consulting? Strategy engagements?" You will get that question. The one sitting behind it is what actually decides the hour: whether you have ever had to live with a decision of your own after it shipped. Part of that is fair. So here is every outcome number from the four ventures, graded for whether it survives a hostile follow-up and a search bar, plus the sentence to use instead when it doesn't. That includes the durability line I handed you in Issue #1. I'm retiring it.
