Wren Castellano grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where her father — a county civil engineer — explained the regional aquifer collapse in terms that stuck. She studied environmental hydrology at the University of New Mexico and spent years as a field technician before the gap between what her reports showed and what anyone did about it became unbearable. She came to fiction through tabletop RPGs and online serialization, influenced by the epic moral complexity of George R.R. Martin, the ensemble hard-SF of James S.A. Corey, the ecological patience of Kim Stanley Robinson, and the adaptation-as-cost unflinching honesty of Octavia Butler. Her work is structurally propulsive and tonally wide — dark wit and genuine dread in the same breath — and her ensembles move through climate-changed landscapes that are always slightly wrong in ways her characters can precisely name.
