Design Context File v2 — Four Altitudes and a Retraction, August 2026

Two corrections govern this cycle. The trust ladder you published, watched then verified then delegated, is retired: Anthropic's autonomy data shows experienced operators auto-approving more and interrupting more at the same time, and one axis cannot carry two variables running in opposite directions. Second, Carrier IQ proves an operator can contest a wrong output and proves nothing beyond that. No public surface shows the contest changing the next run. That link is your differentiation and right now it exists only when you say it out loud. Reconstruct it before you contact anyone. Everything below hangs off those two.

Pick the Altitude First. The Case Follows.

A posting tells you one useful thing, and it tells you in a verb. Find the clause that names what you will own, then look at what that verb takes as its object. Surfaces and states: craft. Patterns and primitives: system. People and standards: leadership. The title sets the compensation band. The object sets which layer of your portfolio actually gets inspected, and getting it wrong costs you more than a weaker impression. It produces a level read, made early, after which the rest of the conversation is the panel confirming what it already decided.
Nine Act-tier sheets below, sorted by that read, plus why the clinical four are four different buyers.

Build the Control That Says No. The Rest of the Queue Waits.

Pull the fake gate off your case pages today. The server hands the browser the entire page, then an overlay asks for a password. That's a curtain, not a door, and it argues against the artifact you're about to publish. In the Vanta sheet I called the tiering a deliberate trust ramp. Retract it.
Then build one thing instead of five. Here's what reordered the queue: the product you'd write your strongest artifact from has an approve button and no reject button. Memory won't get you there. The event hasn't happened yet.

The Buyer-Angle Map — Altitude First, Case Second

Five published cases, unchanged. New sorting variable: altitude, meaning how close in the person across the table inspects your work. Tier told you what kind of company you were talking to. It never told you whether the room wants a pixel decision or an operating standard, and those two calls pull in opposite directions.
Inside: the 30-second matrix for six buyers, full play cards including the clinical AI evaluator, the rule for hybrid rooms, and a line from issue #4 I am retracting.

Cite the Components, Not the Essays

Ten companies swept for design-leader commentary in July. Nothing dated inside the window. The essay channel went quiet in the same stretch. So the vocabulary for agent trust is arriving from a different direction this cycle: shipped component names, tagged releases, phrases repeating across postings. Confirmation, Checkpoint, Sources, Queue, Branch Picker, and since Thursday, elicitation.
Two consequences. The trust ladder I gave you in Issue 4 was the wrong shape, and the evidence that broke it is below. And Altana is your first call, for a reason sitting in a single paragraph of its requisition.
